I loved Mum the story sort of played out over the subsequent series'

Thought it was ghastly, though others on GN adored it.

Lesley Manville’s character let herself be such a doormat, the foul languaged in-laws, the gormless son and even more gormless girlfriend….

I watched the first series, couldn’t face the rest.

Only Fools and Horses. So over rated.
Last of the Summer Wine.

I am Irish and never found Mrs Browns boys even vaguely amusing, I don’t know anyone that does.

I think I said I loved them all. Not quite true.

I’ve never watched Mrs Brown’s Boys. The trailers were enough to tell me I wouldn’t like it.

I’m in two minds about Fawlty Towers. Sybil was very funny, Basil not.

Prunella Scales played Sybil to perfection. When I watch re-runs I always enjoy it a bit more by focusing on her character. In a way - she actually made Basil more amusing because of her reaction to his mania! For me, she was the star of the show!

Whilst I’ve never enjoyed watching Mrs Browns Boys on tv I did go to see the stage show and loved it. It was pure pantomime ( and I love pantomime: oh yes I do….)

One Foot was absolute genius, my favourite sitcom ever.
Closely followed by Dad’s Army and Father Ted

Detest Mrs Brown’s Boys. Awful unfunny programme.

Adored Father Ted though and have all the DVDs and even though I have watched them a million times, they still make me laugh.

There is not a single current British SitCom that I like or watch. They are old American Sit coms but King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond make me laugh.

Some of the comedies mentioned here I’ve never seen, but have seen ever decreasing circles recently and thought it was ok, dated but amusing.
I thought I hated Mrs. B B until I actually watched a few episodes to the end, then thought tho some of it was crass and even crude humour at times, it was also clever in that it wove messages of family love,and friendship, and other themes into it.
Dave and Gold are great channels for old comedies.

I’ve recently started watching Dave because my catchup tv was broke and ended up watching Modern Life is Good’ish on it last night. I was laughing out loud. I’m now watching the whole series on utube.

I don’t like any of those mentioned already, can’t stand John Cleese Auntiflo but I liked Mrs Brown in the early days haven’t watched it for a few years now is it still around ?

Ah, the potency of Mr. Darcy. A fantasy man for us all!

But out on a limb here, as the only sitcoms I make an effort of rewatching are Father Ted , Faulty Towers and Steptoe.

Sometimes, people pronounce that a particular sit-com / series was "rubbish"... which is so subjective!

If I don't like a programme, I attempt to analyse why. I'm not the arbiter of good or bad 'taste'.

I was absolutely enchanted and addicted to the 1995 mini-series PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Yet a couple of friends of mine thought it was an awful production - people I got on really well with and with whom I shared similar tastes! I know exactly why it appealed to me - rose-coloured specs and a huge dollop of nostalgia for an era that only existed in my mind! Pure escapism...

I agree with all of the above. Though I can watch Porridge and Dad's Army time and again. DA always reminds me of what my father and FIL told me they had to get up to before going into the forces. So much that seems exaggerated is true.
Crawling along dry stone walls on a Sunday afternoon with a brush shank still makes me smile, people out for a walk popping their heads over and saying "How do".

Dickens I agree re Love Thy Neighbour.
Similar to Alf Garnett, I think that it was much understood, usually by folk who hadn’t seen it

I used to like Ever decreasing circles. When I watched it again I was horrified at the way Martin treated his wife. He was most unlikeable

I have only ever seen clips from MRS BROWN'S BOYS - enough to know that it wasn't for me. But, not having watched it, maybe I shouldn't judge it!

I agree with you about EVER DECRASING CIRCLES - Martin... permanently irritated by everything and everyone, began to grate somewhat!

LOVE THEY NEIGHBOUR - still in two minds about that one. It seemed to become more about two men squaring up to each other in that challenging way that men can - whilst the sensible and practical wives just got on with it. A bit too formulaic, but I think it was an attempt to break down racial prejudice with a dollop of humour, which didn't quite work out.
