Good Morning Wednesday 9th August 2023

Good afternoon all - sorry, I forgot to post earlier! The appearance of Lovely Gardener to do an 'extra' job (he's here on Saturdays) quite discombobulated me, as did our usual wide ranging blether. We were into "the effects of aging" today!
Anyway, it's a bonny autumn day again today on the Angus coast - I actually don't think we will see a return of summer but as I love autumn a prolonged one will be good. An early and prolonged winter definitely not!!
Mizuna thank you for your word picture of the baby wren. When I sit quietly down by my pond the birds get used to my presence - there have been a good few baby blackbirds hopping around me this year, all long legs, wide beaks and unruly feathers.
Good to hear some positive comments about NHS provision - particularly for you Cornergran at a time when you really need support. So glad things are going well with Mr C's convalescence.
I'm with you on the lack of energy today Auntieflo - I really have to learn that doing a big shop after taking a tai chi class is a step too far now, and I'm still paying for my wonderful day in Edinburgh. So today is positively packed with non-achievement. Hey ho.
Yesterday was exam results day in Scotland and DGD3 exceeded her requirements for her uni of choice, as did her boyfriend - a pair of very happy bunnies!
Loving all the tales (and photos) of travels, hols and families on here. Now I must hasten (slowly and gently of course 😉) lunchwards. Have a good day, and see you all tomorrow x

Music club went well but with sad news of the death of one of our recent contributors. Sadly, when we sang happy birthday to another member, I sang his name by mistake!😨 Anyway I dedicated one of my songs to him and also to Sinead O’Connor whose funeral was yesterday, singing My Singing Bird.

DS and DD here and they cooked a nice meal, beef Wellington and there was a delicious Tiramisu from Aldi.

Good morning from coastal West Sussex where the sun is stuck behind some clouds but may pop out again soon. I hope so as I put the duvet cover in the wash.

We’ve been having problems with our Internet so DH phoned service provider yesterday. This morning an Openreach van was outside before 8am. He waited until 8 on the dot to ring the doorbell by which time DH had managed to clear a path to the connection point in the garage. Apparently there were all sorts of faults which are now fixed and our wi fi will be so reliable and speedy that we will be swept away 😂

Auntieflo, I hope you regain your energy after a rest. It is frustrating when you want to do things/go places and your body says ‘no’. Same for Marydoll and a few others on here with long-term health conditions. I get ‘can’t do anything’ days for no apparent reason, though it is often after a day with a long stint at the allotment or in the garden.

Whitewavemark2, the area around Goodwood and Weald and Downland museum is indeed lovely. It is not far from me and our favourite walks are there.

Glad to hear MrC continues to do well.

I am enjoying the photos and descriptions from the holidaymakers, BlueSapphire and now Ladyleftfieldlover in sunny Sydney. The word pictures from home are lovely too - today Mizuna, your description of the baby wren is delightful.

I hear the washing machine ‘ping’ and the sun is out so will go and retrieve my duvet cover. A friend is coming tomorrow so cleaning, tidying and baking will take up the rest of today.

The service engineer turned up bright and early yesterday. The boiler and central heating are in tiptop condition which is good to know.

Morning, we’re out and about in deepest Suffolk with our caravan. Weather has been mixed but forecast is good for the next few days.
Hopefully attached is last nights sunset- yesterday’s weather turned drizzly and chilly in the afternoon but the sunset kind of made amends for that.
Thought to all with worries in whatever form, hope the sunshine today can lift spirits- it does mine. x

Good morning Mick, Annie and all. The sun is shining and bodes well for the rest of the day. I was thinking, to myself, that maybe we could try going into Reading this morning! Last time we went, we met some friends and spent all the time catching up. Wonderful, but nothing achieved. Ah well, there's always another day.
Yesterday was one of those days where I was absolutely whacked. Couldn't do a thing, and it took effort to get up and dressed. I think it was because I pottered in the garden on Monday and possibly overdid things. (When will I learn?) Greyduster, sounds as though you did the same thing.

Morning from a sunny S. Yorks. The garden does rather run to seed at this time of year but thanks to the gardener on `Monday is tidy and many flowers still active a while longer.

To follow Cornergrans news my yesterdays good NHS practice story.
I actually live outside the GP area of my pretty good and of course familiar and known practice.
Permission was given ages ago by a lead GP, but I got a letter at lunch time saying, "you have to move practice within two weeks".

Rung them in much trepidation and explained was in the middle of investigations x and y etc, already booked follow up with GP's in 3 weeks. Also- the truth - I intend to move within the year which will bring me back onto the area.

got a phone call back within 20 minutes to say, "no worries, stay".

My car is in today for the 3rd time and I hope sincerely the last for a fault that has restricted use to "round the corner drives" leaving me feeling cooped up.

Bests for poorlies and family poorlies and may today be sunny with some good outings and gardening and crafts.

Good morning from a dry NE, seems a little warmer too or maybe the heating is on.
Family sent lots of photos of their London holiday, museums, boat trip and last night they went to see the musical Six. GDs loved it. DS keeps telling me how expensive it is to eat out as a family, I don't think it is just London.
SIL is coming today and we will do the shopping and then sort some paperwork. Still no joy from bank, why do big high street banks not answer the phone ? I have tried sending messages through my online bank account and they just get ignored.

Went to my art club yesterday did a bit more to an acrylic painting but don’t think I improved it. Today I have my Sainsburies delivery 🚚. A doctors appointment this pm followed by a hospital appointment, then flake out! Probably won’t have time post tomorrow. DH and I are taking art in a photoshoot!! - watch this space on Friday!

The poorly 8yr old had chicken pops come up all over his face yesterday, they are in his ears, mouth and even one in his navel, lots of oat baths and piriton, poor little soul. The Imp was on form and wants pops like his brother 🤣🤣🤣

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny and warmer Carlisle.
Yesterday featured a trip into town to have my modified denture fitted. The dentist was confident I could wear it right away even though it goes over the recent tooth extraction site. Well, I certainly can't eat with it in, the extraction site is still tender under pressure so I'll wait a bit longer plus I'm not sure the denture is quite perfect so may have to return.
I took the opportunity to visit Wilko's. Whilst there is still plenty on the shelves, gaps are beginning to appear and it is obvious they are not restocking or bringing new season's lines in so no plant bulbs to be had. I did get the last two of one of the items I was looking to stock up on. They would be a sad loss to the city I think, they take a lot of space in the indoor market, which seems to struggle, and I can't imagine anything replacing them.

Today, more housework, more admin and I really should take advantage of the fine weather to take a walk.

I hope you are better gM, that sounds a very unpleasant complaint to suffer.

Good morning from sunny - but definitely cooler- Foxyland. It was quite misty even autumnal when I took the Foxyhound for her bedtime toddle and I found myself muttering “Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness….”etc
Gardener this morning to plant up my new big planters and a selection of herbs in the terracotta pots . Then a Waitrose delivery and then? I don’t know.
A visit to the hairdresser perked me up yesterday after a temporary panic when I couldn’t release the handbrake on this shiny and very new courtesy car I have! It is the stiffest handbrake I have known (a manual one) and I just could not shift the button. Or perhaps I am just getting weak. It’s a Nissan Micro apparently and also a manual and I am gradually getting used to it but driving verycarefully!
Kind thoughts to all, thinking especially of absent friends, those with worries or health issues and wishing you all a pleasant day.

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk. I hope it’s a bit warmer than yesterday. We continued to sit outside in our friend’s lovely garden for afternoon tea but I was glad I’d taken a jacket to drape around my shoulders.

Today I must clear the pile of ironing before we set off for our cruise around the British Isles on Friday. We did a similar itinerary many years ago with Cunard but there are several different ports to visit this time.

We spent a glorious day on the earlier cruise in Belfast with a friend I had met in India in the late 60s when we were both volunteers. We talked non stop all day and luckily our husbands got on very well and found things of interest to chat about.

Hoping for some ☀️ next week and all those with worries and ill health find some comfort.

Good morning from a hospital somewhere in Essex.
DH is having a small operation today, although there has been a lack of correspondence, and apparently it should be tomorrow. Hopefully all will be well.
I am sitting and waiting, goodness know how long for, to drive him home afterwards.
I have coffee and my book.
It is also my eldest granddaughter's 15th birthday today.

Good morning Mick and all from a bright and sunny Oxfordshire.
12 large bags of books went to the charity shop yesterday, he said Wow, which I chose to believe was ‘good, thank you’ but although he said he was ok to take books I think he wasn’t expecting quite so many. I’ll need to take some more but I’ll ring him first, I don’t have any carrier bags left anyway.

MrOops is taking MissOops and nephew to the coast today as they need a break, I’ll have the dog.

Nephew had his hospital appointment brought forward from sometime never to last night, his next appointment has been brought forward from June 2024 to 10 days time, thank goodness, maybe he will soon get some relief.

On their way home they will visit MrOops sister, her husband is having Palliative care but seems to be doing very well, hopefully the 6 month prognosis will be extended, he’s a lovely chap. Then on their way home MrOops will take them to the houses they have all lived in when they were children, we will be moving at some time even further away and they probably won’t get a chance to revisit again to have a wander.
So apart from the dog I too have an empty.
WWM2 we visited the Downland and Weald last year, the scenery is stunning.
Cornergran so pleased you are getting the support you both need without having to fight for it.
Hope all who are and have traveled have a good time.
Thoughts are with those who aren’t feeling so chipper today enjoy the sun everyone.

I didn't get to sleep until 3am, so feeling a bit off this morning.

Glad to hear things are progressing for the Corners, what a relief to have Mr C back home. Corner, try and find some time to rest, but easier said than done.

When my class studied WW2 Ash, I used to put tape on the windows to make the classroom look like an authentic classroom from WW2. The dressed classroom seemed like a great idea at the time, until I tried to take the tape off the windows at the end of the topic.

Mr MD last night, surprisingly offered to take me out today, but I'm struggling to find the energy to get up and dressed. Nothing very exciting, just Braehead shopping mall. I had thought of going when he was golfing, but he doesn't think I'm well enough to drive, due to my painful joints. A visit to Primani is needed to stock up my Dollie stash of emergency clothes, the ones I have are too small and I need replacement light bulbs, which have a five year guarantee.
I shall be insisting on eating out!

Yesterday we looked after DGS all day and enjoyed a lovely hike up a big hill with gorgeous views and a picnic at the top. DHs new knee did really well again and he was pleased with it, but we were both tired later. DGS is safely back home now so I’m back to my normal routine, the gym then a bit of gardening. There’s a new salsa dance class at the gym that starts this evening with a new instructor so I might give that a try later too

Am recovering from making some 12 lbs of plum jam yesterday - very satisfying but more time on my feet than I am used to. Out to meet friends for coffee and then stewing the remaining Victorias for the freezer. Just hope this unwonted largesse from the tree is not its final production.

So good to read Cornergran’s post and hope things continue to progress well. Full marks to the surgery for such good support.
