I'm glad you were able to enjoy your birthday and your wee break with MrB.
Take care.
Good afternoon kitchen pals, a quiet kitchen today so I’ll tiptoe in ..
I’m just sat in the lounge at Luton airport, there’s a slight delay on the flight to Inverness but nothing much. DH usually picks me up but not today as he’s not back to driving yet, so it’ll be the train into town and then pick up the car from DDs where I’d left it!
When I was in Cambridge DD1 showed me the Co Op delivery robots that they have here. Maybe some of you have seen them already but not me. I’ll try to attach a picture. Apparently you order whatever you want via an app and the little robot makes its way from the local Co Op along the pavement to your front door all by itself, even stops at junctions etc.. Amazing to watch !
Hoping everyone is doing ok especially soop and special hugs to Blossoming
Hello kitchen people. It’s very quiet today. Perhaps I should put out a tray of chocolate muffins. The gardener came today and trimmed the hedges in the front garden. She always checks there aren’t any birds nests first. I spent the afternoon at my friends doing collage. I’m afraid I’m not very good. But we had tea and homemade biscuits which were tasty. Thinking of those suffering in all sorts of ways and especially Urms whose family is having such a difficult time..
Good evening Kitcheners from a very tired grandma. Soft play this morning for two hours. My aunt turned up and the boys were thrilled to see her. She's never had children so adores all the family. The big hugs made her day. After soft play, lunch then dgs2 went for a two hour nap while dgs1 and I played on the garden. He ate some gooseberries. Brave boy as they are sour! He also was pretending to be a highway man and I was his victim. At various times he was having long conversations with various neighbours of mine. When dgs2 woke up, we went to the swings and then to watch a digger at work. I've dropped them off and had a coffee and am now home. I have a little tidying up to do. Both boys helped tidy before they left. Then I'm making honey chicken and rice. I was going to make Caesar salad but I fancy that instead. Brook I hope you are well on your way. Blossoming I'm thinking of you. Ladyleftfieldlover I could be doing with a gimlet right now! Soop I hope you are ok. Cornergran I hope Mr C has good news about his op. Have a good evening Kitcheners.
Hello lovely folk in soops comforting kitchen. Himself and I were at The Christie hospital again today.
I have a small story to share with you all, if I may?
We got chatting to a really nice smiley man in the waiting room for the blood test. He was in a wheelchair. He said “I like coming here. You can talk freely about having cancer because everyone has it in here. I’ve got terminal cancer. Stage IV. Adrenal mass. Nothing much they can do for me now, the chemotherapy has stopped working. I’m 68y. Yes, I’d have liked a bit longer - who wouldn’t? - but I was told 6 to 12 months and I’m 18 months in. I’ve had sepsis twice and pneumonia twice. We live Blackpool way and are so lucky to have this wonderful hospital, world renowned, on our doorstep.”
I told him he was inspirational and seemed very accepting of his outlook. He shrugged and said “what can you do? You either turn to face that wall and give up or you soldier on, enjoying what you can while you can.” His wife was a jolly soul too. Love and acceptance radiated from the pair of them. I felt quite humbled and have been thinking about him ever since we spoke.
He got called in so I wished him all the best - “hopefully to your next 18 months”. He tapped his head and said “this is what makes a difference. Your mindset. I truly believe it’s worth 50% of your treatment”.
TOYA and heartfelt thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. They are very gratefully received.
x
How cheering Urms definitely food for thought, it’s great to see you ❤️
Quiz tonight, wish me luck all.
Safe journey brook wonder if our little Co-op will get robots?
ttfn.
Lots of love, Urmses. BTDD visits The Christie every four weeks. She calls it "my hospital". ❤️
Never had a gimlet, LLFL, but I think I must try one sometime. Made myself a large "Teal" today (pain relief). It's one I invented: 2 shots white rum, generous splashes of Grenadine, lime juice, Blue Curaçao, and peach schnapps 😋
So good to hear from you Urms.🌸
Urms you and your dear man are often in my thoughts and prayers. Keep soldiering on. It's so good to hear from you xx
I don't often post here but always read. Just wanted to say it is good to hear from you Urms. Bless that man for his positive attitude. When my DH was diagnosed, I asked if he was scared. He said 'No. I'll be scared when they tell me I need to be'. Nine years on he's still here.
Llfl We too are fascinated by Princess Charlotte ever since we saw this memorial in a park here in Birmingham. I had never heard of her before.

We’ve had them in and around Milton Keynes for several, years, I remember nearly freaking out the first time I saw one happily trundling along a Redway cycle path parallel to the road I was on!
Had the aliens landed?
Another reader here but popping into the kitchen, if I may, to say it’s good to hear from Urms and that encouraging conversation.
All the best to her and her DH, and indeed to all those who are not feeling well.
So so lovely to switch my phone on after the flight and see your message Urms sending you and your DH much ❤️ I’m often thinking of you both x
Sending much love to you, Urms. Xxx
☹️ at the latest insurance quotes people are receiving. Both car and house are on my To Do list when I get home.
We didn’t go on holiday much when I was a child but a great-aunt lived in Llandudno and we twice visited her there. She ran a B&B so that was handy! I loved Happy Valley, which was an Alice in Wonderland light show. V primitive compared to today’s offerings!
So sorry you’ve lost Another friend Blossoming. It really hits home at times.
Hope you’re home, Brook and that MrB has survived without you!
I’ve had a busy time with the family here in Hants, am currently babysitting while ds and dil have gone to the cinema. I’ve been gardening and all sorts during my visit - it’ll be a holiday to go home.
We were hoping to visit dd2 in Yorkshire on our way back but both she and her boyfriend have succumbed to Covid again. 🦠
Dd1 is also unwell, although with a nameless lurgy, likely caught from her children.
In cheerier news, ds1 is currently in California for a week before travelling to Hawaii for another week. They really need a break after this last year.
TOYA. Xxx
I am a long time ‘lurker’ reader of posts particularly ‘Soops’ and ‘Good morning’ and am very cheered to see Urmunstongran posting .
Keeping many others in my thoughts
Good to hear from Urms. 💐
How good and inspiring to hear from you Urms, I wish you and your husband so much more than written words can express.
baggs your post was in a different way also inspiring, I really admire your daughter and wish the very best for her.
Your pain relief medication is inspiring in a totally different way. Is it likely to be available on prescription soon?
That was an inspirational chat Urmstongran, I send my warmest thoughts to you & your husband. x
Blossoming, you are having a difficult time, my sympathy for you.
I hope you get on your holiday annsixty, & that you are able to enjoy your birthday. Also that you are recovering from the fall, take care.
I've seen those cute little delivery robots in Cambridge, brook, although they don't cover the area that our DD lives.
Good wishes to soop & all in her cosy kitchen.
Great to read your post Urms.
What an uplifting couple to have met.
Sending you my very best wishes.
Hello, Urms and MrUrms, so good to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your story of that special, inspirational meeting at the hospital. When we need one, God sends an angel.
TOYA, especially those having a hard time just now. Great to hear that your son is enjoying a wonderful holiday, SueD.
NNGB.
Good to see you urms, what a wonderful man you met at the hospital. My love to you and your husband.
We’re hanging on to positive thinking here as Mr C’s surgery has been cancelled, again. This time Admissions were clear, the current industrial action is to blame. Until now staff have been very tactfully avoidant around the ‘why’ of cancellations. I suspect ear bashing from some patients has triggered sharing an honest reason No new date yet, clinical need juggling must occur first.
Initially deflated we gathered ourselves and headed out for cake. Very good it was too. Until a new date arrives we plan to be out and about as much as possible. Although symptoms are more noticeable and care must be taken walking is fine for Mr C as long as we don’t head for steep inclines. Am I likely to do that? Definitely not! If the torrential rain has moved away we’ll venture forth on Thursday. Mundane stuff for us both to do before then.
Strange isn’t it. After hearing the third person bemoan the rain I got to thinking how those same people were bemoaning the lack of shade, the rain. and muttering about the heat not so long ago.
Never satisfied are we?
Goodnight everyone xx
