According to this theory a day time nap is very good for you Well I nap for Britain and as soon as I sit down I m away
What about you ?

I don’t sleep much at night, so try to nap most days. I am a young genius!

Aveline Tue 20-Jun-23 06:22:27

I was thrilled to read this!

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-Jun-23 06:22:44

After lunch we tend to sit for a while and read or whatever, that is when I May nod off.

BigBertha1 Tue 20-Jun-23 06:26:07

Any time I switch on the TV I nod off.

Ashcombe Tue 20-Jun-23 06:33:00

In my working days, I loved an afternoon nap, in which I could only indulge at weekends! Now DH and I regularly snooze after lunch, if we’re at home. 💤😌💤

Aveline Tue 20-Jun-23 06:42:57

When I was young all the grandparents and great aunts etc had a nap in the afternoon. When I was staying with one or other of them I used to be so bored as they peacefully snoozed. Now I'm one of them!

Blondiescot Tue 20-Jun-23 06:43:32

No, never been able to nap during the day, I'm afraid. The rest of the family love a nap though, but not me.

Greyduster Tue 20-Jun-23 06:55:18

Not really, unless I’ve been doing something very tiring during the morning. I rest, but don’t actually fall asleep. Speaks volumes about my intellect then!

kittylester Tue 20-Jun-23 07:00:36

This explains a lot! I don't nap unless I actual lie on the bed. I don't do that as I just sleep and don't wake up for hours. I very rarely drop off while watching TV.

mumofmadboys Tue 20-Jun-23 07:03:40

The article said only one nap of thirty minutes or less was beneficial to brain health I believe

Grammaretto Tue 20-Jun-23 07:09:35

I'm a napper! I have had to miss my naps recently and am a wreck ready for bed at 9pm.

dragonfly46 Tue 20-Jun-23 07:19:03

Ha ha I don’t nap either kitty!

Jaxjacky Tue 20-Jun-23 08:09:05

Same kitty I just can’t sleep in a chair, has to be bed. On the very rare occasions I do retire to bed I sleep deeply and wake up a grump, so I don’t do it.
MrJ on the other hand can easily catnap.

Cabbie21 Tue 20-Jun-23 08:12:55

DH used to nap several times a day. I hardly ever do, though I might today as I woke at 4.30. Yesterday I woke at 3.30. So tired.

shysal Tue 20-Jun-23 08:19:33

Even when I was working I used to eat my lunch in the parked car and have a sleep. I was doing intense microscope work so it charged my batteries. Now that I am retired I still have a nap for 20 minutes or so, especially if the sun is on my face.

My father used to go home for lunch and had his '40 winks' every time.

Juliet27 Tue 20-Jun-23 08:27:37

I used to come home from work and nap straight away. I used to imagine i wouldn’t need to once I retired but, no, I still doze off at around the same time. I tend to wake at around 5 in the morning no matter what time I go to bed so I’ve followed what my body clock obviously needs and go to bed around 9 to 10 and fall asleep almost straight away. Still nap for a while most afternoons.

Sara1954 Tue 20-Jun-23 08:30:48

I could sleep anytime, anywhere, except of course in bed at night!
If I feel myself dropping off I set the alarm on my phone for ten minutes.

Aveline Tue 20-Jun-23 08:33:44

It's very hard to time naps. I just find myself drifting off but don't check my watch at the time. My Fitbit records if I sleep longer than an hour but that's only ever happened twice in three years. I guess I must sleep for 15-30ish minutes. Lovely. Not today though. Meeting this afternoon so I'll need to stay awake. sad

AGAA4 Tue 20-Jun-23 08:36:37

I rarely nap so this explains a lot!

downtoearth Tue 20-Jun-23 08:37:36

I can sit down and almost be falling on my face, but can I nod off ,no,usually hapoens vetween 2.30 -4 , then I liven up again.
I never lay on the bed,and just cannot sleep during the day,I wake most days around 5,and normally go to bed around 9 and read for a while.
I obviously am not very bright then eithergrin

Same here, and when I do finally wake up I feel quite physically sick and really down in the dumps.

Witzend Tue 20-Jun-23 08:46:08

I’ve just read this, too.

I always have what they call ‘disturbed nights’ so an afternoon zizz on the sofa is a regular thing here.

Before anyone might mention it, if I don't have one, it makes absolutely no difference to how I sleep at night - that’s just an age thing. I often look back nostalgically to the days when I would just go to bed and sleep - all night.

Witzend Tue 20-Jun-23 08:47:49

PS, I usually set my phone timer to limit it to less than an hour, otherwise I could easily go into a long, deep sleep, which I def. don’t want in the afternoon.

tanith Tue 20-Jun-23 09:12:40

Very rarely do I nap in the daytime, I do wake early and could probably do with it but I just can’t fall asleep in the day.
