I must admit I do like the Art Nouveau emblem and writing for the Paris games. The three iconic images - the Olympic flame, the gold medal, and Marianne - all rolled into one is very clever and a winner for me. It ensures that Paris owns the event.

How exciting for you! I don't think I would travel out of country to view a sporting event, in fact when we had the Olympics in our own province (Vancouver Winter 2010) we didn't partake except to view on TV. The events are so costly now, it seems all the tickets are bought by big business and given as bonuses for executives.

If I could choose an event to watch for summer olympics, it would most likely be diving.

I was a GamesMaker in 2012 and will never forget the wonderfujl atmosphere that sjurrounded those games. Everyone smiled and was happy, the sun shone, the sports were brilliant, all of them.

I am very happy that the Games next year are in our timezone, and have already allocated that two weeks for tv watching. For me, first on the list is Artistic Gymnastics. I was actually in the Arena when our Men, in 2012 won that team Bronze (first GB medal of those games and first Artistic tem medal since 1906!!! ). I will also watch the Diving, and the Wall Climbing, Athletics, and then as much of as many other sports as I can fit in.

Watching on tv I actually get a better view for Gymnastics, but miss out on the atmosphere. Have neither the money, nor the health to go to those Games, pass that baton on to others. So good to see people from countries all over the world come together for healthy competition and celebration.

I’m sure it will be a fabulous experience, and of course being lucky enough to secure tickets is no mean feat is it?!
I remember how excited I was when we got tickets to Wimbledon some years back for the men’s final.

Like a lot of girls I went through a ‘horsey’ phase in my early teens and had riding lessons for a few years, and I still enjoy watching dressage.

Hopefully you will hear from someone else who is going, but in the meantime I’m sure you will ignore those who seem to delight in saying they have no interest in it.

My daughter was successful in first draw got tickets for four of them to three different events. Already booked accommodation etc away from Paris and will travel in by train. She was very lucky to get tickets in London 2012 and was in the Athletics stadium when we won 6? gold in one day. She can't wait as they love sport.

Good for you ! I wasn’t lucky in the draw but I did go to our Olympics in 2012 and that was a wonderful experience !! I cried when I sat in the stadium as I couldn’t believe I was there!

How wonderful. I am not interested in horses but we got tickets for the Dressage at Greenwich in 2012 and it was amazing especially as when the UK won.
I am sure you will have a wonderful time, the atmosphere is amazing and a special treat being in Paris at Versailles.

Each to his or her own taste. Of course it costs taxpayers money when it's in the UK (and funding for UK athletes when abroad) but it's probably good for tourism and soft power (given the decline in the UK's world status). I never watch it though as I find it boring.

I have wonderful memories of London 2012 Olympics and being at Wimbledon to see Andy Murray and Laura Robson win Silver in the mixed doubles. Unique atmosphere and very different from "normal" Wimbledon.

Unfortunately, although it’s on my doorstep the tickets are so expensive at the moment. Maybe later they will get more reasonable.

Not going to the Olympics but thoroughly enjoyed the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth games held in Edinburgh in 1980.

Went to the dressage phase of three-day eventing in London 2012. So spectacular, the view with gorgeous Greenwich behind the arena in the sunshine was memorable. Versailles will be stunning, too. Have a fabulous trip.

My son in law loves the Olympics and has bought loads of tickets. I have been invited to choose an event. Like you, dressage would be my choice and Versailles is a wonderful venue. I saw dressage at Greenwich in 2012.
But, Paris is very hot at that time of year and I feel, at my age, it probably isn't wise. So, I'll probably let my granddaughter take a friend and watch on TV. Have a really lovely time.

We were lucky enough to be in the main stadium for the first day of the athletics in 2012. We have great memories of the three days we spent in London at that time - the atmosphere was just electric. We are police family and two of our young ones were drafted down to London for the duration - one was lucky enough to escort David Beckham onto the boat that took him and the Olympic torch to the opening ceremony (he was lovely, apparently - I would have expected no less!).

Sadly we didn’t get tickets this time so we’ll just be watching the TV coverage, but I’m still looking forward to it. Have a wonderful time!

Before 2012, I moaned about the cost, moaned about the use of the land, moaned about the disruption, moaned about the price of tickets. In fact I moaned.

Opening ceremony

Total convert😄😄. Loved every single second of the whole two weeks. Jumped for joy, cried with pride and smiled in admiration.

I wish those two weeks could be bottled in some way so I could open them up and relive them. It was joyous. Even the weather behaved. I went in the garden for a short while one day, came back in and said jokingly to DH ‘ I suppose we’ve won a couple more gold medals while I’ve been outside’. And we had! Unfortunately it’s been downhill all the way since then .

I had dinner yesterday evening with a friend here in France who is a secondary school teacher. She said that much of the curriculum in school for the coming academic year will be centered around the Olympic Games. She is looking forward to it.
