Can you think of anyone ? Anyone at all ? Searching through the political spectrum I honestly couldn’t come up with a single person . America ? Nah. Australia? Nah. U.K - now I don’t know them well enough to say but no one leaps out at me. There must be someone, somewhere though.

How wonderful CurlyWhirly, the world could do with more of that sort of people.

BigBertha1 Mon 14-Aug-23 10:10:58

This is a difficult question. I think I would say the working royals and probably the PM who looks like a beleaguered man trying to do his best but its all beyond him. David Attenborough certainly and I agree with kittylester about Vicky McClure who did look lovely as well.
I suppose I should say DH who battles on with me being horrible to him most of the time and supporting me all the time. As for other public figures I cant think of any at the moment. Good question though.

Politicians sadly lacking from the lists so far. Living ones, that is.

kittylester Mon 14-Aug-23 10:06:02

Today, my respect goes to acrress Vicky McClure and Jonny Owen who got married at the weekend. They got married at the weekend and asked that donations be made to either the Dementia Choir or to a small charity called Stand Against MND (SAM).

They both do such a lot for both charities.

Sadio Mane - a Senegalese Liverpool football star. He provides €70 basic income to people in a poor region in Senegal direct from his own salary. He says he has no need for fast cars, expensive jewellery, jet planes etc and prefers to help his fellow countrymen and has built schools and a stadium and says that he would rather that his people receive a little of what life has given him.

Curlywhirley you’ve just made me admire someone I’ve never even heard of. What a wonderful person he must be.

Siope Mon 14-Aug-23 09:56:10

Curlywhirly I didn’t know about this. I agree, definitely impressive

Foxygloves Mon 14-Aug-23 09:48:47

Not many!

There are certainly countless who are the opposite of high profile who are doing a wonderful job as unsung heroes - but figures in the public eye? Have to think a bit. hmmhmm

JenniferEccles Mon 14-Aug-23 09:46:04

I I think this is a very difficult question to answer because unless we personally know a public figure, then what we see and what our impression of them is based on, is the image of themselves they want the word to see.
This could be entirely false of course as we have seen over the years with high-profile, much loved public figures who have turned out to be anything but the wholesome image they projected.

How amazing. I didn’t know that.

Many of those listed above, also Marcus Rashford. There are many people doing wonderful things to help others.

CatsCatsCats Mon 14-Aug-23 09:37:58

Easy peasy - Volodymyr Zelenskyy - a true hero.

Oldnproud Mon 14-Aug-23 09:16:29

Dolly Parton

Casdon Mon 14-Aug-23 09:15:47

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. I also admire Orla Guerin. Both very brave women.

Bridie22 Mon 14-Aug-23 07:19:22

I also admire JKRowling and all the members of the women's rights network who fight to keep women their rights.
Also like the Princess Royal,

TerriBull Mon 14-Aug-23 07:05:10

Currently JK Rowling and Sharon Davies.

I would consider William and Catherine good ambassadors for our country, definitely David Attenborough. I'm sure there are others, who haven't sprung to mind but no doubt will down the line.

Zelensky on a world stage is the exception. Generally politicians per se are some of the least admirable people, look no further than the US, has there ever been such a woeful choice

YorkLady Mon 14-Aug-23 07:01:21

Kevin Sinfield. His charity work for MND is just amazing.

Calendargirl Mon 14-Aug-23 06:59:26

The Princess Royal.

kittylester Mon 14-Aug-23 06:55:37

I agree about Prince William and would include his wife.

Have to think about anyone else.

fancythat Mon 14-Aug-23 06:37:35

It will take some thinking.
I was thinking this the other day.

sassysaysso Mon 14-Aug-23 04:34:50

I'm surprised I'm posting this but I do have respect for Prince William.

Juliet27 Mon 14-Aug-23 01:56:27

Yes, definitely

Whitewavemark2 Mon 14-Aug-23 01:45:36

David Attenborough
