Am I the only one out there that actually enjoys housework, get up at around 7.30am, take my dog out, have breakfast and off I go, music on, vacuum in hand I’m a real Freddie Mercury minus the pvc mini skirt, Anyone else love it.

I don't particularly like cleaning but do enjoy the end result, for instance, I cleaned windows last week and am enjoying looking out through clean, shiny windows now and hopefully for some time longer.
I normally try to do cleaning in stages, today I cleaned upstairs and after a few days will do downstairs. Our home is not very big but I would find doing the whole house all at once a bit too much.
On the subject of cooking, I usually enjoy it and pretty much do everything from scratch, which DH and myself enjoy when it comes to eating.
However. I tend to cook enough for two days at a time, which saves energy and makes life easier for me.

My cleaner has just been (yes, I know we’re fortunate to be able to employ someone) and my house is sparkling. She’s only young but a far better cleaner than me, even after 50 years of practising. grin

Cleaning is so boring, though a necessary evil, I guess. Some people make it seem so effortless, I have one friend who never seems to actually get down and dirty but her house is immaculate at all times, as is she. They have no clutter at all. Even their wifi router gets put away when they’ve finished whatever they’re doing on the internet! She never judges, though and couldn’t care less what anyone else’s house looks like. ❤️

When I worked I always had a cleaner, but on retirement I decided that I needed to keep active so decided to take on the housework. That was 17 years ago and the initial novelty was fine but recently the boredom is driving me mad, I go from total inertia to pottering through, but I can see that I will be considering employing a cleaner sooner rather than later.

noo, i know someone who cleans her house everyday ,gets up at 5.30am and starts cleaning, she has OCD, enough said.

I’d annihilate the person who invented housework ! My best friend moans and moans and moans about housework but does about 3-4 hours a day !! She’s mad …but I love her ! And actually she loves it!!
When she comes to my house she often asks why her house doesn’t look any cleaner than mine….. I keep explaining the equation… but she’s lost!!

You sound like me, lol.

I’ve always enjoyed housework, twice a week I thoroughly clean bathrooms, vacuum and wash floors while listening to interesting radio talk shows… these days I’ve really cut back on ironing, I used to iron almost everything

Yellowmellow Mon 15-May-23 13:57:16

I like my house clean and tidy, but don't like housework . I do a room thoroughly everyday and keep the rest tidy. Make the bed, clear washing up etc. Doesn't take long at all and frees me up for the things l do enjoy This works for me

I used to do the dance when I was younger. Then I really got into my work - who has the time then?

I have a friend like you and she’s a wiz at cleaning, organizing. She just LOVES to help me with certain closets (that become like jigsaw puzzles over time.) I appreciate her so much.

I’ve learned that there is more to life than constantly cleaning. I choose my friends, family and social opportunities.
Life is short and getting shorter.

I do like a bit of order and can't live with mess. I'm fine when the grandchildren descend but order is soon restored after.

I have a cleaner because I cant manage the housework, and its absolutely wonderful. Hated it.

twiglet77 Mon 15-May-23 13:46:04

I hate it, lugging the vacuum cleaner out, especially up the stairs, moving all the photo frames to dust. And changing the bed, though at least that’s nice when it’s done. I couldn’t care less about a bit of dust!

grandtanteJE65 Mon 15-May-23 13:30:17

Yes I enjoy housework and revel in having the time to do it properly now that I have retired.

Cleaning, washing, ironing, mending, cooking, making jam and jellies and juice, baking - all so wonderfully relaxing and satisfying.

I am not so keen on shopping and I hate, loathe and detest gardening!

HannahLoisLuke Mon 15-May-23 12:14:58

I do actually enjoy it but health problems mean every job takes ages. Cleaning my bedroom and bathroom the other day actually took two days! Day one, cobweb chasing, cleaning blinds, windows and mirrors, changing bed linen. Day two, polishing and vacuuming, scrubbing shower, basin, loo, floor. I was exhausted but pleased it was done. Used to take a morning! Now for the spare rooms, other bathroom, stairs and landing. And on it goes but I can’t live in a tip. Luckily I live alone and am tidy so it could be worse.

inishowen Mon 15-May-23 12:12:19

No not me. My neighbour loves it and used to get annoyed when her daughter started on the chores. Turns out they both loved cleaning.

pandapatch Mon 15-May-23 11:32:54

I find it helps not to wear my reading glasses when doing housework, everything appears clan and dust-free!!!

Poppyred Mon 15-May-23 11:14:26

Grandmabatty

I enjoy having a clean and tidy house. I don't particularly enjoy getting there but it's a necessary evil

Me too. 🙄

I don’t enjoy housework nowadays, never did really but I used to be quite house proud when I was younger. I’d much rather be going off out or doing other things. I do the basics to keep things clean & tidy then when I have the time and energy I give everywhere a really deep clean and have a good sort out. I like a nice tidy lounge and bedroom, I find it hard to relax with mess around me but I’m very prone to creating little piles of muddles & clutter which just seem to get moved around! I hate cleaning windows & getting down to clean skirting boards, it’s such an effort!
I think I’ll consider getting a cleaner when I’m a bit older.

I do a lot of knitting for a charity, so Doing Something Useful is a brilliant excuse for ignoring the dreaded housework. Not that I actually need one, though admittedly I have just run my ancient carpet sweeper all over downstairs. At this time of year endless ‘bits’ are blown or trodden in - little brown leaf sheaths from the beech tree, and the remains of ‘pink snow’ from the flowering cherry.

Patsy70 Mon 15-May-23 10:19:18

I dislike cleaning, as it is a necessary evil and monotonous, a never ending circle. I do like a clean(ish) home, though. Don’t mind washing & ironing, especially when it dries outside. However, I enjoy cooking and don’t consider it a chore. My real love is gardening, so therapeutic.

eazybee Mon 15-May-23 10:14:29

The more you do housework the more there is to do, and one of the downsides of being at home is that you notice it more.
On the other hand, I enjoy cooking, probably because I am quite good at it and get satisfying results, for just me and for others.
No one ever comes in and says, 'oh what a beautifully hoovered room' whereas praise is given freely for good meals.
How shallow am I!

henetha Mon 15-May-23 09:30:50

Never did like housework and now it's painful as well I hate it.
But I do it, a bit at a time...

Lexisgranny Mon 15-May-23 08:47:16

My mother and both grandmothers had ‘daily’s’ , but my mother was naturally untidy, in a strange way, eg beautifully ironed clothes in piles and not put away til the pile started tipping, however her home was immaculately clean. I am a bit of a neat freak ( possibly as a result) but I cannot say that I enjoy doing housework. I get immense satisfaction from seeing a gleaming, tidy home, but not so keen on the journey to achieve it!

sodapop Mon 15-May-23 08:37:14

I enjoy getting everything clean as well, vacuum, clean the kitchen & bathroom daily. I'm not worried if it's a bit untidy as long as it's clean. I dislike cooking and gardening though.
