Just in case you haven’t.

YES! Take pictures of all your valuable documents - passport, driver’s license, vaccination card, birth certificate (mine German), naturalization papers (from 1956),
house/mortgage papers, insurance documents, wills, marriage license, divorce papers, death certificates, etc.

In case of calamity, you have a photographic record and you’re already one step ahead of replacements and getting help.

You might also want to take photos of valued (generational) family pictures!

I've also got a picture on my phone of mine and husband's prescriptions

I also take photos of our luggage , itinerary, flight details, travel insurance details.
But delete passport photo after return in case my phone is stolen .

I wouldn’t go abroad without my mobile phone. I’m old fashioned though and prefer my tickets on paper but can use the mobile at the airport

I never take my phone out of the country (far too expensive to ring home from it )and I would never dream of storing things like this on my phone!

Phones are far too easily stolen and my private life is meant to be just that, private and not at the mercy of any thief who can crack my password.

I take a photocopy of our passports , and have done for years . But a photo on my phone is a good idea . I do like a hard copy back up just in case my phone dies or there’s no signal.

We've taken a photocopy of our passports for years, but a photo on the phone would probably be more accessible.

I always include the policy number when I add the phone number of any insurance policies in my phone contacts list.

Take a photo of your passport. I did this some time ago but was reminded of how important it is when everything is gone as in the fires in Greece.
If you’ve got that info the legalities are much quicker.

And take photos of other documents such as driving licence, wedding and birth certificates etc etc .and upload them to a cloud based database, or if you are nervous of these store them on a thumb-drive and keep it in your pocket when travelling and somewhere where you can grab it if you should ever need to get out of your house quickly when at home.

Photos are fine, but not much use if they are at home, and you are stranded abroad.

Yes, I know, as I work as a poll clerk.

Photos of driving licences etc are not acceptable.

You have to take the original with you to vote.

I've got family holidaying on another Greek island near Rhodes. I'm quite glad they are due home on Wednesday.

Thanks MerylStreep I have my passport details photographed also my son and granddaughter’s too as I checked us all in to go to Rhodes on Saturday. I’m not sure that we will get there now as our hotel was evacuated last night and we are not sure if it’s still standing?
I’m so very profoundly grateful not to be there right now, people are having a complete nightmare and my thoughts go out to all of them. Not just the holidaymakers but the locals who are losing their homes and businesses. If our travel company still want to take us I want to go to show support to the people of Rhodes. Not sure if my son will feel the same? He has to take his 6 year old daughter into account. Naturally if it’s inadvisable we won’t go. I’m on a GOV.UK Greece advisory page to follow all updates.
I think everyone should also leave their passport details with someone at home too in case they have had to evacuate with nothing?

My family are currently in Greece (shock) so I will ask DS2 to photograph all their passports and send the copies to the family Whatsap, though I suspect his partner has already made some provision.

We did this during one of the port stops when on a cruise quite recently. Passengers were advised that they might be asked to show their passports by the local police - not port officials I must add - but as pick pocketing was rife all passengers going ashore were told to either carry a printed copy of their passports or take a photo with their phones.

I did this myself, but thank you for the reminder. My family are off to France soon, I'll suggest they photograph their passports.
Another reminder. Children's passports expire after 5 years not ten. My granddaughter recently discovered her first (child's passport) had expired. This was a few days before flying to Greece. The only passport office with an emergency appointment was in Glasgow, on the actual day she was booked to fly to Crete with school friends to celebrate the end of A levels. Granddaughter lives in Oxford. Thankfully the trains ran on time and she arrived at the passport office with minutes to spare (1.30pm) Then got the 2.30pm train back to Oxford. Arrived home 10pm. Flew from Luton Airport (a day late) early next morning, leaving home at 3am. A prebooked taxi met her at the airport to take her to join her friends who had travelled the day before. It all ended well, but was an expensive mistake and very stressful.
