I have been enjoying following your Orkney adventure Brook. I’ve always wanted to go there but couldn’t manage the long walks now. Never say never though smile

Nannytopsy Wed 23-Aug-23 21:46:03

Hello to the kitchen!
We’ve been to the Suffolk coast today to meet up with very good friends, taking the DGC with us. We had a good laugh, lovely lunch and a trip to the beach - what’s not to like?! Even better, their grown up son was there who played with the children - result!
🤞that you avoided Covid soop.
Sleep tight everyone

Thinking of you often, Urms. flowers

Scapa a friend’s daughter got married in the Italian chapel, some years ago. It was like a military manoeuvre involving an ‘airlift’ of guests from London and the SE of England and long ferry journeys. Those photos of lockdown work are amazing!
I’m glad MrC is behaving, Cornergran!
Best wishes for your Dh, Mamaa. You must be so worried.
Hello, Granmarie it’s nice to see you.
Those lads are keeping you busy, GMbatty.
Love photo of Imogen, Jax.
I hope you’re getting used to your scooter now, Annsixty. My 5yo GD saw one today and she thought it was just the most marvellous thing!
Welcome home, LLFL.

Blossoming if you’re allergic to paracetamol, you need to know that there is paracetamol in Cocodamol so do be careful!
Your break sounds very restful, Brook.
I hope no one in the Kitchen catches Covid! 🤞

We’ve had another busy week. Strange how Mondays dawn with little on the horizon but then lots of things happen to fill up the days. On Monday an engineer made a last minute appt to visit to fit a Hive CH and HW control in our house. He was so good, very efficient. Now I’m getting to grips with it, though the CH won’t be use for quite a few weeks, I hope.

Yesterday we bought a new dining table. The table we brought from our old house isn’t big enough so we’ve bought an extending one. Dd2 says I’ve been talking about a new table for her entire life. She’s 27yo. blush blushblush

Today we had our usual after-school dance run with our GD then she came back to have her meal with us. Earlier we took dd1 and GS out for lunch. He had an accident yesterday, trapping his finger in a door which meant an A&E visit last evening. No broken bones and the wound was treated with Steristrips rather than stitches but he was feeling a bit sorry for himself today. Never a dull moment with children, is there?

We should sleep well tonight, and I hope all Kitcheners also have sweet dreams. Xxx

I was full of good intentions to catch up with everyone whilst on the Cross Country train but it's absolutely crammed...4 coaches only and people standing and sitting in the aisles so I'll be back when I can actually move my arms properly.

Blossoming Thu 24-Aug-23 13:00:50

Thank you SueDonim, it isn’t an allergy, it’s because I have CKD and I take CoCodamol for the nerve pain on medical advice. It was judged the least harmful option to be used as a last resort. I rarely need it and only ever take a single pill when it hurts too much to even do the necessary exercises. I take so many prescription medicines I wouldn’t take anything without first seeking advice.

Grandmabatty Thu 24-Aug-23 13:05:23

This morning I have picked up my prescription, filled in a form for a new doctors, handed it in and, bingo, I'm now with a local surgery. Joined the lovely wee local library and borrowed books, arranged a phone appointment with a lawyer to make a will and poa. Then contacted a local firm to give me a quote for a new front door. Messaged friends to arrange a catch up. Phew! I'm now lying on the couch watching TV before I hoover and phone someone to clear rubbish out of my garden

Grandmabatty Thu 24-Aug-23 13:06:40

I should have said, good afternoon kitcheners. I was just so impressed with my productivity! Have a good afternoon kitcheners 😂

SueDonim Thu 24-Aug-23 14:49:50

I’m sorry you have such pain, Blossoming. I was a wee bit concerned when you mentioned the No-paracetamol and cocodamol. I worked in pharmacy and you’d be surprised at how many people don’t know that Lemsip, for instance, has paracetamol in it and they then take more paracetamol separately.

That’s why chemists always ask those annoying questions about other drugs - it’s for our own good! grin

Blossoming Thu 24-Aug-23 14:53:14

I’m impressed Grandmabatty! I have managed a trip to the supermarket and pharmacy to collect my prescription and do a little shopping. The sun has just come out, it was miserable this morning so definitely a change for the better.

Blossoming Thu 24-Aug-23 14:55:34

I’m glad you mentioned it SueD. It’s surprising how many people don’t know this. I’m always prepared to be asked questions and happy to answer them.

Yiayia4 Thu 24-Aug-23 15:49:33

Hello Kitchen. No chance of catching up but hope everyone is O.K.
I’m feeling very low we still haven’t exchanged contracts every day the solicitor says not much longer!! However today my DGs had his GCSE results he got 10 a stars😁 a very proud Yiayia indeed.
Have lots of things to organise for DS party on Saturday good to keep busy.
Enjoy your afternoon Kitcheners.Special thoughts to Urms.

Hello dear kitcheners, we are home earlier than expected from our holiday (myself, DD and her boys) due to The Imp coming out in chicken pox, when he was getting undressed for shower before going down to dinner we saw the dreaded blisters 🙀

We had spent two days in the theme park
(Paultons Park) so at least they had some good days. I have been upside down, round and round on multiple rollercoasters, I forgot how much I enjoyed them!!! Along with meeting Peppa Pig, her family and friends.

We had been on spot watch as his brother came down with chicken pox two and a half weeks beforehand. We thought he had got away without succumbing (as his cousins had escaped it) but no such luck.

He is feeling very sorry for himself, itchy and sore. Lots of oat baths, antihistamine and soothing cream.

Today I am being extremely lazy, as tomorrow they will be here whilst DD makes an early return to work.

Will endeavour to catch up with the kitchen news, no doubt I shall fail as per usual 😘

Grandmabatty Thu 24-Aug-23 16:15:30

Yiayia many congratulations to your very clever dgs!

annsixty Thu 24-Aug-23 16:21:54

Wow Yia very impressive results for your GS well done to him.
I am not impressed though by the people handling your move, you must be very disheartened each day.
It has been a very quiet day here with sun just this last hour.
I haven’t been out since Monday, must try to get out on my scooter tomorrow.
A little bit of depression has set in, hopefully only short lived.
My GD’s friend has been staying a couple of days and tonight she is cooking us a meal so that is something to look forward to.
I have missed any more news of Mr Corner, I hope he is progressing well and doing as he is told.
I spoke this morning to a friend who was 91 last month, he had a cataract op last Monday, thrilled with the results and can’t wait to get the next one done.
We oldies are very tough.
No more news of Covid I am pleased to hear.
Have the best evening you can everyone.

soop Thu 24-Aug-23 16:39:36

Yia Brilliant results. Hearty congratulations to your dear grandson.

We were to have visited a good friend in the village for morning coffee and a catch-up blether. Sadly, she is suffering from some nasty symptoms.

I have tried my best to catch up with a few outstanding household chores. I am wondering why on earth I used to enjoy the tasks. And why I worked for other folk who needed help around their own homes. Perhaps, with age, one's priorities shift dramatically. hmm

Mr Soop needs a helping hand with sorting through stuff that needs to be relocated in the loft. Oh, the excitement. wink

My love to you all. smile moon

GrannySomerset Thu 24-Aug-23 16:51:53

My DGS passed his ten GCSEs with a mixed bag of grades but good enough for him to take the A levels he wants to do. He has had a hard couple of years including moving in with my DS and DiL after finding life with his mother and sister impossible, so has done better than we had hoped he would. In a family of people who are good at exams he has felt daunted so I am very proud of him.

Blossoming Thu 24-Aug-23 16:54:41

Congratulations to your clever GS Yia. Hope the wait isn’t too much longer on the housing front. Hope the scratchy one is better soon GG. Glad you haven’t succumbed to Covid Soop. Annsixty flowers

I have had some good news, when we returned from the pharmacy there was an. NHS letter waiting to me. I put off opening it until I had put my shopping and meds away and done a few essential chores. I’m ashamed to say that I dread opening them these days. It was from the breast screening service to say that mammograms show no sign of cancer. Happy dance smile

Blossoming Thu 24-Aug-23 16:55:46

Well done to your GS (GrannyS*

Yiayia4 Thu 24-Aug-23 17:25:27

Well done to your DS GrannySomerset So you should be proud of him they all work so hard.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 24-Aug-23 17:32:03

Well done to all the GC who have received their exam results today 👏👏👏

I hope you both manage to dodge Covid soop 🤞🏻

Jaxjacky Thu 24-Aug-23 18:36:43

How dispiriting Yia. But excellent GCSE results for your Grandson.
I did the same with my envelope earlier this year Blossoming it was a phew.
It’s rained on and off today, but I ventured out to an open day at a ceramics studio and bought a small pot which I’ll use as a vase.
Ttfn.

brook2704 Thu 24-Aug-23 19:05:27

Hi to all kitchen pals, another lovely day here, our last evening on Harris as we head back towards Stornoway tomorrow and the ferry home on Saturday..
Sounds like you’re on a mission grandmabatty, well done with getting everything done ✅
Great news Blossoming always a relief when those letters arrive
We’ve had another beautiful coastal walk today, the sun has been shining and I even took my coat off ..We managed to see a sea eagle soaring high in the sky, I tried to take a photo but only got sky. There’s lots of beautiful little sandy coves to explore, very peaceful and scenic and no one else around. Unfortunately I’ve now settled on the sofa and just opened a new tub of Pringles and I can’t stop munching .. these walks are making me really hungry….
Hoping you and Mr Soop continue to stay well soop
Hoping everyone has a lovely evening, take care all and hope you’re able to get out and about soon ann

Grannmarie Thu 24-Aug-23 20:08:44

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. I hope your friend feels better soon, there are lots of nasty bugs doing the rounds just now.

Congratulations to YiaYia's and GrannySomerset's DGsons on their super exam results, lots of hard work involved.

Commiserations to Grannygravy's and SueD's DGsons with the chicken pox and the sore finger, poor wee lambs!

Great news, Blossoming, I'll join you in your happy dance if I may.

Grandmabatty, you've had a very productive morning! What are your plans for your new front door? Some of my neighbours have recently changed to black/ dark grey doors and windows.

Annsixty, enjoy your meal this evening, it's a treat to have it made for you!

Hello 👋, Jaxjacky and Neine.

Nannytopsy, sounds like a great seaside day out with your DGC. Ours have been back at school for over a week already! The Wee Boy and his Mummy and Daddy are off for a week at the beach on Saturday, SW Scotland, 🤞for good weather for them.

Brook, how wonderful to see a sea eagle 🦅 what a special holiday memory. Enjoy the rest of your time on Harris and safe journey home.

Welcome back, Ladyleftfieldlover, from your Australian adventure. I hope your body clock readjusts soon.

DH and I have just booked a week in Aviemore for late September, we're looking forward to that.

TOYA NNGB

brook2704 Thu 24-Aug-23 21:06:19

What a lovely post grannmarie you seem to have included everyone as you always do, so kind ❤️
Your week in Aviemore sounds lovely, it’s one of my favourite places. The Cairngorm mountain railway has reopened now, if you get chance to go up on a clear day the views are amazing x

Scapa1 Thu 24-Aug-23 22:06:39

Hope you and your husband manage to stay free of Covid Soop. Today it was Ring of Brodgar and Birsay. Birsay has the Lord Kitchener memorial it was erected by the people of Orkney in memory of Kitchener the man in the recruitment posters Your Country Needs You. He was in a ship headed for Russia in a diplomatic role in 1916 when it hit a mine planted by the Germans shortly before. You can walk across at low tide.
