Further to the other thread

For me it’s the later Only Fools
Plus TVOD, I really don’t like Dawn French, and I’m not entirely sure why…

Same for me, I thought I was the only person in the country who didn't like it, everyone else seems to think it's hilarious

Mrs Browns Boys
The Vicar of Dibley

Dickens I agree with all of yours. Plus Mrs Brown's Boys and another old one, Love they Neighbour.
I used to like Ever decreasing circles. When I watched it again I was horrified at the way Martin treated his wife. He was most unlikeable

Blondiescot Thu 11-May-23 08:29:42

Definitely Mrs Brown's Boys - as funny as toothache!

Galaxy Thu 11-May-23 08:42:21

Who is watching Mrs Browns Boys?, am sure I remember a thread on MN where everyone hated it.

NotSpaghetti Thu 11-May-23 08:51:22

Children maybe?

JackyB Thu 11-May-23 09:06:55

As I said on the "other thread", not having lived in the UK, I missed out on all the TV of the 1980s and 1990s. The later stuff I could catch up with via the internet.

When I do see some of the legendary sitcoms from those decades now, they don't seem very funny, really. I suppose you had to be there at the time. They hit the spot back in the day and have gained cult status since. I see that happening with the sitcoms that I DO remember from the 1960s and 1970s. Many of those are really cringeworthy!

Most of above and Keeping Up Appearances & It Ain't Alf Hot Ma - loathed them both confused

I’m glad it’s not just me with TVOD.

Dickens re Dawn French.
I just don’t understand my animosity towards her.
I think that she’s very beautiful and she also reminds me a lot of one of my best friends, even down to the West Country accent.
There seems something a bit off or fake about her.
The magnificent Liz Smith didn’t like her either, I wonder why…

I also really don’t like Lenny Henry , and I really, really want to as he’s a working class Dudley lad done good

I think Lee Mack is a great comedian but I was very disappointed when I tried watching his sitcom Not Going Out.

Mrs Brown's Boys is dire, though I had a good belly laugh when "she" fell backwards with a ladder and Christmas tree collapsed on top of her.

Sago Thu 11-May-23 09:43:49

I am Irish and never found Mrs Browns boys even vaguely amusing, I don’t know anyone that does.
Who on earth watches it?

FannyCornforth Thu 11-May-23 09:47:03

Nell yes, Not Going Out is dreadful. Really disappointing

nanna8 Thu 11-May-23 09:48:31

Yes- Mrs. Brown’s boys. What are they thinking? Terrible show. I used to like John Cleese but it is dated now and not funny anymore. Same applies to Monty Python- really great in its day, not now, so why do they keep offering it up ? Comedy is a funny thing, humour changes quite quickly when you think about it.

JaneJudge Thu 11-May-23 09:50:39

Isn't it funny how many of us dislike Mrs Browns Boys? (I dislike it too)

FannyCornforth Thu 11-May-23 09:50:52

I’m going out on a limb here and say that I find MBB slightly entertaining in that it’s like a pantomime, and is quite clever in the ‘breaking the fourth wall’ thing.
If you view it from a post modern perspective it helps.

Having said that, I’d never watch it through choice.
DH quite likes it, but he’s not exactly discerning smile

Ooh Jane! 👋 We posted at exactly the same time! x
