1)
Did any of GN who are experienced at riding, notice the black horse getting nervous and skittish?
It seemed like quite a long time for the rider to cope with.
Any ideas what caused that to happen?
All the other horses and riders did a good job of not letting it knock the momentum. Well done them.

2)
Did anyone find out why the King's carriage was early and William's and Kate's late?

3)
Close up coverage of the King showed him sounding off to Camilla in the coach.
His head was aggressively nodding. I should think his neck will be aching today with that action and the weight of the crown.
I'm nosy enough to hope some bright spark of a lip reader will tell us what he was saying!grin

4)
What's the difference if any, between a coach and carriage?

5)
Why did the BBC charge sky and gbnews for footage, when foreign tv news stations transmitted the Coronation for free?

6)
For a split second I felt sorry for Harry, coping with the fall out of his own actions.
Judging by the peoples faces around Harry outside the Abby, he was particularly sharp with Eugenie at one point. Beatrice looked so alarmed at the interchange, I thought I saw the blood drain out of her face before my eyes.
Anyone else pay such forensic attention to minutiae as I did?grin

7)
I thought the no tiara idea was silly.
Pomp and ceremony was the order of the day.
People got around this, by wearing feathers and flowers and diamante anyway, and it didn't look as regal imv.
Loved to see Charlotte with her circlet.

8)
Lets talk hats. Some people had such big hats on.
Very, very inconsiderate of others sitting behind.
Pippa Middleton, Trudeau's wife, Queen Letizia (beautiful though it was), and largest of all Katie Perry's humongous offering.
Pippa Middleton's outfit did look wonderful though.
Best hat for this type of occasion worn by Princess Charlene of Monaco imv, who looked amazing.
But Top of the Pops was of course, Princess Anne.
That feather is the talking point around the world apparently.

9)
Sorry those who like her outfit, but Penny Mordant I think, should have worn a colour that reflected the clothing of the previous Lord President of the Privy Council.
Black and gold I think.
It wasn't her day to stand out from the crowd.
After all if wearing a uniform was good enough for the Princess Royal.....

10)
Back to Harry, I hope Jack Brooksbank phone was set to record, as Harry was in full swing inside the Abby. Animated, gesticulating, even gurning.
Whilst Jack Brooksbank apparantly took the trouble to obscure his face when answering, Harry seemed to take a lot of pleasure in being as noticeable as possible.

11) Did the pot holes in the road get filled in for this occasion?
I don't think the crown would stay on their heads if they had a road like the one I live on!

12)
Oh and last but not least, I adored the gorgeous voice of Pretty Yende.
Not so much the banana coloured dress, with it's outsized collar. Lacked dignity for the occasion, in my opinion.

And you? What quizzical tiny detail impressed you, or made you chuckle?

Star of the Coronation concert for me was William. He really does have presence.

Well, the staging of the concert last night was awesome. The drone displays are out of this world.

Long live the King 🤴 😊

I don’t think dressing like something from the napoleonic era or a Disney movie is progressive or forward thinking.

Different opinions, that’s fine.

Not that I read Hello, I didn't watch the Coronation, but was curious about the outfits.

Who would wear a Union Jack scarf with a red hat, blue dress and white jacket to the Coronation?

Well, Theresa Coffey would and did. She is a largeish lady, not noted for her fashion style. To me, she elected to wear red, white and blue and a Union Jack scarf because she wanted to appear patriotic and mindful of it being a very British occasion.

Must be difficult knowing that whatever she wore would be commented on and made fun of.

Well if you are going to have a coronation then lets do it right. A few women and ethnic minorities thrown in for the sake of it.

This was a but cut price - no posh frocks and tiaras. A bit like dress down friday at the office continuing into dress down saturday. Some of the guests look like they got their outfits in the Oxfam shop and just grabbed what was on the nearest rail.

Very disappointing.

It wasn’t (disappointing).

It was a Coronation for 2023, not 1953.

There would have been complaints and moans if everyone had been in coronets and tiaras. Shouts of ‘elitist’ and ‘out-of-touch’.

It heralded the start of a new progressive, forward thinking approach to our monarchy, and I thought the balance between tradition, pomp and modernity was well thought out.

God Save The King! 👑

First time ever, liked Cherrie Blairs outfit, it's pales into insignificance when she walks. '

Allsorts Mon 08-May-23 05:32:13

Camillas crown was so large compared to Charles. I much prefer the plain gold crowns but know that for the Coronation it's not an option.

Princess Anne looked like she was auditioning for Dick Whittington -Gold stick in waiting makes it even more hilarious. Catherine and Charlotte made it even Disneyesque plus the pumpkin coach. Therese Coffey did look like she’d raided the bin at the Oxfam shop , Penny Mordant’s dress was a Poundland advert! The Queen of Spain looked stunning and got too marks for elegance.

Did anyone else think Harry was putting on a bit of a show of happy nonchalance ? Somehow he looked pretty isolated and the smiles and greetings were a bit of a cover up for how he was feeling. He didn’t come over as part of it at all. Funny photos afterwards of Anne’s plumage obliterating his face.

biglouis Mon 08-May-23 01:39:16

Yes I think Penny Mordaunt looked good and did a great job holding that thing aloft for so long. It must have been seriously heavy! I was given the job of carrying the mace in the procession for my graduation (very formal ceremony) and was scared of dropping the thing. I had to sit on the platform while every graduate got their diploma (and applaud them) so I know what it means to be on show with a big heavy object to carry around. At least the mace had a stand for the ceremony.

3) I think using lipreading to report private conversations is despicable. I shan't click on the link and hope I don't find out what was said. Most of us would not put up with such an invasion of privacy and neither should the royals.
8) Princess Anne was in military uniform as she is 'Gold stick in waiting' and was about to ride her horse in the big procession. The fact that her hat hid Harry was a bonus.
12) Pretty Yende was great, a wonderful singer and a great song. Her jewellery was lovely and her dress would have been fabulous if she hadn't paid tribute to the iconic animal of her native South Africa with the great big elephant ears.
9) I loved Penny Mordaunt's outfit, the colour, style and decorations. She did a grand job.

I can't quite answer my own question, number 1, about why the horse was spooked.

But, on line I've just read an article describing what I saw. Which was the horse and rider moving from left to right over and over, for a number of minutes, bumping into the other horses, then the camera shot moved away.

Apparently it then became even more frightened and crashed backwards, through the barrier and into the crowd.
It doesn't seem anyone was actually hurt, because everyone noticed it's uncontrollable and bizarre behaviour and moved out of the way.

Those who ride, would you make a horse move side to side left to right, to calm it down?

Because the rider definitely had terrible trouble trying to control it.
He lost his hat and breast plate at some point.

Norah

Accomplished Theresa Coffey.

Really rather unkind to post "I don't know what she was thinking."

But I genuinely don’t know what she was thinking Norah. Who would wear a Union Jack scarf with a red hat, blue dress and white jacket to the coronation? By any standards it was pretty strange, sorry if you think it was unkind to point that out.

Bizziebe Sun 07-May-23 23:09:26

And Dior made a big of a faux pas themselves advertising the fact.
Fashion houses don't usually need to mention the fact they dress the royals. Discretion is the word.

maddyone Sun 07-May-23 23:03:26

I wonder who influenced the choice of Dior for Harry?

Namsnanny Sun 07-May-23 23:00:43

Harry wore Dior, apparently not the done thing. Should have used Gieves and Hawkes, Anderson and Shepperd.

But the tweet you linked was funny.
Just goes to show what a bubble some people live in, Penny Mordaunt I mean.

I think Samantha Cameron was very brave to promote a pretty pretty dress from her own range when everyone else was wearing designs from Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Emilia Wickstead etc. I quite favour the more sculpted style, but she looked elegant.

i can tell those of you who, unlike me,
don't buy your clothes in poundland !

The woman in the photo above is Theresa Coffey.
