Don't remind me. He is only 3 weeks older than me!

I can rememeber him from the early 60s, along with the Beatles and many others.

I remember The Rolling Stones held the stage during the 'interval' at Studio 51 in Great Newport Street in the 60s.

Ken Colyer (anyone remember him?) was playing, and it was usual for a group to cover the interval period between sessions whilst both the jazzmen and the audience sloped off to the pub - which is what I did. So saw him, but never heard him grin.

Foxy gloves, we re-watched Dr Zivago recently, it's terrific and Omar Sharif was gorgeous

My parents tutted and said Mick Jagger would probably be dead from an overdose before he was thirty 🤣 how they underestimated him! Amazing man!

Wasn't Ned Kelly an Australian gangster who dressed in some kind of armour? Nothing to do with any other Ned Kelly.

Went to see them at The Queen Hall Leeds in 1964 few days before my birthday. Front row seats and lost my voice from screaming

Nannan2 Sun 30-Jul-23 11:52:35

Whose Ned Kelly?

Yes, he was an Australian outlaw. He killed three policemen and was hanged, I think, in 1880

Saw The Rolling Stones in 1963 and again in 1994
Brilliant

You should frame the poster Fannycornforth, and display it on your wall.

Saw the Stones from up a tree in Hyde Park, London, saw the Who same night, seen The Who 8 times.

I remember the films 'Ned Kelly' and 'Performance' although I was keener on the music side. Although I loved the Beatles, it was Mick Jagger that made my young heart beat faster. I think that I'd still blush if I met him, even if he is eighty!

Nannan2 Sun 30-Jul-23 12:08:12

Mick was not too bad looking i guess back in sixties, early seventies- then seems like has got more monkey-looking as times wore on..sorry but i had to say it.😅

Aw that Ned Kelly- i think he was potrayed in a comic in the 70's- a comic strip of his villainous escapades. Not sure which comic though.

I well remember “Ned Kelly”. I was living inAustralia at the time. We were all terribly impressed at the time that he should make the journey…

Have seen the Stones several times in last few years, most recently Hyde Park last year. Love him or loathe him Jagger is a force of nature. His performance is a total body workout. He moves around the stage the whole show, swinging his arms and jumping around. Phenomenal for any age, let alone 80. Long may it last. We have done several UK dates this summer seeing Springsteen, inc 2 Hyde Park. He’s a mere youngster at 73 but wow. Another power house

Remember hitching to Bristol Colston Hall in - it must have been - about 1968, to see The Stones and Ike and Tina Turner. What amazing performers! I also remember Dr Zhivago. I just do not feel that old, but I guess none of us do!

I was more of a Beatle fan as a teenager but did see the Stones live, once with the Beatles and at Hyde Park. Like their music but not the personalities who always seemed to be full of themselves. Treated their wives and girlfriends badly. Mick shows his age now. I expect he can keep up the fitness for a short space of time.

No, I’m not keen at all either.
He seems quite charmless and humourless

That would be my summing up too.

Mr C saw the Rolling Stones at a concert in a pub c. 1965. I asked what his opinion of them was and he replied that anyone who played R and B was wonderful!

Some years later we were in a cinema in Kilburn (then a rather dodgy part of London) which we had travelled to as it was one of only a few cinemas to show 'Performance': many had banned it. We were watching Mick Jagger (fairly wooden!) in the film when suddenly, everyone in the cinema turned and looked over their shoulders as the film character (played by Mick Jagger) had walked along the road outside, climbed the stairs in the cinema and entered through the doors behind us! Rather spooky!

I never was really a fan of the Stones, more of a Beatles fan. However, for Mick to get to 80 is probably close to a miracle. I applaud him for the fact that he managed to get past a period of mind enhancing products and still manages to perform most of their back album with aplomb. Happy Birthday Mick and may you have many more. (PS: his facial features have not changed much, he looked 80 when he was 30 lol. Only joking)

A friend was in the same class as Marianne Faithful at the local RC convent school. She was the darling of the mind until she got involved with MJ. This friend was watching him on television cavorting on stage , a close up of his mouth as he sang. How can Marianne she said!!!

When I lived at home in the 60's, I didn't dare show a liking for the 'stones, but The Beatles were OK. In the pictures in the paper it suggests Mick is staggering, is he staggering because of his age? or under the influence of imbibing? probably a bit of both! That will probably be me next year (if I'm still, here!)

He had heart surgery in America a few years back. According to the papers he had a leaky heart valve and had to postpone their tour until he’d recovered. Amazing!

My friend’s OH was a roadie for the Stones about 20 years ago when people thought they were on the brink of retiring but they’re still going. He used to say that Mick was a great bloke and super fit.

An old colleague of mine had previously worked in the entertainment industry and had met various 'stars', he spoke very highly of Mick having met him on a number of occasions over the years.
