Oh Soop! I hope you can be back with us soon.
Our cleaner didn’t turn up. I’ve tried ringing a few times but it goes straight to answerphone.
OH had a cortisone injection into his knee this afternoon. He said there was no discomfort.
I had a difficult conversation with a very old friend today. She has been diagnosed with a very serious form of cancer in her abdomen and the tumour is pressing into her spine and causing pain. She will have surgery and chemotherapy in the coming weeks. I first met her over forty years ago when we both joined the village babysitting circle.
Have a good evening. I’ve just put a Bol in the oven for later.

Is today annsixty's birthday? wine cupcake.
Hope you are enjoying your time away.

I really hope that your DH's surgery goes ahead this time, cornergran. A good idea to fill the waiting time with outings (& cake!)

Warm thoughts for you all, especially those who are unwell, or under par just now.

So sorry to hear that soop, I know how life's events can make us feel at times. I hope you feel better soon.

soop Wed 12-Jul-23 12:14:19

I have been experiencing a period of depression. Hence my absence from our lovely kitchen. I am beginning to feel that my spirits are lifting. Thankfully, when I am feeling more like the "real me" I shall return to share with you lovely lot. flowers

Good evening! A busy day, baking for the freezer in preparation for a family party at the beginning of August. I’m starting to panic a little - lots to do and the time is disappearing!
SueD I think I remember Happy Valley! There used to be cut out figures in woods at the side of the road. I don’t think I ever went in.
Lovely to see you Muse. Please update us on your house.
Much love to the Urms and to Blossoming.
Tomorrow is our WI safari supper, so I need to make Coronation Chicken for 17 and new potatoes. Other people are doing other contributions. By this time tomorrow, it will all be over!
I hope you enjoy your holiday Ann and that you are back with us very soon soop.

How lovely to pop in and see the message from Urms...I like everyone in the kitchen have been thinking ( and praying) for you both. I know Grandmarie will agree with me that sometimes at the lowest parts of our lives we come into contact with someone who inspires and encourages us to go forward. For me this will always be God given and the times it's happened to me have been very powerful and the course of my life changed. Bless both of you and the wonderful couple who shared their story with you.
LlFL... I'd be really peed off..I love a bargain.. But did the dress cost more than £54 to begin with? If so you are still winning. I hope so.
AnnS... I'm so glad you've decided to go...a change of scene if nothing else and your meals cooked too. Don't hold back if your friend is not happy that you can't do all she wants to do... It's you who is hurt... Just tell her you are happy to sit and read/people watch etc while she does her thing and you'll reconvene later in the day.
Yia... Glad you are having a break... You so need it.
Corner...my worst fears realised...but I think ( it may have changed) but I think they can't cancel a third time but in the meantime you are so right to just enjoy your days... walks and cake sound like a very good plan to me.
Hula.. I'm so sorry that your injection didn't work. My first one worked for 5 days but in fairness I was packing up and cleaning a 5 bedroom house the day afterwards and self moving 200 miles away 3 days later. The second one worked for 2 weeks but it did prove to my consultant that the problem was definitely my hip. Did yours give you any relief albeit very short term?
I've spent a recovery day.... We did the parish BBQ on Saturday...it went down very well but pooped both of us...DOH was in lots of discomfort after lifting the gas BBQ . We went to the diocesan pilgrimage at Glastonbury on Sunday and although we both managed the walk we were both too uncomfortable to stay for Mass. I probably compounded things by having an in depth clean of the upper floor yesterday and followed it on with the individual exercise routine in the pool in the afternoon. It was hard but the ladies in the group are great fun so there are lots of laughs too. One of the ladies had me in fits when she said her false boob was about to pop out of her costume and fly across the pool. She had a mastectomy 19 years ago and had named her 'fillet' Mary..I've set up a little group who are meeting for coffee/lunch..and next year we will have a birthday party for Mary and the cake will be a boob. She has written over 50 children's books ... Lots of then used in primary schools on their reading scheme...Everyone in the class is inspirational...all of us battling some health issues...and a bit like Urms ... I'm glad I've been lucky enough to meet them.

cornergran Tue 11-Jul-23 20:21:13

Goodness, grandmab. Tired? I should think you were and are zorsted as our granddaughter used to say.

Sounds a good break yia. Just what you needed. Thank you for the photos.

Ouch ladylfl, I’d be surprised at that cost but equally back off from doing it myself, a shame as it takes the shine off a bargain.

An email arrived with the new surgery date. It’s a month ahead. We both feel pretty flat, the junior doctors have been scheduling their action about a month apart. Neither of us have conviction it will occur.

In the meantime it’s up and out when we can. A few outings including lunch will keep us cheerful.

Hope you’re enjoying your break ann. I can be the same, often loose enthusiasm for time away but then enjoy it once I’m there. Hope the same for you.

Hope life’s easier soon soop.

Take care everyone.

Thank you for keeping in touch Urms. I am one of very many who follow and wish you both well,

Jaxjacky Tue 11-Jul-23 18:28:38

You must be tired Granmabatty, a challenging day.
I’d be useless llfl, a button is my limit.
No rain, well, a couple of spots and this afternoon a chill wind when I went for a walk. I think it’s going to be to be a British summer of old, no bad thing, but I hope for a last hurrah in September.
Enjoy your evenings.

mrshat Tue 11-Jul-23 18:06:19

Good to hear from you Urms and I marvel at your gentleman's inspiration and positivity. A lesson for us all, I think. Hang on in there and love and prayers for yourself and Himself.
Not forgetting all others who are suffering or caring for those who are. Take care all flowers

brook2704 Tue 11-Jul-23 18:03:12

Hi to all kitchen pals, it’s been a right mix of sunshine and showers today, warm when the sunshine out then rain without warning. We’ve been out and about mainly shopping today and a gentle walk, we also stopped for a nice lunch at a cafe by the river. Back home now and thinking about what to make for dinner later
So good to see you here muse, I often think of you and wonder if you’ve fully settled into your new build now after all the hard work you put in..
💐 for Corner hope you hear something soon
Well done in getting through today grandmabatty, can’t be easy with two lively boys to entertain indoors when it’s raining.
Hoping ann is well settled in Llandudno now
A shame the alterations cost such a lot llfl after getting such a bargain in the sale, but I’d be the same and couldn’t do it myself.
Hi soop hope all is ok and you’re back again with us soon

dragonfly46 Tue 11-Jul-23 17:53:01

Just popped in tho the kitchen to add my best wishes to Urms and MrUrms.
I too met inspirational people while undergoing treatment, it certainly helped me and there is no better place in Europe than Christie’s.

Grandmabatty Tue 11-Jul-23 17:37:39

Afternoon kitcheners. Cornergran poor Mr C. That's rotten. Charliegirl we have had torrential showers on and off most of the day which scuppered the afternoon on the garden plan for me and the boys. We were at the country park this morning for an hour, then dgs1 got bored which is understandable as we were there last Tuesday. So we headed to a local park which has a fabulous play park that both boys enjoyed. Then home for lunch and a nap for dgs2. The afternoon was challenging as we couldn't get out. I don't mind taking them out in rain but this was biblical. I waved to Noah on his way past. The boys were pushing boundaries this afternoon and I was tired so it was a bit fretful for all. I've dropped them off and I'm heading to see mum in hospital soon before dinner. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Hi from Pickering been to Scarborough today lovely weather then it a storm on way back .we had a lovely Indian meal yesterday Italian tonight.Sorry you have received more bad news blossoming. Lovely to hear from you Urms .Soop hope you feel up to posting more soon.Take care all.

Charleygirl5 Tue 11-Jul-23 16:11:58

Urms lovely to hear from you.

Corner words fail me and it is not often that happens. Poor Mr.C as this is the second time his major surgery has been cancelled. I would carry on as normal until you receive a definite date and then spend more time at home and in your garden prior to admission.

We have had 3 spots of rain here today, not enough for the windscreen wipers. I was expecting rain as my car was washed yesterday.

TOYA

Looking forward to your proper return to the kitchen, Soop!
I collected my new framed print today. It looks very good on the bright pink hall wall. Honestly. Then I called in on a local seamstress with a dress for her to turn up. Annoyingly, it will cost more to do the hem than the dress actually cost! It was in a John Lewis sale for £19. Turning it up will cost me £35. I’m not a particularly accomplished needle woman, and can just about make curtains, but lots of hem + lining is beyond me.
Have a good evening everyone and my thoughts as always are with Urms and others who are suffering in all sorts of ways.

GrannySomerset Tue 11-Jul-23 14:02:58

Lovely story from Urms and a reminder that you never know what influence you may have on other people. Thinking of you both.

Have done a supermarket shop and a committee meeting so now settling in for some tennis - weather permitting.

soop Tue 11-Jul-23 13:31:33

Special love to our dear Urms

I hope to be back in kitchen on a more regular basis just as soon as I'm able.

In the meantime...thank you for your understanding and patience. flowers

Thorntrees Tue 11-Jul-23 12:20:08

Just wanted to send love to urms and her DH. It seems you might have met an ‘angel unawares’ just when you needed one.
Thoughts for anyone else who needs them today(flowers).

muse Tue 11-Jul-23 09:27:30

Hello urms. I’m a GN reader these days and have watched out for your news. What amazing words from that gentleman at the hospital and I’m pleased they helped you and MrUrm. 🤗.

Doodle Tue 11-Jul-23 09:22:43

Lovely to hear from you Urms . You and your DH in my thoughts and prayers as is Baggs DD.

annsixty Tue 11-Jul-23 06:22:28

So sorry for you and your H Cornergran your frustration and worry is so unfair.
My hip op was cancelled/ postponed 4 days before surgery due to Covid but that was just inconvenient (and very painful) but a delay like yours is another matter all together.
Your acceptance is praiseworthy.
I pray you soon get another date.
I am up early preparing to go on my jolly. I haven’t packed yet but everything is ready just to put in my small case.
I’m sure I will enjoy it once I am there.
Very unsettled weather forecast but heyho It will be a change of scenery and my meals will be cooked.
Have the best day you can everyone.
