A very big thank you to all for your good wishes, it really does mean a lot
I’ve just heard from DH, he’s had his surgery now and is back in his room, just ordered lunch! . All went well, not even a general anaesthetic but a spinal block instead. I’m going along this afternoon to see how he’s doing
Thanks again all x

Borrheid, gosh that triggered some memories about Highers and all the angst, which went with it.

I watched a programme with Susan Calman, about the Isle of Man. That's where our Irish doctor friend move to, to escape the stress of the NHS.
Some very happy memories were triggered of our time as friends.

Good Morning from a cold , dull and breezy Co Armagh
Walked home from Mass with my friend from across the road , she is so worried about her poorly daughter, I made coffee and chatted ,
No idea how the subject came round but I ended up getting my wedding dress and album out , at least it took her mind off worries for a wee while ,
My dress was in the dressing up box for years , I’ve no ide why I still have it 😆😆😆

Morning from sunny (at last) Kent. Marydoll now I am wondering who it was that you met. I was saying to DH yday that 50 years ago I was sitting my Highers and leaving school in a few weeks. Doesn’t seem possible. 44 of those years living in London & the south east. Wouldn’t have predicted that in ‘73. Waiting for a phone call from my doctor, follow up to econsult of two weeks ago. Not coping well with changed health - had a panic attack at the dentist yday. Most unusual for me, dentist has never bothered me. A friend took me as DH is on early shift this week- alarm goes off at 05:00! Can’t settle back to sleep so getting up feeling really tired. I wish I could speak to someone who also has BVH. Doctor has referred me to a counsellor and a social Presciber- not sure what will come of that. Needless to say there is a waiting list for these. Another quiet day planned, reading and waiting for phone calls re appointments. DH will be home at 17:00 so at least I will have company this evening.
Hugs to all that are poorly especially Marydoll !

Good morning from sunny West Sussex. I should be down at the allotment with DH before it gets too hot but I have been faffing around here, trying to tidy up a bit (a lost cause).

Marydoll thank you for the suggestion of a jam maker. I may take it up someday but at the moment, when I have fruit it is in quite large quantities and I like to be able to keep it in a cool place and take to church/charity events, family, and friends, during the year. So I must set timers and alarms to stop me forgetting where I’ve got to and just pay attention!

I collected my plants from the garden centre and added a few more while I was there. I then had to visit the large charity warehouse next door to it where I found a pretty little brass bell which I think 8 shear old DGD will like. Now I have to find something for her sister 🙂. I called at another charity shop beside M&S Foodstore and acquired a very tall mug with the shipping forecast areas and Beaufort scale on it that I think DSiL will love but DD2 will regard as clutter. It won’t fit in their kitchen mug drawer or in the dishwasher. Maybe it can be (another) pen pot. It is a Dunoon stoneware one.

Whitewavemark, you’ve had a bad time. I’m glad you are now pain-free and have the cause and solution.
Brook, I hope all goes well for your DH.
Grandmattie, your room is looking good but what a faff at IKEA. I did laugh (having had similar experience there myself) 🤭
Mizuna, I also laughed over ‘SplintingandBracing*. It sounds like a title for a radio 4 comedy.
Welcome Rosesand lilac. Look forward to hearing about your days.

Coffee’s ready!

Good morning from a hazy but very warm day in Cyprus.
A good trip over spoilt by our phone taking us all around the small villages to get to our Villa, it was very dark, not much street lighting and all the roadsigns were in Greek! Lack of lighting meant I couldn’t read the instructions I had from the Villa Company.
Anyway we got here eventually, but by then I was very car sick, MrOops went out to fetch some essentials (mainly water) and we will pop out again late this afternoon, for some fresh bits, until then we are sitting by the pool with our books.
With a drink.
GM I think that we should be handed an instruction leaflet to go shopping in IKEA as well as for the goods we buy there!

Hope everyone has a good day and gets some warmth and sunshine.
Hope all those with illness start to feel a bit better.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Taichinan Thu 08-Jun-23 10:56:04

Good morning all. You will not be surprised to learn that it is grey and chilly on the Angus coast 😉
BUT - what a glorious night it was last night! I couldn't sleep so sat up and watched the sun travel from west to east just below the horizon and carrying with it a beautiful rosy glow. I went to bed at about 3am - no dark at all at this time of year! But the moment I took my eye off it, the cloud must have scurried back in.
We're not forecast the scorchio weather that a lot of you will be getting from now on, but it is due to get a bit warmer and that will do me.
Welcome Roseandlilac - what a fragrant name and very appropriate for this time of year! I have a white lilac providing a glorious perfume just by my back door, then a little further on is a bed of lily of the valley, followed by copious amounts of honeysuckle over the archway into the end garden and over the garage roof. A joy to the senses.
And she's done it!! DGD3 has passed her driving test this morning, first time. DD is now busy with the insurance company, and then freedom all round. And worry!
Brook I hope all goes well with your DH's knee surgery today flowers
Well done grandmattie!
Take care of yourself Grandmabatty flowers.
Must go now as the sun is peeping through the cloud and there's a suggestion of blue sky. Have a good day all x

I hope Mick wears a mask when he's out and about.
I'm curious about your jam maker Marydoll is it like a soup maker or a bread maker? --does it top and tail gooseberries?--

*Grammaretto, it was half price, when I bought it.

Jammaker

That looks interesting, Marydoll - but it only makes a few jars at a time? And you have to use up the jam fairly quickly / it doesn’t store well?

I have no problems storing it.

Good morning everybody from sunny Lancashire. I’m late to the thread today, MrB and I drank our morning tea in the garden, watching the birds emptying the newly filled bird feeders. An interesting effect of my anti-glare UV blocking sunglasses is that I can see all the tiny creatures in the garden pond . My treated left eye is looking really good now and it has improved my field of vision.

Have a good day all 🌻🌻🌻

Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull it’s dull and chilly yet again though it’s getting warmer from Saturday.
It’s been ‘neither nout nor summat’ as we say for a good few days. No rain so everything is dry no wind and no real sun for a while and chilly.

Today I am meeting my daughter at the Beverley Racecourse(hoping I don’t encounter a herd of cows again) we are having a long walk then going for lunch. It’s nice to have my girl to myself for a good chat.

I think we can finally start applying for our visas for China but my god they just about want our blood group. We definately need help from a visa agent and you have to have your flights bought before you can even apply!

Hoping everyone has a good day. Thoughts to you all and especially those with illness and family stress. 🌻🌻

Another chilly, grey day in Co Durham. Please send some sun our way, those who have it.
Your room looks lovely gMattie. IKEA is my idea of hell 😀.
👋 RoseandLilac.
Ginny, enjoy Bath, beautiful city.
Llfl, wish London was closer to me. I love it.
Brook, hope all goes smoothly for your dh.
Glad the NHS is looking after you.
You ladies have such busy, interesting lives. I feel quite boring.
Hope everyone has a good day.

GrannySomerset Thu 08-Jun-23 10:12:50

Somehow I have done half a day’s work by 10.00 - bed changing and laundry out on the line, several phone calls to make various arrangements - how did just living become such hard work? However, nothing planned for the rest of the day but reading and, if the spirit decides to move me, some long overdue clothes sorting. Like others, I need to admit that some things will never fit again and are not only taking up space but could be useful to someone else.

Good morning all from cloudy, chilly Harrogate.
Welcome Rosesandlilac hope we will hear more from you.
Your new suite looks lovely GrandMattie but what a palaver in Ikea. Good to see you back Whitewavemark good to know you are feeling better. Hope it goes well for your DH Brook
Today, not sure I will get everything done that's planned. I await my Sainsburies Shop, if it comes promptly as it frequently does, my friend will take me to the respiratory group for 10.30am, then DH wants me to attend the surgery with him at 12.20, it's in an outlying places which we are not familiar with so he will have to pick me up at 11.30am, and we'll spend the afternoon afterwards in Wetherby. Then home and zooming tonight and find out how my DBIL is doing in Edinburgh Hospital, we were supposed to be visiting her next weekend but have booked into a Premier Inn. instead. If she's available we can see her, if not we will explore that part of Scotland until we go up to Prestwick!
Have the best day possible, folks!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 08-Jun-23 09:30:27

Sorry I really should have explained that the excruciating pain has in the end nothing to do with antibiotic allergy but gallstones!!

So one x-ray, one scan, a couple of visits to A&E and morphine and I’m all sorted for a gallbladder extraction.

Such a relief to be pain free though. It becomes all-consuming, particularly if you can’t sleep. But I’ve now had 2 pain free nights and feeling more myself! Plus fat free diet until the operation.

Good old NHS, but my goodness I’ve seen it from bottom up and it is creaking - no doubt about it.

Good morning from a grey W Kent. Off to art group this morning and I must wash some blinds this afternoon. A bit worried after meeting DF yesterday as she retold me stories from the week before twice, she is under a bit of stress at present so just hope it is that.
Welcome to RosesandLilac.
Best wishes to all those dealing with health matters and problems.

Good morning everyone from a brightening Northampton; hope this sunshine lasts!
Sainsbury's delivery shortly so must shower and dress, and make sure I have the bags ready.
Then an early lunch and off to dance classes.

Cut the front grass yesterday after I got back from the well-being cafe, and also trimmed the hedge bordering my drive. Looks much tidier. I do it with shears as I don't trust myself with an electric/battery hedge trimmer! I have visions of me losing a limb!

There was a surfeit of cake yesterday at the cafe and they were begging for people to take some home,.so after demolishing a slice of coffee cake while I was there, I can home with a large slice of lemon drizzle, which will go down well after dance classes today.

Wishing all a fine sunshiney day.

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast.
Took the bus into town yesterday for a change and enjoyed the lunchtime concert, saxophonist and piano, although jazz is not my thing. Sat with old pianist friend who now has severe arthritis in his hands and cannot play at all, cruel. I was amused by a chap along the front row leaning back in his seat, his t shirt riding up exposing his big paunch. Not a pretty sight…Then a delicious panini in our Arts Centre cafe.

House stuff today, first day this week without going out.
Welcome RosesandLilac and all the best for your husband’s op Brook

harrigran Thu 08-Jun-23 09:04:43

Good morning from a cool and overcast NE, heating is on again.
I do think you should listen to our concerns about staying home before your operation Mick. Several of us have been in that position and know what it takes to recover.
Day to myself today as shopping was done last night except for a cucumber which I could not find, not a salad without.
Have a good day all.

Marydoll Thu 08-Jun-23 08:52:05

Georgesgran, I too have concerns about Mick, putting himself at risk, despite all our advice. sad

Jaxjacky Thu 08-Jun-23 08:50:34

Morning from sun in S Hants, 25 due today, so the shorts are on.
Welcome RosesandLilac I’ve got brassicas to put in and net up.
Pleased you’re getting sorted WWM2 you sound relieved.
All the best for your husband’s op brook I hope you’re practicing counting to 10 under your breath!
I’m taking a friend out for her birthday lunch today, washing to do and a couple of phone calls to make.
Enjoy your day, thoughts with those under par 🦩🦩

Good morning from Durham. Another cool start with 100% grey cloud cover.
Chiropodist this morning, then onto Tesco - I shall need a jumper (again!).
Gardeners due this afternoon, then a dog walk later.
Still awaiting a refund from Scottish Power from March - when calls are eventually answered, it’s in hand, apparently! Thank goodness I’m with Octopus.
Out again Mick?
Best wishes to all. X
