Has anyone found a foolproof way to deter foxes.
I was ok with her sunbathing and generally walking round the garden but now she’s taking it too far.
Last week she walked into the conservatory and now, 5 mins ago she walked into the lounge and just looked at us !!!!

Er...Keep your back door shut?

Sorry! Can't think of anything else. grin

We have two fox family’s living in our garden, one at the end under DH’s man cave shed and the other under the decking outside lounge French doors.

I do not feed them, but if we are not in the lounge we close the door, also only have top half of kitchen stable door open.

Your vixen is probably looking for a home for her and her future cubs, on the plus side they do not poo in their own environment.

She brought her babies to see us a few weeks ago 😍
I’ll have to stop the cooing noises I say to her and telling her how beautiful she is.
Such a shame as I love them. I think I could deal with her but there are 2 toddlers next door and they are in the garden all the time.

These are just a couple of our many photos of our foxy family

The only time I worry is when the littlest GC try to get into their den.

I'm a bit envious MerylStreep - we used to love seeing fox cubs but haven't seen any for some time now. Now the adults wander through the garden every evening and back again early in the morning but they don't hang around. We've never fed them, apart from the hedgehog food they share with the hedgehogs and the bird food they finish off.

Sorry can't help with keeping them away as we've never tried anything.

We have foxes here we are across the road from woodland but we don’t have them in the garden we all have dogs . We do have squirrels and lots of birds I have recently stopped feeding them because of rats.

Louella12 Sat 24-Jun-23 20:58:42

I'd love that!

We have a couple of foxes that visit us at night but scarper as soon as they detect any movement from us

Sorry my photos will not upload

I love foxes coming in garden, but it doesn't happen very often!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 25-Jun-23 14:11:42

I will try again

Meryl Streep, that would have me in seventh heaven! I`ve never seen a fox in the flesh, they`re beautiful creatures.

Aren’t they adorable 😍

Hellogirl
Do you have a garden?
She came into the lounge again yesterday evening.
I think she’s heard about the financial difficulties that some are having: she had 2 savaloys in her mouth. She just stood there staring at us 😂

Oh what an honour meryl I love foxes and would love to have one come and say hello although I admit I wouldn’t expect one in my front room
Being an urban chick with an enclosed (off the main road) garden I ve never had the pleasure and am slightly envious of you
Hellogirl nor have I I would be so excited if I did

Smileless2012 Mon 26-Jun-23 11:26:33

Well I'm envy Meryl and GG and think you're both honoured.

Lovely pic GG; so adorablesmile.

We used to have one that crossed the front garden and would stop and stare in but the only uninvited creatures that have come indoors, apart from insects, have been a cat and various birds, sparrows, baby blackbird, a starling and bloomin' pigeons (yet another pigeon the other day).

We've had bats and squirrels in the cavities but not indoors.

I'm not sure I'd like a fox indoors although in the garden would be ok.

Screen doors?

When we lived on the edge of a forest in North Yorkshire, we regularly had a vixen and cubs sunning themselves on the back lawn. We also had Roe deer which used to eat our roses. We never encouraged the foxes by feeding them, and they stayed quite feral and nervous when we appeared, which suited us fine. Unfortunately, many do feed them, and that's when they become accustomed to being around humans, and start to push the boundaries. It's as well to remember that they are wild animals, so treating them as occasional pets does them no favours. Quite the opposite in fact, as one day they may confidently approach someone who doesn't find them quite so cute, and who may react in a quite destructive, or perhaps even lethal fashion. Best left to get on with their natural lives, and to admire from a suitable distance.

Afraid to say foxes are not very popular here at the moment, after slaughtering (not eating) 4 of dd’s ex battery rescue hens - some had arrived from their battery cages only a week previously. 😥

They had dug 3 holes in order to get into their supposedly secure run. Dd has previously had rescue chickens for 3 or 4 years with no problem, but once the foxes know they’re there, they’ll always be back.

Don't leave rabbits or guinea pigs outside either if there are foxes around, foxes have been known to push up the catches on cages or dig under runs to get to the children's pets.

We had a lovely healthy looking one in our garden yesterday but he kept his distance. Meanwhile some red kites were circling overhead eying our barbecue. Magnificent creatures!

pascal30 Mon 26-Jun-23 11:55:14

I think probably the best answer is a half door and they're very attractive.. we also have foxes in our small adjoining city gardens but they just seem to bask on shed rooves. I haven't actually seen one in my garden..

Residents in our road have had to put mesh around the bottom of their cars as foxes keep biting into the brake pipes! Apparently, the fluid contains something that attracts them. It’s cost one neighbour a small fortune in replacements, plus heaven knows what damage it does to the poor foxes.

SachaMac Mon 26-Jun-23 12:23:49

I’m envious MerylStreep I love to see the foxes but only very occasionally see one close up in the garden. It’s sad that so many seem to get hit by cars.
