When was the last time that you truly felt excited by something? I was thinking this yesterday and though I am pleased about certain things I don’t get excited about anything, is it an age thing? The last time I felt truly excited was in 2004!! we were very fortunate to be on the maiden voyage of Queen Mary 2 and I looked forward to it for ages. We had already had our first grandchild, that too was exciting, we have had four more since, though I was pleased but not exactly excited. Love to hear your thoughts.

Before every holiday, I have to take deep breaths to calm down, otherwise my excitement turns to anxiety. My two youngest granddaughters were performing on stage at the recent Eisteddfod and my heart was thudding with excitement.

I think now, for me, it is more ‘delighted’ than ‘excited’, although I’m not ruling that feeling out. Who knows what is in store? I like to think that I’m more inclined to be positive, although I do get a bit down at times, particularly during the Winter months when the days are short and it’s too wet/cold to be in the garden. My children and grandchildren bring me great joy, along with my sisters, nieces & nephews, also friends and our family dogs. In the past there was much excitement in my life! 😉

Travelling to London overnight and standing on the Mall to watch the Coronation parade was exciting for me. Everyone was friendly and good humoured despite the rain. It was great to feel part of such a historic event.

I’ve not long squealed with joy.
I was doing some machining so didn’t know that OH was cooking Rhubarb with Apples topped with a dash of amaretto.
Then to top it off he’d peeled a white Magnum, crushed the white shell over the peeled magnum and Rhubarb.

I am on my way…

When I see a newt or a frog in my wildlife pond, I get so excited I nearly fall in!! 🐸🐸🐸

I was just 2 minutes ago delighted to find a toad in my front garden... somewhere I've not seem one before. There are several in the back garden (and lots of frogs) - but the back has a pond and is much more shady.

The last time I was truly excited was when our first grandchild was born - 30 years ago. My DH was killed in a road accident the next year and my capacity for feelings of joy and excitement died with him. I just go along with what's happening and experience enjoyment, happiness on occasion, contentment even, so that's not bad is it.

Wildflowers appearing more and more profusely each year in my garden excite me, mainly because of the patience needed to get the conditions right over several years I think.

I completely agree. I have a whole patch of phacelia for the bees and it is growing beautifully into flower. I also got excited when the salvia hotlips seeds I took last year have grown this year into strapping plants. Simple things but so satisfying.

I don't get very excited - or sad - these days. I feel that I'm sailing on calm seas in my old age. I really do prefer it to all the dramatic ups and downs of my younger life. There's a lot to be said for just being content, pleased and mildly amused by life - most of the time.

I felt really excited back in December when my DH agreed to us getting a puppy. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt so happy!

It's been years since I felt excited about anything. Nice thinks happen but I can't say I feel excited.
About 30 years ago we had our first trip to Venice. We couldn't afford to stay there that time so stayed in Lido De Jesolo and went over on a boat. I never imagined in a million years I would see Venice and as the boat neared St Marks Square and I could see the gondolas bobbing about in the water, my heart was pounding. It was magical. We have stayed in Venice a few times since then and it's never lost its magic for me.

In our youth we used to drive round Europe in a Morris 1000 Traveller and we always used to camp at Lido de Jesolo. How I’d love to go to Venice again.

Taichinan, I’m very sorry to hear about your DH.

I don’t get excited any more. I get quite anxious when social experiences are about to happen. At one time I avoided all except those with immediate family. Now I go along with things and am pleasantly surprised when I enjoy them.
I don’t seek excitement. It hasn’t led to great outcomes in the past. I seek emotional contentment and mental. stimulation.

I was last very excited about my younger son’s ALevel results, but that was a while ago - he’s almost 49! They meant he got into the Cambridge college he wanted. I wasn’t nearly so excited about the birth of my grandchildren!

In the mid 60 s while on holiday at lido de jesolo I caught a boat to Venice.
I was enchanted with it all and it was the first of repeat visits since, The best one was when we stayed in a small hotel for a few nights rather than just day trips. Venice’s by night when the tourists have left is wonderfully atmospheric.
It’s still a great favourite and I like to think if I were to visit again I would be excited.

Thank you for all your interesting replies.
I’ve just had a milestone birthday, no major celebrations, by choice.
I’m now off to reactivate my excitement button!😀

Belated Happy birthday to you Hildegarde. flowers

I am having a new front door soon. I would be excited if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m convinced that something will go horribly wrong and I’m going to have to have lots of plastering etc done afterwards. But I’ve wanted a new front door for decades. Could never decide on the style of door that I wanted but really happy with what I’ve chosen.

I would love to go back too MayBee. Perhaps we will (you too).

Allegretto Tue 06-Jun-23 11:56:57

I feel excitement every time I’m arriving at my daughter’s house or when they arrive to visit me, as I just love seeing my grandchildren. It’s not the same level of excitement as I felt at the times of their births, but it’s excitement all the same. I also get excited about going on holiday (though that is always tinged with a touch of anxiety too).

I still use the plastic camping plate that we used to take with us! There were two but one of them disintegrated! I had the best ice cream I’ve ever had in Venice. One thing that does worry me is that they always sprayed the camp site with some sort of insect repellent every evening and it smelt very toxic. Mind you, the mozzies in that area were beyond anything. We took the kids on a grand tour when they were in their teens and our daughter got bitten ( they do seem to prefer some people to others). For some reason, when I have a mozzie bite it seems to release endorphins in my body because it makes me think back to those holidays!

JackyB Tue 06-Jun-23 18:16:16

I don't think I've ever been excited about anything not even as a child. As a mother of young children, holidays were never anything to be pleased about. It meant doing all the same chores as at home only under more difficult conditions (We always camped)

Hetty58 Sailing on a calm sea sounds wonderful. Just what I thought retirement would be like. In reality is anything but !

Two days ago, when I found two frogs had made their home in my new pond. I sat and watched them for ages. And this morning when I found a baby grasshopper, a teeny weeny thing, on a leaf on my patio.

I’ve got a hedgehog that visits my front garden at night. Last night I went outside to put the milk bottles out and there he was. He doesn’t seem very keen on the hedgehog food I’ve been putting out but I make sure there’s fresh water for him. And I’ve put a hedgehog house under some shrubs so it’s well protected. But the most exciting thing that happened to me last year when I was by the sea was to see two otters cross the road late at night. I was buzzing for ages afterwards and have been boring people with it ever since. I wasn’t 100% sure that they were otters so I posted on an otter Facebook page, only giving a very vague location ( some people don't like otters) and someone told me immediately exactly where I was because that’s where he sees them. To be honest 8 or so months later it still lifts my spirits when I think about it. The only downside is that I now worry about them being hit by a car: people speed terribly on that stretch of road. Any contact with wild animals thrills me, especially seeing dolphins. Which reminds me that I must get some better binoculars.
