Jackiest You clearly know nothing about fishing, but how far you can cast and how accurately is a key component of success in catching fish.

A bit like saying why not play football without kicking the ball long distances and accurately.

I'll just leave this here.

Then change the rules so it becomes a fishing competition not a mud race and not on how far you can cast but how accurately you can cast. Then women can compete equally on fishing skills instead of being seen as second rate.

You want to change the whole ethos and point of the sport so a man who identifies as female can compete where he wants to? Women aren't second rate athletes, footballers, rugby players, swimmers etc they are women competitors who would like fair competition. Why should everything have to accommodate men who want to compete out of their sex class, in other words cheat?

The women aren’t seen as second rate. They are seen as women.

Exactly farnorth it shouldn’t have to change
He may identify as a woman but he isn’t a woman and he has the strength of a man and he doesn’t have the chance of having to fish or do whatever, when cramped up with period pains, bah humbug

Smileless2012 Mon 12-Jun-23 09:02:11

Why should it be changed.... my thoughts too FarNorth.

FarNorth Mon 12-Jun-23 08:54:02

Why should it be changed Jackiest just because some men want to pretend to be women?
Presumably the women enjoy the sport as it is but you want them to have a different sport, just to humour some men.
The women are not 'second-rate' as you put it. They are competing within the capabilities of female bodies, which men never have.

Allsorts

So really he’s ruined it for them

Indeed.
That happened as soon as he joined the team, whether they went ahead or not.

Good for them, they need to stop this mix and match in ALL sport

I can see why being male gives you an advantage in a sprort that requires strength but in angling does it matter if you are male or female and why is it assumed that there being a male in their team gives them an advantage. Why have men and women teams and then assume that the womens team will perform less well than the mens. Just have teams that can consist of men or women.

From the captain of the team.
She said male-born competitors had far more upper-body strength, adding: 'This is such an advantage, with the ability to cast longer distances than any woman. They have the capability of doing this while using more powerful equipment, such as stiffer and more powerful rods.

Not to mention the extra strength she has wading in and out of the surf or walking through mud and rocks, and the stamina to keep this going for four or five hours.

I have no grudge personally. This is an advantage to our team, but we find it totally unfair to other nations.

Clearly a former rugby player transwoman will give an advantage. Why should they change to mixed sex teams which will always disadvantage the women?

M0nica Mon 12-Jun-23 07:29:35

Jackiest Some sports, arena horse events for an example, do have teams that are just the best horseriders, regardless of sex, but if you read the link given above, the headline tells you why they did what they did

Half of England ladies' angling team quit after trans woman 'with hands like shovels' and who used to be a rugby player is selected to join their squad for physically demanding fishing championship

Well done them! The sooner this nonsense is settled, the sooner we’ll be back to rational discussion and debate.

Yup, me too. I admire them for putting principle before winning.

England women's shore angling team faced the prospect of winning unfairly in the upcoming Home Nations shore fishing championship because a male person was selected to be in their team of 6.
3 of the 5 women team members decided they couldn't do it.

The article explains the strength advantage which a male person has in this sport.
