Hate summer

I know we've not had a lot of nice weather but I just feel completely drained. I've no energy at all , I just want to sleep. Anyone else the same

I managed my hayfever at first but had to take an antihistamine two days ago. I slept on and off for 24 hrs! They all affect me this way.
I remember one winter when I had been sleepless for a few nights. The pharmasist wasn't at all happy when I asked for hay fever tablets in winter!

I love the summer months for the long, light days and wearing less clothes. However, I don't like it too hot and airless as it is then difficult for my Boxer dog, being short nosed. Walks in the very early morning (young deer joined me the other day) and late evening when it is cooler. We have still got quite a cold wind here in the Brecon Beacons, but just nice in sheltered spots.

Like germanshepherdsmum, I too live in North Norfolk. I don't like heatwaves, never have, but whilst the rest of the country seems to be having summer weather, here the warmest it's been to date is 15°. No chance of overheating in that 😂

Jane we are lucky if we get two months We are still freezing here on the east coast although the sun has come out today but the east wind is still so cold I would so love to warm my bones up all I hear on the tv/ radio are heat warnings and we still have our hot water bottles and jumpers on
I LOOOOOVE SUMMER if we ever get it here

Amalegra Fri 09-Jun-23 13:38:07

I love all the seasons of the year and right now I am really enjoying summer and the hot weather. Yes, it is a bind keeping cool sometimes, but I remember struggling to keep warm in the winter while dreading my heating bill! We have bright early mornings and long lazy evenings which cheer my soul. I realise for some it is a trial of endurance (my mum felt that way as she got older) but for me it is joy and freedom. But come September, I’ll be happily contemplating the beauty of Autumn and looking forward to the season of goodwill (won’t mention the ‘C’ word!).

love the summer we only get 2 months sun here yet folk complain when 10 months are grey! at least you save on energy bills when its hot

made in Yorkshire pop into Sainsbugs and look at nearly all summer dresses. Empire line, generous spacious layers, and flattering puff sleeves to elbow.
Current ‘in’ wear. Costs £25-35

Greciangirl Fri 09-Jun-23 13:28:43

I love summer.
Free heating.
Leave vest off.
Peg washing on line outside.

Remember April.? It rained practically nonstop.

Give me summer any day.

I dread hot weather, just don’t understand the appeal. I don’t like being woken at 4.30 a.m. by the light, and I prefer it dark by about 7 or 8 pm. I also much prefer winter clothes (too old now to look good in summer ones). So, I don’t like summer!

Agreed! Anything more than 21/22*C and I am a sweaty mess!

Also prefer the colder weather as I can cover up - when you’ve looked 8 months pregnant for 15 years, summer clothes don’t do it!

One bonus has been that my Lupin and Philadelphus are magnificent!

I love the summer, just seems so long in getting started.
Remember as a child in the ‘50’s and 60’s the long hot summers, they seemed to go on for months.
We get a few days of hot weather now and everyone screams of global warming. More like we’re heading for another ice age imo.

knspol Fri 09-Jun-23 12:59:13

Used to love hot summer days except for the hayfever but for last few years I find the heat pretty hard to cope with, another old age thing I expect. Spring is my favourite season now.

HeavenLeigh Fri 09-Jun-23 12:44:39

I’m immunosupressed and although used to love the sun I just can’t go out in it over 20 degrees as really drains me and makes me feel nauseous and dizzy I love it though for hanging the washing on the line

Aveline Fri 09-Jun-23 12:38:10

I like crisp sunny days in the Autumn. I love it when the clocks go back. I can pile on layers if it gets cold. In the sweltering heat I can't take enough clothes off (eek!) But still too hot.
I follow advice from hotter climates and open windows only in the early morning when the air is cooler then shut them and lower blinds for the day.

Philippa111 Fri 09-Jun-23 12:14:03

I love summer. I feel free and alive. Not all bundled up in several layers. I live in Scotland where in reality winter can last a very long time. All sun and heat and light very welcome here as we don’t get enough of it! In autumn when I have to put socks on again my heart sinks!

missdeke Fri 09-Jun-23 12:09:28

I always feel grim in the winter and can't wait for the hot summer days. I need a summer like last year's every year just to help me get through the grey, cold days of winter.

You took the words out of my mouth.

I find extreme temperatures difficult to cope with, the cold and frost of winter are miserable and the heat of summer is draining. It's a battle to stay comfortable in my new build house which has just one reception room which faces south.

Apparently splashing cold water on the patio (as they do on the continent) and having the curtains closed is meant to be cooling but it evaporates so quickly I'm not sure it actually does anything. Temperate temperatures are better for me and I suspect many others.

I was feeling really drained and tired lately and I just battled through it as usual. I had a blood test recently followed by a phone appointment with a GP. He said I was very low on vitamin D and that can account for not only aches and pains, tiredness and low moods but also other complaints. He has put me on a 7 week booster course (on prescription) and thereafter I have to take a maintenance dose which I can get from Amazon £5 for a years supply. Began taking it about 10 days ago and I do feel a lot better in terms of "mood" and my arthritic knees do feel a little better.

My nephew who uses the same surgery also got prescribed them a few months ago. Doc said he has had to prescribe a lot of these as many people who stayed in during the pandemic have simply not got into the habit of going out again so are missing out on sunlight.

Ah, so pleased to see so many anti-summer posts! (Which is sad in itself!) I hate showing my body now - hell, I try to avoid even looking at it in the mirror! So hot days bring misery. I am enjoying the light, although I also love it when the evenings draw in. And I dread having to work in temperatures like they were last summer, in front of a computer giving off heat. I also find extreme heat scary now, as it reminds me of global warming. And those horrible fires last year! Dry days and sun are lovely tho' and I've enjoyed the cool, fresh spring. Not long now till September!

Didolizzy Fri 09-Jun-23 11:29:45

Me!!! I’ve got reverse SAD syndrome. It is a thing apparently. I want to hibernate in the summer. No bodily thermostat. Hot even in winter but the cold air makes me feel much better. Don’t like the light nights either. Roll on autumn .

homefarm Fri 09-Jun-23 11:22:10

Absolutely

hollysteers Thu 08-Jun-23 09:52:28

I feel the cold a lot, so summer suits me very well. Here in the northwest, the temperature has been just perfect, day after day of clear skies, sun and a light breeze. Months of this would suit me down to the ground and I agree about saving on heating.
Sorry, but Scotland or the east coast would not suit me at all!

However I have noticed in the past, if I have been depressed or in low spirits, long sunny days have made me feel worse, the contrast between my mood and the brightness being highlighted.

Bridie22 Thu 08-Jun-23 09:31:51

Aveline... I m most certainly not being virtuous about not being to afford to heat my home in the winter let alone midsummer!
I joined the discussion just to offer an opposite to " I hate summer".

sodapop Thu 08-Jun-23 09:08:26

Complaining about the weather is a great British tradition foxygloves

I dislike the heat so autumn and winter are my favourite seasons. As Aveline said each to their own.

Marydoll Thu 08-Jun-23 09:06:38

I don't think people are being virtuous, just stating a reason or giving an opinion, why some posters may be glad the weather is hot.
