Wondering if any GNs talk back to Tv with answers for The Chase/ Lingo/ University Challenge/Eggheads or Jeremy Vine et al .. always feel a bit High when I guess/answer correctly😊

4allweknow Sat 12-Aug-23 14:54:28

Of course, isn't it obligatory. The quiz that gets me is Connect. So pleased when I manage to answer any question.

Cagsy, back in the day when I used to watch University Challenge I thought the subtitles always helped. I need them anyway.

JPB123 Sat 12-Aug-23 14:28:35

Love Only Connect and University Challenge, the Chase is quite good, but can’t stand Richard Osman so don’t watch those that he’s on.

Hammo Sat 12-Aug-23 14:22:50

That made me smile, GrannyGravy13!! I too can come up with bizarre answers … from where🤷‍♀️? Sometimes surprise myself. We’d make an interesting psychological study, you and me 🤪!

Cagsy Sat 12-Aug-23 14:08:47

Oh yes, mind you if I get 3 right in University Challenge I feel victorious 😂, I feel pleased if I understand many of the questions to be honest.
The length of the questions on Mastermind drive me mad, would any GNetter have enough knowledge on any subject to be able to do the first round and if so what would be your specialist subject?
Being very mean I know but do you ever wonder about some of the contestants? Some seem to have very little general knowledge and I wonder why they put themselves in that position.

I am addicted to University Challenge in particular, and Only Connect. As far as I’m concerned, they exist to test me. I often don’t know or care who has won onscreen.

Me too. I'm sure that they help to keep my brain active. DH does better than me because his recall is faster. At least that's my excuse.

pooohbear2811 Sat 12-Aug-23 13:35:52

we record them and watch either eggheads or chase while we eat tea, like to answer them out loud as well.
Don't mind a bit of Mastermind but not a lover of University Challenge, don't get Pointless at all, and topping point the questions are designed to be easy so no challenge in that for watching.

Musicgirl Sat 12-Aug-23 13:29:04

Oh, yes. Countdown is my favourite, particularly the maths rounds. When there are several of us together, it gets pretty noisy. Unless there is a reason why we haven’t been able to watch it, mum and l ring each other every day and compare notes on our own triumphs (o lack of them) and what we thought of the contestants. We lik other quizzes but Countdown is our favourite.

Quizzer Sat 12-Aug-23 12:30:53

I have actually been on quite a few TV quiz shows with varying success.
I still have to give all the answers at home. My best moment is when I know an answer that the eggheads/university students/masterminds fail on!

I’m in a quizz team so the chase is a must.
Pointless is pointless.
I refuse to watch or listen to jeramy vine. A shame as my team were on Eggheads some years ago.

Hooray!! Someone else who cannot stand Jeremy Vine - ( or should he be called jammy Vine?)

To add to the list I quite like the newish one on Channel 5 - called Puzzling, I think

dogsmother Sat 12-Aug-23 12:16:13

Always interacting and shouting, Family thing I think we all love them. A sister won the weakest link, and many, many years before that even another sister won a prize appearing on Take your Pick. Although that was more of a game show probably.

I watch tipping point and shout out the answers, contestants are often very poor on history questions but I am rubbish at sport and pop music so each to their own.

Ditto.
I watch most quiz games. I find them better than the endless violent series, murders, threats, etc.

sodapop Sat 12-Aug-23 12:13:37

The Chase and Lingo for me. Too much unnecessary chat on Pointless makes it boring.

EEJit Sat 12-Aug-23 12:12:57

The only one I bother with these days is the 1% Club. I got bored with Tipping Point and The Chase, it's time the were given a rest, they're on 5 days a week 52 weeks a year with so called celebrity versions at weekend. Even Beloved has had enough of them, and this a woman who can watch property programmes all day Saturday and Sunday when she's doing nothing else.

If I do watch that I start shouting "oh, don't be So Stupid!!"
Then realise I'm hopeless at film and pop music 😁

knspol Sat 12-Aug-23 12:05:11

My favourite is Only Connect, so difficult (for me) but when I get a correct answer makes me feel really good. The missing vowels and the wall are OK it's the others that amaze me when they're so left field.

I'm addicted to television quizzes too. University Challenge too science based these days for normal mortals?!! Glad a lot of you like Only Connect. My son is one of the question setters..........added difficulty for me when I watch it is trying to work out which questions he's written !!! I'm totally addicted to Countdown - hardly ever miss an episode. Good for the brain...

Jules59 Sat 12-Aug-23 11:40:14

I’m always chuffed if I know UC answers and proudly let my DS1 & DD2 know, as both went to uni, that I’m not as thick as I think …!
Only Connect is good too!
BTW I live on my own and always talk out loud, just to myself ….!!!

Scottiebear Sat 12-Aug-23 11:32:59

We watch Pointless and Countdown daily. Think they can help to keep minds sharp. Although we do sometimes find ourselves almost dozing off during Countdown. 😁

LizVck Sat 12-Aug-23 11:31:26

My DH and I love the quizzes and always shout the answers, We've even been on some together we went on David Dickinson's Name Your Price and won £5.000,DH won £10,000 on Impossible I have been on Winning Combinations and was out first. Even if you lose, the people running the shows pay expenses and hotel bills if you have to stay overnight, it's great fun.

Bazza Sat 12-Aug-23 11:27:30

I like the Chase and 1% club but think Pointless is very aptly named. I also like University Challenge and Only Connect and am flushed with success if I manage to answer a question correctly.

Charleygirl5 Sat 12-Aug-23 11:24:32

I enjoy Tipping Point and The Chase. I am no longer quick enough mentally to compete. I am amazed at how little some of the youngsters know.
