For DM and Boris haters he is going to be writing a weekly column in the DM!

GrannyGravy there aren’t any ‘broadsheets’ on that list

I noticed that, so I googled from several different sources and they were all the same.

The Broadsheets were very much towards the bottom of all lists.

FannyCornforth Sat 17-Jun-23 11:38:26

No Times, Telegraph, Guardian, or Sunday versions of them

DaisyAnneReturns Sat 17-Jun-23 11:34:02

Interesting GrannyGravy. Mind you, I imagine we could all guess which were the most attended rallies in the 1930s.

Just as correlation is not causation, popularity does not mean good, accurate or without bias intended to mislead.

It appears that physical newspapers are dropping as more read online however, Daily Mail is still the most popular paid for print newspaper in U.K.

Wow, by a long way.
Over double the next highest paid-for paper, The Mirror (excluding the MoS)

I don’t know, Callistemon, it could get you drummed out of the Brownies on here, though!smile

Callistemon21 Sat 17-Jun-23 11:23:33

DH has just come home with a Daily Mail.
He said "I know you like the TV bit"

Is this grounds for divorce?

I’ve just read the article. Not good on detail is he - as ever. Still, I guess most people will take his column with a pinch of very large salt.

Once bitten………….and all that.

Did anyone hear JRM make a fool of himself on Nick Ferrari’s show yesterday?
I’ll post a link if anyone is interested

Well off he’s gone taking his weird assortment of supporters with him. I have no doubt that his column will be a five minute wonder, and it within very short order the caravan will have moved on to other excitement.

Yes, I can’t imagine that he’ll do it for long either.
He will see it as beneath him, like absolutely everything else

Yes, I have the online Radio Times up on my bookmarks:

www.radiotimes.com/tv/tv-listings/

Full details on any and every programme, scroll beck or forward to watching, look ahead for following days etc. Actually no need for paper at all. You can click between Freeview and Sky, Virgin, Talk talk and all the providers.

So I've not read this whole thread, but find it interesting that Johnson's notebooks have been seized by the government.
Why?
What have they got to hide?

Indeed!

Boris Johnson's 25 notebooks from his time as Prime Minister have caused a national security alarm after "highly sensitive" material was discovered. Government officials have advised that the sensitive information should only be viewed by people with the highest level of security clearance.12

Until today, we bought the Daily Mail on a Saturday, mainly because DH likes the horse racing section . We find great pleasure and amusement in reading all the lies it prints, then having a discussion about what is really happening.

We will no longer be buying it, now BJ is on board.

It's quite good if you feel like having a good rant 😀

Yes, I look at the online TV guide too

It's just habit! And I like it 😀

For those of you who buy the Saturday edition of the Daily Mail for the TV magazine, since Covid I’ve always looked online for the tv programme schedule. Radio Times put it online. I usually just google Tonight’s tv and up it pops. I always bought the Radio Times for tv programmes previous to Covid but find it just as good to find online, and saves money.

Thought I’d read his column to see what it’s all about. Frankly I wasn’t that impressed. I found it mildly amusing but I’ve read better. Guess it was okish.

He's not going to jump in at the deep end, is he? Of course he'll do "bland" for aa bit.

rosie1959 Sat 17-Jun-23 09:02:42

I read the mail on line and often buy it on a Saturday for the TV magazine. Usually buy in when away as DH likes the sport. Certainly will not stop just because Boris happens to be writing a column.
Mind you the only first I have got is in common sense and a laid back attitude to life.
I read his first article absolutely nothing wrong with it and mildly amusing.

Allsorts I definitely was not ‘bragging’; I was attempting to prove the point that not all readers of the DM are ill educated imbeciles, as was suggested by Grantanow; it was relevant to the discussion.

I also think that Johnson’s intelligence is extremely over egged.

Sometimes he can barely string a sentence together.

If he spoke with what is perceived to be a working class accent (such as my own) he’d sound inarticulate and ridiculous

Allsorts Sat 17-Jun-23 07:32:05

In lockdown, we all knew the risks and took necessary precautions. We took responsibility for our own health. I live on my own, no family to help out, stayed in and I coped, but it’s hD long lasting effects on me, others in my position went to see and stay with family. We are all still here.
If you don’t want to read the Mail it’s quite simple, don’t buy or read it. All this very aggressive and emotive language says more about you than anything, those trying to show how intelligent they are with degrees etc. show the opposite. Those I know with degrees don’t brag. You can have all the qualifications in the world that doesn’t mean you have common sense or in many cases a job. Next time I vote it will be tactical.

Oh heck!

I said first degree, not a first.
It was a reference to Grantanow's opinion of people who may just read the Daily Mail.

He'll probably have to limit his vocabulary for DM readers, no Latin tags

So an assumption that DM readers are thickos who cannot possibly have a first degree, ie a BA in Classics, ie let alone higher degrees in other subjects.

Just to clarify.

I have a first in Art History and an MA in English Literature, as well as a teaching degree; I also read the DM every day, along side other newspapers.
So I’m better qualified than Bodger
