Good Morning Everyone,
Its a dry and pleasant start here in brackley on this bank holiday Monday morning.
Apart from some household chores and hopefully my light done in the bathroom today .
A quiet day of watching cycling on TV ,and maybe take a walk.
Take Care,
Mick

Dear virtual friends. Your kindness means so much. Thank you to all. Mum has a bleed on the brain and pneumonia so things aren't good. I've been over this morning and I'll go back later on. I really appreciate your kind words

Wishing you a very 'Happy Birthday' Cornercupcake also hoping that you and your mum soon feel much better,

Just popped back in to say thanks for all the descriptions of your street parties. Lovely to hear about
It's reached the giddy height of 10° here today - just going to pop out to rainbathe 🤣

cornergran Mon 08-May-23 11:20:53

Sorry greyd, I’m chuckling here.

Many thanks for all the good wishes. Breakfast achieved the rest of the day is on hold. Our bathroom toilet flush has died, we only have the one. Oops. Buckets just aren’t the same. Our lovely plumber never has a day off and will come - at some point. Never mind. Priorities. How’s a toilet flush for the most unusual birthday gift there is? grin

What a time you’re having grandmab. flowers. Please see a doctor about that poorly tum of yours, it’s been far too long.

Greyduster Mon 08-May-23 11:01:19

I’ve just caught up with your post Grandmabatty. I hope your mum is comfortable and makes good progress.💐🤞🏻
I have just done something monumentally stupid. I decided to make another strawberry flan for when DD comes over today. I’ve made hundreds of the sponge bases and never had a failure. I thought it looked slightly odd when I put it in the tin but when it came out it looked like the best Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever made! I tasted a bit. No sugar! Forgot to put it in.🤦‍♀️. It went straight in the bin! Time to put this old girl out to pasture I think!

Good morning from rainy East Lothian. We are planning to set off tomorrow for a trip up the northwest coast covering some of the iconic places like Applecross, in our small campervan. The weather does not look promising.

Yesterday I had said I would cook a roast dinner and take it to the family in their caravan at the coast so I spent the afternoon roasting chicken and veg and making an apple crumble and wrapping all in foil and old towels to transport it the 20 or so minutes drive. It was well received and every dish was cleared.

DH is putting a fresh coat of white paint on the walls in our flat. I may do some weeding at DD’s if the rain stops. If not, I have lots of books to read 🙂. I am enjoying Woman’s Hour on Julian of Norwich.

Thoughts with Grandmabatty.

grandMattie Mon 08-May-23 10:31:47

Happy birthday cornergran. 🍾🎂
My thoughts with you, gmbatty, it’s hard isn’t it? 🫂
FYI, my family is perfect, but I don’t bang on about it… 🤣

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. Lovely friend coming for coffee later this morning neither of us thought about it being a Bank holiday but it makes little difference. We hold very different views about the Monarchy so should have an interesting time, we have known one another for over fifty
years so we usually laugh and agree to differ.
Happy Birthday Cornergran
Grandmabatty sorry you are having such a rough patch.
gM my mum experienced much the same with perfect families all around her but as time went on she became rather interested in how often some of the perfect families visited!
Best wishes to all.

Good morning everyone from a grey Northampton, rain forecast later.

We had a wonderful street party yesterday in our little close, the only absentees being some neighbours on holiday. And of course the weather was perfect!

It looked.very festive, bunting strung up between all the houses, tables set out ready for the meal, and most people wearing red white and blue. We started with fizz and cake, then later on, barbecues were lit and a sumptuous spread was enjoyed by all. There was also delicious Thai food from a neighbour, plus chilli, spring rolls and samosas as well as barbecued goodies. And rhubarb tart and custard to finish. All washed down with fizz, wine and beer. We only called an end to the festivities when it got dark.

It was great company for me especially as I had not heard a peep or an invitation from my DS or DD to spend any part of the holiday weekend with them...... #feeling a bit upset and disappointed.

Will try to beat the expected rain today and get to Matalan to change a top for a different size.
And a simple dinner tonight of cold chicken, after eating much too much yesterday!

Happy birthday 🎂 Cornergran! cupcakeflowers

Good morning everyone from darkest Lancashire. The forecast is for rain all day, so we will not be going out. Too wet for gardening too.

Good morning all. The weather here is really beginning to depress me - although it did improve slightly so that the hills were visible first thing. But I honestly can't remember an April and May like this. It's so stupid to be like this because I usually live my life with the Serenity Prayer in mind! Anyway, suffice to say it's raining on the Angus coast!
Happy Birthday Cornergran. Have a lovely day.
So glad you are having such a lovely time with your Dublin family, baubles. DH used to visit Dublin a lot on business and loved it - he always said he wanted to take me there.
I think I'd get on with your neighbours grandmattie because my family are perfect too 😂. As my own life is so uneventful I tend to live my life through them. This weekend I have had a wonderful time dancing in a beautiful theatre in Estonia - the second performance was amazing! -
watching a pipe band on the Scottish west coast and enjoying the sunshine and warmth in a little village near Nottingham! All that and a coronation too!
Today is kitchen blitz day in my real life - I shall enjoy that once it's done!
Enjoy your Bank Holiday everyone x

Good morning Mick and everyone from gloomy rainy Carlisle. It's going to last most of the day I believe so has scuppered my thoughts of a drive out and maybe a visit to the garden centre. Yesterday was largely fine and sunny. I went for a walk round the country park after breakfast. There was new life out on the pond, baby mallards, coots and moorhens. The latter were tiny balls of black fluff probably only a day old but swimming vigorously and being fed by Mum/Dad.
Later, I was out in the garden re-locating some spent tulips and spent time reading the papers and a book.
Today, I might just as well get on with the housework and hope for better weather later in the week.

Happy birthday to you Corner.
And I hope your mother improves, Grandmabatty, and that you stay well.

The best possible day to you all.

Pittcity Mon 08-May-23 09:07:43

Happy Birthday Corner. I'll happily share some sunshine with you as it doesn't agree with me.

Sar53 Mon 08-May-23 09:06:52

Good morning from Essex by the sea. The sun is shining at the moment but rain is expected later.
I watched the concert last night and enjoyed it very much.
Happy Birthday to Corner, have a lovely day.
Thinking of you GMBatty.
Roast pork later, we couldn't be bothered yesterday.
Enjoy Bank Holiday Monday everyone xxx

Wyllow3 Mon 08-May-23 08:59:26

Over cast and likely to rain here in S Yorks tho no rain yet.

Happy birthday Cornergran and a very tough time GMBatty

hollysteers Mon 08-May-23 08:50:46

Good morning Mick and all from a damp northwest coast.
Finally unpacked from my trip and watched the coronation concert. Too much pop for me, but liked Lionel Ritchie. My DD lives in Windsor and watched it on the long walk.

Will have a warble today as on the desk for music club tomorrow and singing.

Very pleased to hear your news re your DD Gingster, being away, am late catching up.
Thoughts to GMBatty and many happy returns of the day Corner

Mamie Mon 08-May-23 08:48:54

Good Morning from Normandy. Today is a Bank Holiday in France on May 8th, VE day. I am taking a posy of flowers from our garden to the ceremony at the village War Memorial in memory of an English pilot who died here in June 1944.

Susan56 Mon 08-May-23 08:42:55

I’m so sorry you’re having such a difficult time Grandmabatty.Look after yourself too💐

Grandmabatty Mon 08-May-23 08:35:15

Marydoll you're not wrong! 2023 has been a helluva year so far. As they say, things can only get better.

Abitbarmy Mon 08-May-23 08:32:17

Good morning everyone from a dull but dry North Yorkshire but forecast to rain later. Coronation day and yesterday were gloriously sunny after dodgy starts so yesterday’s village hall party went well with enough food to feed an army. DGd had a whale of a time on the bouncy castle and making new friends. A late bedtime but at least she didn’t wake till 7.30 this morning. A great weekend all round. Grandad still snoring as I write. Today we must crack on with preparations for the new flooring coming Wednesday so will take DGd home at lunchtime. I’ve got lots of sorting to do with tomato plants repotting etc but mindful of my poor spine after scan result. Hard to keep asking DH to lift this, move that, but I suppose I’ll get used to it. Hope everyone has a good day if possible.

Grammaretto Mon 08-May-23 08:31:03

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
It's raining.
The plants will be happy. I said I'd join the community gardeners today by filling raised beds with new compost. I may go and watch!
After my foraging I made nettle soup yesterday for the Quakers. it all got eaten!
A df invited me to join their barbeque last night . They cooked freshly caught trout for the coronation meal.

Well done gM ! It will get better. We do love to boast about our DGC to anyone who'll listen. You must be a good listener. What a relief you missed all those visits from the warden! grin

I am glad so many here have had a great weekend. Baubles I am determined to see Dublin soon. I've not been.

Happy birthday 🎉 Corner such a lot of celebrations.

Sending warm wishes to you Multi and others who are bereaved. It is times like this when we feel most alone
