One of my ‘Triffids’ has grown 2.5 inches overnight!

OK, strictly speaking it’s a hollyhock, but they’re all zooming up so fast, yesterday I made a mark on the fence for the tallest, - like you do with children, to check how they’re growing. Yes, daft I know, but it’s pleased me to find out. 🙂

I get this Witzend 🙂.
Note to self: hollyhocks next year, not just sunflowers.

My were lovely but perished in the heat so disappointed.

One of the French Islands has hollyhocks as their “national” flower.

Bit of useless information 😄

That’ll be l’Isle de Rey, such a magical place (and where the donkeys wear pyjamas) 😳.

Another one with triffids. Same height as my 2m fence and growing. They have brought lovely colour to the garden.

Witzend Thu 22-Jun-23 17:44:50

Mine aren’t flowering yet Marydoll - plenty of buds coming - but they were planted not long ago - I had over six feet of newly bare fence to ‘clothe’ for the summer. So glad I thought of hollyhocks, they’re doing brilliantly so far.

My triffid is my wisteria. Went away for ten days actually worrying that it was looking decidedly poorly and return to a veritable jungle with tentacles !longer than I've ever seen them. Happy days!

I took a photo, but it says the image is too large to upload. đŸ€Ł

Honeysuckle is triffid-like round here. Grows everywhere and on everything. There's a holly tree under this lot.

Marydoll Thu 22-Jun-23 19:53:52

My triffid.

I had to learn how to resize an image to post this, as the site wouldn't accept it. Every day is a school day on GN!

Our Triffids were a group of Verbascum that we thought were going to grow to be about a foot tall. Imagine our surprise when they grew to over 6 feet tall and took over the border. They looked very striking for a couple of weeks but got incredibly messy.

Same growth again last night! At this rate it’ll soon be over the top of the five foot fence before the flowers are even out.

That’s an amazing foxglove, Marydoll!

I didn't plant it, it just appeared!

Same in my garden Marydoll, foxgloves appeared from nowhere and are a beautiful addition to the garden.
My four hollyhocks are growing rapidly, showing buds which I can’t wait to see burst open. A beautiful reminder of visits to l’Isle de Rey where hollyhocks grow profusely in various colours.

Kalu, isit a coincidence that I live near you? A random bird, spreading Hollyhock seeds. đŸ€Ł

We have two clumps of deep pink foxgloves growing at two different areas of the garden. So pretty I may buy white to mix with the pink.

Since I made that mark on the 21st, it’s grown 10.5 inches! Flower buds now coming along nicely. I was hoping they’d be flowering by the time a Dsis and niece from across the pond will be back in a week’s time after visiting other family, but only for 2 nights before flights home, but alas I don’t think so.

I am up in Suffolk at the moment and everywhere I go there are fabulous tall, healthy, beautiful dark red hollyhocks, with the biggest leaves, showing no rust and glorious colours. I am envious!
