For DM and Boris haters he is going to be writing a weekly column in the DM!

BoJo is falling down the newspaper rankings. Sacked from The Times for lying, overpaid by the Telegraph to write about letterboxes and now demoted to the Daily Wail. Next the Star?

Molly the latest issue came out last Wednesday

I was thinking of the fun on Have I Got News For You as well.

DH has just come home with a Daily Mail.
He said "I know you like the TV bit"

Is this grounds for divorce?

Hardly😂
DP buys the Mail now and again, it’s a quick read for news and has loads of crosswords/ Su Doku /puzzles.Too much snobbery about it.The Mail and Express and Mirror are the fave papers of working people.

We like Private Eye, but I’m waiting to see Ian Hislop’s views on BJ’s latest.

FannyCornforth Sat 17-Jun-23 17:22:29

HPQ yes, me too!
I’ve been a subscriber for 20 odd years.
I always get excited when it’s ‘Private Eye Wednesday’!

HPQ yes, I just about remember ‘Dear Bill’
And then it was The Secret Diary of John Major (aged 47 and three quarters)
He would call his Chancellor (Lamont) Norma, and his wife Norman smile

My late Father always read Private Eye and I used to read the Dear Bill page, the rest of it was probably a bit beyond teenage me! I am now a subscriber, and it is frankly, the only printed news publication that I trust.

Interesting GrannyGravy. Mind you, I imagine we could all guess which were the most attended rallies in the 1930s.

Just as correlation is not causation, popularity does not mean good, accurate or without bias intended to mislead.

In case you hadn’t noticed we are in the 2020’s not the 1930’s

Why is that relevant. I'm sure we could find examples of the attempted misleading of a majority all through history. Are you really suggesting this changed as we went into the 2020s?

I think Private Eye should run Mrs Johnson's Diary. Mrs Wilson's Diary was a great success. It could kick off with 'I'm very worried about Dylwin....'

They also had the brilliant "Dear Bill" letters, 'written' by Denis Thatcher.

GrannyGravy there aren’t any ‘broadsheets’ on that list

Or indeed The Sun.
This is the reason why

Perhaps they do not want to publish their shrinking print readership?

There are some guesstimations available, but obviously they are just that guesses

I’m not sure where the average reader gets their serious analysis of political events. I guess the television?

I know that we may often complain about the bias shown by our national broadcaster - the BBC, but compared to the USA we really are in with a fighting chance of a reasonable analysis of domestic and world events with stuff we can find on BBC news.

That is why so many people in the USA honestly believe that Trump is so good for their country - because their diet will be solely Fox News whereas in the U.K. the dominant news broadcaster is still the BBC and we are imo the better for it. Look at how Johnson has slid from grace since the reporting of his behaviour - it has been rapid. Whereas if news outlets like GB News were dominant and which is so similar to Fox News it would be a very different picture.
