Thunderstorms and theTV

I’m feeling quite jealous of all of you expecting thunderstorms. Clouds just don’t seem to reach the South East corner. I’d so welcome some rain. Stay safe.

Accuweather has a yellow warning for thunderstorms in place until 21:00 for much of England and all of Wales.

Where is the storm? Summer here in Wales

You should disconnect everything that connects to the TV. Lighting could send a surge of high voltage electricity through your set and damage the internal components.

As Farmor says, a surge protector would offer protection if the strike is to electrical cabling but not a strike to the aerial so disconnect that too.

It might be a good idea - especially if your TV is not plugged into a surge protector. A TV of ours stopped working after a thunderstorm - I suspect a power surge. There's not likely to be any danger to you, but slight risk of damage to TV. We also had a modem on computer (old style Internet, via phone line) fried by lightning!
