I wasn't keen on the Arctic Monkeys, thought I'd better watch as DGD went to see them last week.
It must be an age thing 😁

Arctic Monkeys do nothing for me either!

My 27 year old really doesn't like them either but her fiance is a huge fan. So she's seen them a couple of times but has refused point blank to go again!

The Irish chap, Dermot Kennedy I think. I really like his stuff.

Why did I cry during his last two songs?
Thinking of DC and DGC and those songs are so poignant

My late DD discovered Cat Stevens in her forties even though I used to play his songs all the time when she was little.

I’m relieved he didn’t sing ‘How Can I Tell You?^ or I’d have been a wreck.

He wrote some really beautiful songs.

I thought I’d keep an open mind and have a look at Arctic Monkeys. I managed about 20 minutes then couldn’t stand any more. It was like funeral music! The singer can’t sing - he looks like a Bryan Ferry impersonator! That’s an insult to Bryan Ferry though…
I’m watching G n R again now till Elton comes on later. 👍😎

Cat was brilliant

I loved Blondie as well. Seen them a few times live and they don't disappoint

Who was the girl singing with the Manics! She was very good.

She’s a Welsh singer songwriter called the Anchoress, she has been the support act for the Manics in the past. She is great.

Loved the Rick Astley set!
And will watch Elton on catch up tomorrow as he's on past my bedtime.

That was in reply to Riverwalk.

You are so right. Watching him right now and as good today as he ever was. xx

OMG. I’m watching the Astley/ Smiths thing on catch up
I’m in heaven

I saw that, it was good. I liked the Foo Fighters and the Manic Street Preachers too.
I’ve never liked Elton John though, I’ll be giving him a miss.

Cat Stevens still has a good voice.

It’s fantastic now! Beautiful

Kandinsky Sun 25-Jun-23 17:50:31

Oh definitely, wouldn’t mind having her energy ( & looks ) at 78.

Blondiescot Sun 25-Jun-23 17:47:30

Debbie Harry is 78 next week - to be honest, I think she's doing ok! She was one of my musical icons growing up and I reckon she still rocks it.

Kandinsky Sun 25-Jun-23 17:45:37

Blondie is pretty bad - but she is nearly 80.

MayBee70 Sun 25-Jun-23 17:42:18

And so ahead of his time with eg environmental issues. I still remember the first time I heard him. When I lived in Cornwall the lad in the flat next to mine played me one of his songs. And the first time I heard Elton John was at a disco I went to when I still lived in Birmingham and they played Lady Samantha. It was at Matthew Bolton Technical College. It could have been yesterday it’s so vivid in my mind.

glammagran Sun 25-Jun-23 17:39:17

Best act for me so far has been Jacob Collier yesterday. He was so engaging and got the whole crowd singing harmonies which he conducted. Might watch The War on Drugs later - seen them live twice.

Riverwalk Sun 25-Jun-23 17:36:01

How achingly beautiful Yusuf Cat Stevens was back in our day!

Oldbat1 Sun 25-Jun-23 16:56:01

Weve seen elton John a few times over the years and he was great. Looking forward to tonight.

merlotgran Sun 25-Jun-23 16:44:05

Pushing him into all these gigs when he clearly is not up to it at the moment will only make things worse because he'll feel guilt now, too,

I can’t help thinking of other talented artistes who didn’t receive the right support when they most needed it. Some were definitely exploited.

Judy Garland, Lena Zavaroni, Karen Carpenter and Amy Winehouse to name but a few.

It’s unfair on fans who are naturally disappointed and out of pocket because the management teams know there is a problem and shouldn’t be risking a worsening situation.
