Thanks - it’s very difficult to find out anything about the charges.

As far as a know you buy a package of likes

That's more a thing content creators do to boost their ratings and the number of likes they have. For a normal TikTok user, simply liking a post doesn't cost anything - but gifting does.

I know nothing about Tik Tok but you may possibly be able to get a refund of these charges on the basis that your son lacked the mental capacity to understand what he was doing.

It doesn't cost anything to like videos on tiktok

To spend money you have to buy the tiktok currency that you can then gift to creators

Ticking like on Tiktok does not cost any money at all

As far as I know, users must buy TikTok coins ( using real money), then use these coins to send gifts to people. A coin is about 1 cent, I think.
Here are the costs of some emojis.

It is not for ticking likes that you are charged, that is free. It is sending gifts that cost you money.

Crikey, thanks for that! I might look at a Tik Tok video sometimes when a link is sent to me but would never "Like" anything. I'm just wondering, what is the charge made to? Would Tik Tok have to have card details?

Just a warning to others who like us did not know of this danger when a grandchild or learning disabled person uses your phone or account.
Neither DH or I use Tiktok - or social media but our learning disabled young adult son does. He uses social media with his friends. Our son has his own phone but on DHs apple account -it helps us know where he is and provide support as he has just started getting out and about alone. Son has recently joined Tiktok- I think to look at short videos and seems to have ticked the like button (a heart or flowers I think) without realising - as there are no warnings- that these 'likes' cost money ( some are £20 or more each)- that this sends money to the person being liked! There are apparently no warnings and no notice of how much each touch of the heart/ flower buttons will set you back. This is not to play games but to trap people!! He has run up a bill for hundreds of pounds!! Apparently many children have also unknowingly run up bills ! DH got no warning that this money was being deducted-only hundreds of pounds on his card bill! We have also deleted Tiktok from his phone!!

Its possible to set the phone to require a passcode/ID code before any charges can be made so we have now done that!

I'm appalled that money can be taken without clear warnings!!

Just thought I would warn others!
