When we could walk more (I mean a good walk, not a 20 mile hike), we'd walk every other morning, relax in the afternoon locally then go on a trip on the alternate days - which probably included some walking anyway.

No big deal! You say you are having a lovely time, great, just compromise on how much walking you are able to do.

Just say NO and mean it. My husband finally got the message years ago when I would drop him off at the start of a walk and I would take the DDs and play on a beach or a big house garden and he walked to us.
He knows now after I had very painful infected blisters on my insteps when I barely got to work . The wife does not like walking and cannot find walking shoes that fit skinny feet.
He goes at least once a week for a long walk and does an extra long one every year like "The Coast to Coast."
I get a day of peace and contentment or a week.

I would find a lovely little tea shop/bistro and settle down with a good book and let your DH yomp away…

There is new research showing an increase in risk of ovarian cancer among women who regularly use talcum powder.
I stopped using it years ago and I believe this is why we no longer use it on babies, to prevent nappy rash.

Mary You can buy talc-free ‘talc’ now, it’s made with corn starch.

A while ago it was reported on here that there was a shortage of corn flour in the shops, and I put it down to it being used as an ingredient in alternative talc.

I’ve just Googled the chub rub shorts at The Bloomer Company, and unfortunately they are all made of polyamide.
Polyamide is similar to polyester and isn’t skin friendly to wear in warm weather.

Walking is good for you. GP’s recommend it and lots of walking groups have been set up. A brisk walk helps the cardio vascular system. Any walk however needs to take into account how fit and able you are. I don’t think a 20 mile route march would be recommended for you Biscuitmuncher but some easier shorter walks could be beneficial for your health. You do need to get a decent pair of lightweight walking shoes and a walking pole could be helpful. Why not join a local group at home that is suitable for you? Then join dh for shorter walks but leave the longer ones for him unless you feel able.

Is your husband perhaps trying to get you a bit fitter?

I can't agree that a holiday is just for sitting eating and drinking wine.A week of that and I feel unfit.I love to walk and while ever I'm fit enough love to explore new areas.The day will come when I can't. But my lovely DH is riddled with arthritis and really struggles. So we compromise. I find a walk the me and the dogs where there's something of interest for him.Historic sites eg
He drops me off and does his own thing.Sometimes he reads in a cafe.But then we eat and drink wine in the evening together. Or I do a short walk some days and we do something together. He would love to do long walks but just can't sadly.

They are soft, cool, comfortable and as essential for the summer as is my wardrobe of linen and cotton dresses Fanny.
I hate the heat and they are fab.
I’m guessing you haven’t tried them… 🩲

This is simple to resolve; put on your big girl pants, stand your ground and just tell him you would rather do xxx or yyy and he is welcome to go off and do all the walking he wants to do. Specify a meeting point and time for later on and do ensure he has a mobile phone and water with him......just in case.

I recently stupidly bought chub rubs and capris from Snag, and I can’t wear them

Just a note on the chub rub, which is a problem familiar to runners when it’s hot and you sweat more.

Chapsticks of any brand work to stop inner thighs chaffing, wether on each other or on Lycra clothing, and handy to carry with you. If my balance ever settles down well enough to allow me to go running (more like gallumphing) again I will carry one in my bumbag.

I don't mind a bit of walking just not pointless pavement pounding it's just so boring

Ramblers, U3A, and some groups go on walking holidays too.
You could book a holiday that suits you while your DH is off with a walking group.

Walking is good for you, yes, but it's not always physically possible.
