According to this theory a day time nap is very good for you Well I nap for Britain and as soon as I sit down I m away
What about you ?

My mum would get quite narky if you suggested she go and have a nap instead of dozing off in the chair.
'I'm just resting my eyes' she would say, as though she'd committed a crime when she fell asleep in the daytime.
I love a 20 minute power nap between 2pm and 3pm if I'm tired and definitely feel better for it.

Since reading that research I'm really embracing the nap. Not just waiting to see if I fall asleep watching TV. This past week I've been for a proper lie down. Usually seem to sleep for about 20-30 mins and waken feeling fab. Also sleeping longer at night even though this heat is awful. (My Fitbit tells me). Something's going on and I like it!

20 mins after lunch - refreshment of the gods!

I nap a lot less than I used to!

Not really sure why.

I do nowadays, instead of hopping out of bed in the mornings, lie there for a bit and rest. That maybe the difference? But having said that, I am waking up earlier on the whole than I used to, anyway.

If I sit down mid afternoon to watch a pre recorded program (Good Morning Britain) itโ€™s a given that I nod off for 15 or 20 minutes - that program - full of non news and somewhat weird subject choices automatically sends me to sleep!

I nap a lot during the day .
There's no warning - I just switch off usually watching TV .
I think that the sound of the voices sets me off .

I didn't used to nap during the day and I thought that my parents endlessly complaining about being tired and napping were odd .

Looking back less smoking , drinking and a healthy diet might have helped !
It hasn't helped me .

I guess that it's age !
I'm glad if my brain is young !

I m with your husband sodapop I can nap on a hard chair, in an easy chair, in a deckchair (probably standing up although
I ve never tried it) and I still sleep (in chunks) through the night Usually have one or two breaks in the night but I m not worried about that. I donโ€™t feel tired during the day but nod off as soon as I m not in an up and running position ๐Ÿ˜‚

I once fell asleep standing up in a crowded train on a hot day in the summer of 1976. I was only 21 at the time! I woke up as people started getting off and felt myself falling over! No wonder I nap now I'm retired!

I could nap for England. I gave up going to the cinema as sitting in a comfy seat in a warm dark place was guaranteed to make me nod off. I'm not even kept awake by light as I was when younger. I often don't get enough sleep at night though!

At least I don't wake myself up snoring as I used to. Losing weight seems to have helped with that problem. If the snoring didn't wake me my kids shouting at me did!

If I'm not on the school run I sometimes doze off for half an hour about 4pm and wake feeling good to go. However if I have the GCs here and I am too busy, I don't really miss it.
My main problem staying awake is when I am a passenger in a car driving along the motorway. There is something about that continuous, unchanging road noise and being unable to move out of my seat that makes me really drowsy. I only wake when my head drops suddenly.

Every time I had a nap the cat would curl up and join in. Trouble was that he snored and when I say snore I mean snored loudly enough to be a nuisance. After he died of old age, I started to enjoy my naps again and luckily the French Bulldog I recently inherited, is a very quiet sleeper, unlike most of his breed.

Oh, I wish! I still work, and get only 30 minute lunch break. DH has a lie down after lunch, and so does the dog!

crazyH Tue 20-Jun-23 18:58:58

Yes, Iโ€™m a napper

nipsmum Tue 20-Jun-23 18:51:47

When I was a teenager I had an hour's bus journey to and from work, I was very good at sleeping on the bus. I never missed my stop once. Now I very rarely nap during the day. I am not very good at sleeping during the night ( years of night duty ), so I don't sleep or nap during the day.

Kim19 Tue 20-Jun-23 16:54:50

Yes I enjoy the odd zizz. Life of little schedule helps this along nicely. If I have an appointment of any sort I always set my phone alarm as an aide memoire. Need all the help I can get!

glammagran Tue 20-Jun-23 16:50:27

Thick as mince, me. No matter how tired I am I cannot ever nap during the day. Not even on a long haul flight. I sometimes find myself dropping off at 9pm though. Can this count?

If I fell asleep during the day I'd be thinking I was ill. Can hardly sleep at night, let alone daytime.

Cambia Tue 20-Jun-23 16:01:38

I need eight hours in one go, so get very grumpy if I nap and only get 20 mins!! Sure if you get a good nights sleep of eight hours most nights you will be fine.

I go to bed around 2am, get up around 10am, never nap. People who go to bed early and get up early have a self riteous attitude even though they nap for 2 hours in the afternoon.

I go to bed early and get up early but never nap in the day.

We started to get up early to have sometime on our own before the children got up.

My grandparents, religiously, had an afternoon nap and woe betide anyone who made even the tiniest noise.

sodapop Tue 20-Jun-23 15:57:20

I only nap during the day if I'm unwell or have slept badly the night before. My husband falls asleep the minute he sits down to watch TV.

AreWeThereYet Tue 20-Jun-23 15:30:25

Not a napper generally. If I nap during the day it's a sign I haven't been sleeping well.

Bit confusing though - a little while ago I read something that suggested that if you were napping during the day it was a sign you may have heart problems ๐Ÿ™„

Froglady Tue 20-Jun-23 15:23:01

I have to lay down to get to sleep- just can't nod off while I'm sat up.

Mollie3 Tue 20-Jun-23 15:21:59

Cannot sleep unless it's bedtime and I sleep for eight hours, I'm in my mid 70s.

biglouis Tue 20-Jun-23 14:26:45

I keep very irregular hours. Usually nap between 4-7 pm and sleep between 4 and 8 am.

Bijou Tue 20-Jun-23 14:21:47

I now fall asleep even during a meal and often make a cup of tea and wake to find it cold.
My husband always had an afternoon nap and if in the car would pull into a lay-by to have half an hour.
