They are still available in some public toilets in Canada.I did try using them during covid but found they got all twisted and fell into the loo before I could sit down!*Serendipity22*, you keep on doing what you do if it makes you feel safe. I like the idea of the little pouch you made specifically to carry the covers around.

Thank you, yes I made a fancy little pouch especially for them, slip it in my bag and visits to public toilets are hassle free.

Disposable loo seat covers are known in the US as ‘ass gaskets’. 🤣🤣.

They were still in evidence on my last visit in March although more places had sprays that could be used on toilet paper to wipe the seat first.

I've always wondered what people are doing when I hear them pulling streams and streams of loo paper out - now I know.

I'm with you on this Serendipity22. Countless times I have gone into a public loo and the seats are splashed with goodness knows what so please don't try to convince me that there's no cross contamination risk GNetters!

I have seen the loo seat covers in the USA, in a dispenser at the back of the loo - and they are flushable too.

'DolphinDaisy' I agree I hate the "hoverers' who leave the seat wet, and I have sometimes sat on it before realising. It is really inconsiderate to leave it like that. Agree with everyone above, no need to panic about germs on loo seats (even other peoples urine is sterile unless they have an infection, and it won't go through the skin), just wash your hands properly afterwards. But I have to confess if I have sat on a wet seat, a shower when I get home is needed!

Yes I too never touch the door handles because some woman don't bother to wash their hands.....

It is the handles to get into the toilet area and the toilet door itself where germs lurk. I try using my foot to push open entrance door and use paper hand towel to do the reverse when leaving.

The smell of the loos in our local shopping mall makes me really nauseous .
On entering a cubicle I give it a quick squirt with some cheap scent from the Poundshop.
If the seat is often covered in urine or worse and I use loo paper to cover it as I can't squat !

Many women "hover" when using public loos some with poor aim resulting in wet seats, pity the next occupant who sits on the seat. Most airlines provide paper seat covers on long haul flights and I always use them.

Yes I remember being in a public toilet once or twice and there were there alongside the toilet paper.... maybe it was in Harrods hahahahaha....

If they were of any use hospitals would provide them.

Touching handles, trolleys and eating out are far more risky.

Some wipes are sold as “flushable” - they aren’t
And fatbergs, blocked drains and sewers are an ever-increasing problem. I would be very wary of adding to them

I sit on my hands (usually those seats are cold!). And then thoroughly wash hands afterwards. I carry a small towel in my bag and pull the corner out before I go into the loo so that I can use it without having to touch anything else first.

As for putting the lid down before flushing - public loos don't have lids, do they?

I have read that too. There are more germs on keyboards remotes and phones than on a toilet seat. I still hover however.

I remember reading a while back that studies have shown there are more germs on the average mobile phone than on toilet seats.
Assuming this is not a wind up, I do think you are worrying unnecessarily.

Talking of public toilets, what always surprises me so much is how few people put the lid down before flushing. I always do, at home as well as when I’m out, yet I seem to be in the minority.

Waste of money and effort. Infection risk is zilch.

Disposable gloves- that’s the solution!

Presumably when you pick this item up from the loo seat any germs from the seat transfer to your hands.

Waste of your money and your worry. You can’t catch things from toilet seats.
