When was the last time that you truly felt excited by something? I was thinking this yesterday and though I am pleased about certain things I don’t get excited about anything, is it an age thing? The last time I felt truly excited was in 2004!! we were very fortunate to be on the maiden voyage of Queen Mary 2 and I looked forward to it for ages. We had already had our first grandchild, that too was exciting, we have had four more since, though I was pleased but not exactly excited. Love to hear your thoughts.

Excited - not for many a year sadly ... pleased to see my newborn granddaughters etc, and do get a thrill at the races, but not been since 2020 - yes I was at the super spreader event at Cheltenham! Get a thrill from picking a 100/1 winner, which I have done a few times now, but as I only put a quid each way on it it doesn't get me that much!

But 'excited', definitely not since at least the late 1980's!!

Watching our lovely daughter re-marrying as a widow.

She seems so excited, as are her grown children and grandchildren. After her 'Mum works hard wedding' ended - I'm excited as well.

If life feels a bit stale and in need of re-jigging I can recommend doing the 'Artists Way in retirement' by Julia Cameron. It will help reassess what priorities and goals in life are important to you, especially as you age. My u3a are doing it over the summer break, I can't wait to discover what I still really want to do at 76.

Got me thinking - no, I don't get excited these days. I look forward to things sometimes but never with that feeling that I can't wait, not like when I was a child. I'm not particularly worried about unpleasent things either, I sleep well enough before something like a root filling at the dentists. I think I'm stuck too much in the moment to get excited for good or bad. Odd, getting older...

I squealed with excitement when a friend got a full set of dressage tickets for the Paris Olympics and asked me to go with her. OH said I had a grin from ear to ear all day. I am happy about lots of things in my life but this was so unexpected. I'm still feeling pretty excited although it's nearly 14 months away!

Sooo (secretly) excited (for nearly a year!!!) when I managed to, secretly, book hubby on our first cruise…got him right to the side of the boat (P and O Arora) after telling him we were going to spend New Year at a hotel as a treat fir his birthday……even on the dockside kept up the pretence that we were catching the ferry to the Isle of Whight. Brother and Sis in law met us there and joined in the ‘surprise reveal.’
Hubby always said he never fancied a cruise. 2 days in, of our 5 day cruise across the Channel and North Sea, HE booked a second cruise!! Still get frisson of excitment just thinking about it

What might be ordinary, mundane things for most are things that are the most pleasant, fun and exciting things for me: can be nature, a family/friend event, a travel opportunity, a new home, a pet, Christmas coming, your birthday, going out to eat a fabulous place, etc.

I’m not an excitable person as such, but feel blessed that I’m of a positive nature and see the up ⬆️ side to most things.

What would be a trigger to get me really excited? Something like - a Palace Coup in the Kremlin. THAT would do it!

^ I guess it’s a lot to do with how we define excitement.^ - This is the nubs of it, Kayteetay1.

For me, to call it "excitement" it probably has to have a measure of adrenalin/risk...

EEJit - thinking of you. Yes, that would have been exciting.

Amalegra, that sounds so sad. Here's a (((hug))) and some flowers.

Excitement beyond belief in that I will be meeting up with my bestie next week when we will celebrate 64 years since we first met. I'm keeping it under control - just. Unfortunately she hasn't done as well as me health wise but we won't let that hinder our joy. Viva friendship!

I envy you Foxie8. Just watching dressage on the television often chokes me up.

This afternoon I wouldn’t say excited but I was thrilled to see that the worrying high pitched bird sounds I’d been hearing were made by a family of wrens being fed. They were in the hedge next to me and one baby even hopped round the edge of a flowerpot just a few feet away from me. Wonderful!

Wow Eejit….how incredibly fortunate 😀

September 2022 - when we went on the Rocky Mountaineer, Gold Leaf from Vancouver to Banff. We'd had an amazing trip through America and Canada but this was the reason I'd come this far. Beyond excited and it lived up to expectations.

Was excited a couple of weeks ago to see John Fogerty play (Creedence Clearwater Revival). Still buzzing to be honest. Also, get very excited when there's a thunder storm. Im ridiculously excited if I'm not working and can watch and track it.

I was over the moon when a complete stranger contacted me with a photo of my maternal grandfather. He died aged 32 when my mother was 7 and she never had a picture of him. There he was,a handsome young man in his early twenties, probably a photo taken when he was courting Grandma and looking so, so different from how I'd imagined him.

Last November when I went on my first Caribbean Cruise.

I’m a happy person generally and have had many occasions to be so (holidays, family events etc).

But that feeling of actual excitement for me always comes with a big dollop of surprise. The announcement of a pregnancy or wedding rather than the event itself (delightful though that is). Getting a “Congratulations, you have won…” message that isn’t a scam. grin

A photo of my maternal grandparents would do it for me too, chicken, as I’ve never seen one and am fairly certain I never will.

EEJit, how wonderful. thanks

Same as Bella23…… last time I was over the moon with excitement was a couple of months ago, when my DH finally passed his PhD Viva (oral exam). It had been a long and rocky road and we were pinching ourselves that evening that he’d actually reached the end of it! As we both had Covid (he’d had to do it on Zoom) we couldn’t go out to celebrate but have since!!

Yesterday when a very young spotted woodpecker landed on the roof outside the bedroom window. I'd been watching it walking around on the drive by the house, chirping away, and could see a parent in the oak tree calling it so was a bit surprised when it suddenly flew in the opposite direction and landed 12 inches from my nose. Still had lots of fluffy, chick feathers so probably only recently fledged.

Last Wednesday, when relatives from Michigan came to visit us for the first time. I get excited about people and events all the time!!!

Bidding on online auctions (not Ebay I mean real time online auctions) is exciting because you never know what will happen. A couple of times the internet has gone down. Grrrr. Sometimes I have to fight for it and dont get what Im after because the bidding goes too high. Other times I get it for a knockdown price.

I am a very serious bidder and I dis-connect the door bell and switch off the phone to minimise distractions. I will also put off visitors to another day if they are likely to coincide. Many of the auctions are in the USA so they take place late evening. There is something very surreal about bidding for stuff at 2 am.

Its the nearest I come to gambling.

Ditto …tho I wouldn’t dream of bidding in the US - the postage costs from any UK Auction wins alone plus Buyer’s Premium, etc, are enough to dampen any excitement!
But the excitement and HOPE for a bargain are always there!

When was the last time I was excited about something? today actually and my excitement was aimed at a new plastic supermarket trolley.

I will explain the background.

I feel 'normal' to breeze about the aisles of supermarkets with a trolley as my support ( wheeling my walking stick about in the trolley ) but more often than not I get a trolley with a mind of its own and while I push it towards the wine the blasted thing heads in the direction of the bog roll !!!!!!

Today I parked the car next to the outside trolley park and noticed a line of smart new grey plastic trolleys, I thought What's this! New plastic trolleys!

I entered the supermarket pushing a very 'obedient' trolley, the shopping experience was wonderful,i even breezed up and down aisles that I didn't really NEED to venture up and down, remarkable. So that plastic trolley brought forth excitement..
