If you awoke one morning to find yourself in a book, who would you be? Shall I ask for your second choice as surely everyone has a yearning to be Bathsheba Everdene !
I have always loved Cassandra Mortmain. She speaks to my heart as much now as when I first read I Capture the Castle many moons ago.

I think my choices are all what could be called light weight characters from popular literature due to the fact that I overdosed on the classics at school.

Miss Read of the Fairacre and Thrush Green books - a wonderful wry sense of humour and a thoroughly useful life.

Frieda Klein in the Nikki French series - clever, confident, self contained and she has a lovely little house all to herself!

Doesn't she have a stalker?

Pleased to hear it, Skye17.

Skye17 Sat 12-Aug-23 16:10:29

It has to be Elizabeth Bennet.

Oh yes GrannyGravy…for her perfect hairstyle too.

Loving these, I think it shows how wholesome, spirited and clever we all!

Agatha Raisin by M C Beaton, if only for her fabulous handbag collection and beautiful home.

Lovetopaint037 Sat 12-Aug-23 11:14:42

Jo March of course.

I'd love to be Granny Weatherwax. To be able to do magic and practice headology.
Or perhaps Jane, swinging through the jungle with Tarzan.

I don’t want to be an adult, so I’ll opt for Drina in Jean Estoril’s Drina books.

I’d like to be happy, carefree, loving, motherly Ma Larkin from The Darling Buds of May or maybe it would be better to be Mariette and have Ma as my cosy mum.

Yes, that’s a brilliant choice 👍🏻

Ailidh Sat 12-Aug-23 08:46:52

Emma Woodhouse.

I'm such an over thinker about what I do and people's reactions to me, whereas Emma is kind, confident and oblivious.

My mid circles round several candidates but rests with Jo March.

Esmay Sat 12-Aug-23 08:29:26

Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo .
I'd just love to be as fearless and strong as she is .

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 12-Aug-23 07:39:46

Jo March for me too.

Mr. Darcy; I get Elizabeth Bennet (and I'm loaded).

Cold Fri 11-Aug-23 23:28:41

I'd love to be Elizabeth Bennet .... and marry Mr Darcy

I'd also like to be Anne Cleeve's Vera - where women of acertain age are respected professionals and take no nonsense from anyone

Part of me would like to be Pippi Longstocking and just do what I want

Bella23 Fri 11-Aug-23 22:59:10

My choice of Rhett would have been Gregory Peck

Bella23 Fri 11-Aug-23 22:57:01

Another Scarlett O'Hara...... I like to think that "Tomorrow is another day
.Feisty strong-minded and knew what she wanted.

NotSpaghetti Fri 11-Aug-23 22:45:32

I don't know! ... but most definitely not Bathsheba Everdene who ended up with "whenever you look up there I shall be— and whenever I look up, there will be you" - Mr. Boring - Gabriel Oak!
