Did you have a favourite Teddy Bear?

I have one who was a present on my first birthday. He languished in a drawer for many years, after our last dog, as a pup, chewed his face off.
The Teddy Hospital eventually restored him to virtually as good as new.
He ought to have a tartan ribbon round his neck but at some point the Gdcs discarded it - goodness knows where it is now.

I have that exact bear Witsendhe is lovely. My Dad bought that for me as a baby. He is still in my bedroom.

Mine is 75 years old and used to wear a knitted green jumper and shorts set. When my boys were small they had 5 soft toys each. They wanted to make a football team and so my teddy was called into action. Strangely all the other toys were male but ‘Mummy’s teddy’was a girl I suppose because she belonged to me.

Ted is 65. My Gran made him and then knitted outfits for him. My daughter has him now.

I kept my favourite (only) teddy, imaginatively called 'Teddy', for my own children. It mysteriously disappeared though, and I am fairly certain that DS1, aged about 14 months, must have 'posted' it into the swing-lid kitchen bin. I still miss that teddy. 😔

Big Ted sits on a miniature deck chair on the hearth scrounged from a shop display for him. His eyes have been replaced by buttons his pads by bits of my mum's stockings and all his fur has been hugged off. My dad, who was in the Navy, sent me another bear from Korea during the war. I burst into tears, threw it on the floor and stamped on it till I was reassured I wouldn't have to throw Big Ted out!! BT will go in my coffin with me..... BTW...what is a TAAT? Please excuse my ignorance.

Moving on to our children's teddies, when I was expecting my third baby I bought a little panda for the older two to bring to the hospital as a present for their new sibling.
This little panda was well-loved, but unfortunately had to share a bedroom with two boys...
He used to get the blame if the room was less than fragrant, and thus became known as Fart Teddy 😷

So many lovely stories and memories.

Teddy is just “Teddy”, given to me at 10 months old in hospital in 1953. His tummy has a wee bare patch made by pushing it to hear him growl and his nose is gone, but of course I still love him.
Another story - DD1 (now 42) had a little white teddy given when she was born and she just loved him. Because he was white, he made it into the washing machine quite a lot, but one of these washes broke his brown eyes. A friend said she worked near a shop that would have new eyes, but when she brought them to me, they were blue. I nevertheless opened him up and changed the eyes. Thankfully DD1 was delighted and from then he was called Teddy Blue-Eyes. She still has him. 🥰

Just before Christmas there was a big black bear in a local shop window. I was overjoyed that Christmas to find that Father Christmas had got him for me. I don’t know what happened to him. When I left home at 17 my mum got rid of all of my toys. Even a photo I’d taken of all of my toys disappeared. I’d give anything to have just one of them, even the photo.

At maybe 10, not long before one Christmas, dd1 fell in love with an enormous, very floppy stuffed elephant in a shop window. The price was horrendous (we were living abroad at the time, 150 rials) so I said no way.

However a few days before Christmas I saw him reduced to 75 rials! So a brilliant surprise for dd on the day, though he was so big, I had to get a neighbour to hide him!

We still have him (always known as El) around 35 years later. He did start looking grubby, coming undone and losing stuffing over the years, so some time ago I took all his stuffing out, washed him, re-stuffed and sewed him up again. He still lives at our house - Gdcs find him very comfortable for lying on while watching TV.

I still have Jonathan Bear, who my grandparents gave me for my first birthday. He has been much loved all my life and was splendid with a big blue bow. However, he is the best part of sixty years old and should perhaps be known as Fred Bear these days. A few years ago, there was a brand new small, golden Merrythought bear for sale in our local hospice shop for £2. Edward Bear came home with me and lives on our bed alongside George, the cuddly giraffe my daughter gave me. Jonathan has his own special small chair in our bedroom.

I had on very similar to the one in Witzend's photo but with shorter hair. I called her Penny. I think she disintegrated in the end.

My mum had a little bear that she kept on her bed. It had a label on it from Boots so that was what he was called.
We put Boots into Mum's coffin so she wouldn't be on her own.

I've had my bear for about 65 years - he's called Timothy or Timmy.
I gave him a hair cut once and I expected it to grow back as mine did but it never did.
He's been stitched up a few times. I think it's time he came down from the shelf and back onto my bed, along with Woolie and Sid Fisher who was my Mum's bear in later life.

I inherited my children's teddies !

My much loved childhood teddy bear wore very thin on the paws. So much so that his stuffing began leaking. My lovely Dad cut up his green beret to make paches for them. Teddy then lasted until I left home. I don't know what became of him afterwords, I expect that my mother binned him.

I had one and never played with him, he didn't have a name but did have lovely clothes my mum had knitted.
I'm afraid he was rejected for my doll Sheba after the Queen of.

I had a panda too, loved it to bits, literally 😆it was called Blacky named after next doors little dog, a tiny black poodle.
My Mum once washed my panda and after that it was completely flat and I sobbed my heart out.😩

It can still be made a nice thread tho, threadbare?

I had panda bear which I gave to my sister when she was born. Now I wish I hadn't. It was one of those daft gestures that children make and that parents should have the sense to refuse.
