1)
Did any of GN who are experienced at riding, notice the black horse getting nervous and skittish?
It seemed like quite a long time for the rider to cope with.
Any ideas what caused that to happen?
All the other horses and riders did a good job of not letting it knock the momentum. Well done them.

2)
Did anyone find out why the King's carriage was early and William's and Kate's late?

3)
Close up coverage of the King showed him sounding off to Camilla in the coach.
His head was aggressively nodding. I should think his neck will be aching today with that action and the weight of the crown.
I'm nosy enough to hope some bright spark of a lip reader will tell us what he was saying!grin

4)
What's the difference if any, between a coach and carriage?

5)
Why did the BBC charge sky and gbnews for footage, when foreign tv news stations transmitted the Coronation for free?

6)
For a split second I felt sorry for Harry, coping with the fall out of his own actions.
Judging by the peoples faces around Harry outside the Abby, he was particularly sharp with Eugenie at one point. Beatrice looked so alarmed at the interchange, I thought I saw the blood drain out of her face before my eyes.
Anyone else pay such forensic attention to minutiae as I did?grin

7)
I thought the no tiara idea was silly.
Pomp and ceremony was the order of the day.
People got around this, by wearing feathers and flowers and diamante anyway, and it didn't look as regal imv.
Loved to see Charlotte with her circlet.

8)
Lets talk hats. Some people had such big hats on.
Very, very inconsiderate of others sitting behind.
Pippa Middleton, Trudeau's wife, Queen Letizia (beautiful though it was), and largest of all Katie Perry's humongous offering.
Pippa Middleton's outfit did look wonderful though.
Best hat for this type of occasion worn by Princess Charlene of Monaco imv, who looked amazing.
But Top of the Pops was of course, Princess Anne.
That feather is the talking point around the world apparently.

9)
Sorry those who like her outfit, but Penny Mordant I think, should have worn a colour that reflected the clothing of the previous Lord President of the Privy Council.
Black and gold I think.
It wasn't her day to stand out from the crowd.
After all if wearing a uniform was good enough for the Princess Royal.....

10)
Back to Harry, I hope Jack Brooksbank phone was set to record, as Harry was in full swing inside the Abby. Animated, gesticulating, even gurning.
Whilst Jack Brooksbank apparantly took the trouble to obscure his face when answering, Harry seemed to take a lot of pleasure in being as noticeable as possible.

11) Did the pot holes in the road get filled in for this occasion?
I don't think the crown would stay on their heads if they had a road like the one I live on!

12)
Oh and last but not least, I adored the gorgeous voice of Pretty Yende.
Not so much the banana coloured dress, with it's outsized collar. Lacked dignity for the occasion, in my opinion.

And you? What quizzical tiny detail impressed you, or made you chuckle?

I'm not interested in who wore what or who sat next to who...BUT I'm interested to have spotted the wooden throne (that for some reason to me resembled a commode) had 'graffiti' initials carved on the back of it and I wondered how this could have happened. Anyone any idea?

Naughty choirboys!

Marydoll Mon 08-May-23 15:00:10

Bohemian, most of the graffiti on the back part of the Chair is the result of Westminster schoolboys and visitors carving their names in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Actually looking at Harry's suit, it is interesting that when (older) French people learnt English their version of "la plume de ma tante est dans le bureau de mon oncle" as an introductory phrase was "my tailor is rich". 😂😂😂

Penny Mordaunt is what my Father would have described as 'One very handsome woman'. The colour of her outfit was chosen it seems to pick up that of other garments worn by participants. However; I did feel the length was neither one thing or the other, and a longer choice would perhaps have been better. Maybe a little too much of the Mordaunt bosom was on show, and a softer design around the shoulders, with just a little more drape, would have been my choice. While I am nitpicking, shoes to match perhaps?
All that aside, she deserves much praise for looking so well groomed, dignified and elegant, and for holding that sword for so long! I gather she designed the outfit herself as there was no precedent for a woman in the role.

He didn't fight for all of them. One is for the Diamond Jubilee and one for the Platinum Jubilee.

Bizziebe Mon 08-May-23 14:24:12

True, just a bit incongruous. 👍

And how do you reconcile being a free agent and earning a living from advertising a fashion house - fair enough- with also wearing a bunch of medals given by the family you have left. As FannyCornforth says, "you're either in or you're out".

He fought for those medals unlike some who were wearing them.

If I was him I would have underscored my position or rather my perception of my role in the RF by not wearing the medals.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Harry may not look like a twerp but !

And, what about Tom Cruise? Don't really like him but it was a great moment!

This is on the wrong thread - sorry!

But it was still frightfully crumpled like he'd worn it on the plane over.

Bizziebe Mon 08-May-23 14:00:03

Oops sorry, I read it as Harry's outfit!

Bizziebe Mon 08-May-23 13:59:25

Quite the opposite Glorianny. There are rumours Harry and Meghan might have signed a deal with Dior. He wore a Dior suit to the trial and Meghan wore a Dior dress to the Queen's funeral. He might have been thinking, "Thank God I get all these clothes for free!"

Glorianny Mon 08-May-23 13:55:07

Funny how Harry can't win, if he looks serious he's miserable, if he looks happy he's "putting on a show". I think most young men would look at the outfit William was wearing and think "Thank God I don't have to dress like a twerp." Then happily escape back to a quiet family life.

Callistemon21 yes I know Disney copied from European monarchies like Louis XIV , known for its opulence and extravagance . I even went to a very interesting exhibition about it. However, I’m guessing more people are familiar with the Disney version of princesses than are acquainted with the history of European monarchies which makes the comparison valid - they did look a tad Disneyesque.

I meant I didn't understand welbeck's post.

Didn’t notice anything about Harry other than him being seated three rows back and looking fed up.
Didn’t notice anything between C and C in the coach either.
I did think Charles looked very old and rather miserable throughout tho.Maybe he was trying for dignity, but a small smile or gracious nod now and then would have looked better, not once he was crowned tho or it would have clattered to the ground.

Charles did look tired and anxious but I thought that he had aged a lot better than Camilla's first husband Andrew Parker Bowles.. Also as various guest speakers were talking about his wide variety of interests and skills it became very apparent to me that whilst he didn't have the initial glamour of APB he was probably always much more interesting as a person. I'll watch with interest how Charles and Camilla work together to bring environmental and social changes...and if they're allowed to.. I think the will is there.

Did anyone else think Harry was putting on a bit of a show of happy nonchalance ? Somehow he looked pretty isolated and the smiles and greetings were a bit of a cover up for how he was feeling. He didn’t come over as part of it at all. Funny photos afterwards of Anne’s plumage obliterating his face.

Perhaps it all hit home on such a momentous occasion that yes, he just isn’t part of it at all, anymore?

The Coronation just seemed to emphasise how far things have moved on, for both sides.

No going back.

Casdon Mon 08-May-23 13:21:05

Penny Mordaunt did look good, the secret is in the fitting, and her dress fitted her perfectly,

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 08-May-23 13:19:45

I thought so too but her hair was perfect.

Casdon Mon 08-May-23 13:19:44

Glorianny

Golly some of you watched in detail!
I've already said W&K over dressed and didn't like it. Like the best man and chief bridesmaid at a wedding . Maybe that's why they were late.
Anne, the girl who always wears jodhpurs and has to bring her horse.
Charles wearing the prinicpal boy's outfit from last year's panto.
Camilla- well I didn't get the big wedding so I'm going to get the dress in for this.

As for tiaras. It was purely sexist. All the male aristocracy could wear their ermine and robes, but the women couldn't dig out the family tiara?

I'd love to know how so many people know what Harry was doing when he was obscured by a feather

I didn’t watch it at all Glorianny. I think some of us just love clothes and seeing what people were wearing is so easy to do after the event because there are so many photographs online. That’s the best bit for me.
