Glastonbury 2023 anyone plan to watch?

I don't think you necessarily have to be an avid fan of a particular band or artist to appreciate that their music does have merit. I've got quite eclectic taste in music and while there are some very popular artists I might not like from a personal point of view, I can appreciate the talent involved. I was just a bit too young for The Beatles, but there are some of their tracks which are timeless classics.

Just watched some of last nights on iPlayer, Arthic Monkeys very good and will watch some of it tonight and tomorrow night. I have never wanted to go but I can remember when DS and his friends went many years ago now. I’m so glad they’re having good weather.

Watched Foo Fighters last night - brilliant as always and Violet Grohl was an added bonus. Recording it all. Never been - always had a fear of massive crowds but love watching on TV.

I love the Foos as well. Looked a bit sweaty though.

Thousands of sweaty, increasingly smelly people all crammed together, some of them totally off their heads on booze or whatever, endless queues at overflowing, stinky chemical toilets, with those who can't be bothered to wait just letting it all go "al fresco", ridiculously inflated prices for food and drink, trying to get some peace to sleep in a stiflingly hot , overcrowded tent, with hooting and roaring still going on all around into the wee small hours. What's not to love about that? Frankly, all of it. Been there and done that, Woodstock, '67 (Manfred Mann, Jeff Beck), Woburn, '67 (Kinks, Small Faces), but couldn't cope with it now. My idea of Hell these days...

Sorry, Germanshepherdsmum, but I just don’t understand the hype around the Beatles. Their songs are boring and I don’t see them as brilliant musicians. I always preferred the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. The best guitarists then were Hank Marvin, Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix.

Same, I've never been a fan of the Beatles - although I do like a few of their songs. I did like George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburys though - now that was a great band.

I've been recording Glastonbury and have just seen The Mary Wallopers. Now that's my kind of music, being from an Irish family. Brilliant.

I usually work in Welfare at Glastonbury. Didn’t go this year as I’m trying to blitz a dreadful house for my son and grandson to stay. I won’t be watching much on tv because they never televise the bits I go to!! I went to the first free Hyde Park (1968) and the Bath and West festival that gave Michael Eavis the idea

Oh I couldn't start a thread. It would be boring and show-offy. My daughter says when people ask about my exploits (I've been on local radio a couple of times) 'Please don't ask my mother about The Beatles'. I'm sure lots of you have such memories of your own idols.

Kate1949 I remember going to stay with my older cousin in a nice Liverpool suburb and she said "One of those Beatles that you like so much lives just round the corner; there are always girls hanging around outside trying to catch a glimpse of him". I said "Well, I'm not going to be one of them, hanging around, however much I like them!"

Purely a subjective opinion. They are boring to you!

I too liked the Rolling Stones.

Both were iconic. Both were part of the huge cultural change in the 60s, and they had different influences and styles.

I worked in a record shop for a brief period during that era and I can tell you that sales of the Beatles' records went through the roof.

GSM is right - over-rated they were not. Perhaps you needed to be there to 'get it'?

Even those who were not into the popular music of that era could appreciate some of their work. My own mother - who used to do an 'eye-roll' every time I had a record 'session' at home because she only appreciated classical music, would listen to some of their songs.

We dip in and out on the telly…I am retiring this year and hope to get tickets to go next year - everyone says I’m mad and won’t get them but 🤞🏻

I for one would love to hear your stories. I only have a couple of Beatle related snippets to tell and love to hear music fanatics chatting about their idols. I can bore relentlessly about mine!

Like millions of others, I was part of the Beatles madness. I have many tales to tell which I won't bore you with. I queued for tickets, screamed and cried at the concerts, chased Paul around Birmingham Town Hall, lots more. It truly was Beatle mania.
However, it is only in later years that I can appreciate some of the beautiful songs. How did such young men write Eleanor Rigby? In She's Leaving Home they seemed to know how older people felt when a child left home.
Anyway sorry to hijack the thread. Maybe we should have a Beatles thread and I could ramble in relentlessly. Back to Glastonbury......

I've never been to Glastonbury, always thought there's too much pop and not enough rock, would have loved Woodstock though.

Never been to a festival but had to make a trip to the Reading festival a few years back as my dd’s bf lost their car keys, so my husband and I drove up with the spare set.
The atmosphere was absolutely amazing and I truly wished I could have stayed for the weekend.

No, it is everything I dislike most: camping; dirt; communal toilets; crowds; noise; drunken people; drugs; too hot / too wet; smells; queues; overpriced food; traffic jams.
In the very unlikely event that there is an act I would like to watch the BBC has apparently sent 100 people to cover the event so it will be available on TV.
