Can you think of anyone ? Anyone at all ? Searching through the political spectrum I honestly couldn’t come up with a single person . America ? Nah. Australia? Nah. U.K - now I don’t know them well enough to say but no one leaps out at me. There must be someone, somewhere though.

Chris Packham and Greta Thunberg definitely.

Yvette Cooper and Ed Balls from the political side of life for me.

Antony Joshua who has donated millions to support amateur boxing as well as charities. I don't much like boxing but I admire someone who doesn't pull up the ladder as they climb.

Did you listen to the interview he gave on The Rest is Politics Leading? Alastair and Rory said it was one of the best I interviews in the series. Because of it I stayed up late on Saturday night to listen to his fight.

No, missed that one, thanks for the heads up.

I have heard him speaking on the radio a few times - always humble and eloquent.

The entire England Women’s football team and their manager

Several of those above who didn't "pull the ladder up after them". That footballer story really moved me and people like him.

FrankandEarnest Wed 16-Aug-23 17:02:02

Fiona McNeill (and her team of ‘girls’ of course)

maddyone Wed 16-Aug-23 10:45:08

Princess Anne - she’s a no nonsense, get on with the job girl, she told a would be kidnapper wielding a gun when told to get out of the car ‘not bloody likely’ and was a wonderful support to her mother and now her brother.

Political - nope, can’t think of anyone in the present, Winston Churchill from the past.

J. K. Rowling - for her praiseworthy defence of women’s rights

halfpint1 Wed 16-Aug-23 10:35:00

You're probably right Annie, but even if it was said, it was a private conversation between two consenting adults, not for public consumption. The person (s) who leaked this should be thoroughly ashamed. Also it was, if it happened at all, a very long time ago and should have been binned years ago.

why not let it drop then instead of turning the thread into something else. you made your point . no need to go on and on.

Sadio Mane - a Senegalese Liverpool football star. He provides €70 basic income to people in a poor region in Senegal direct from his own salary. He says he has no need for fast cars, expensive jewellery, jet planes etc and prefers to help his fellow countrymen and has built schools and a stadium and says that he would rather that his people receive a little of what life has given him.

What a super star he is. I wonder how many other "stars" are so magnanimous .

Liam Halligan - British economist. Talks a lot of sense.
HRH Prince William. A safe pair of hands.
Nigel Farage. Sorry, that was just to wind you up. 🤣

Anniebach Mon 14-Aug-23 13:23:25

Like much which has been said about Charles, lies, he never said it .

Jaberwok Mon 14-Aug-23 12:59:47

Oh for goodness sake, what a completely ridiculous comment.Tbh I'm speechless that a private intimate conversation between two lovers many years ago that was hacked and scurrilously put into the public domain to cause maximum embarrassment, is being dragged up again on what I and I think others consider a reasonably serious intelligent forum. Have you never had a conversation with a loved one that you would be appalled at someone else listening to and making public? Horrible comment, I'm out of here.

Definitely Camilla, and HM, I believe him to be a good, compassionate man. The late Queen is a hard, almost impossible act to follow. Prince William and Catherine. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. The Dukes of Kent and Gloucester. Princess Anne. Lots of unsung heroes, but no one else in public life even remotely springs to mind.

There's no way I can respect anyone who wanted to be a tampax!

Riley Gaines - America

NotSpaghetti Mon 14-Aug-23 11:33:51

Jim Gamble - used to be head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre.
Heard him speak a few times.

Impressive and astute.

Not sure he meets your "high profile" criteria?

MrsThatcher Mon 14-Aug-23 10:52:22

George Michael who gave millions to charity on the quiet.

halfpint1 Mon 14-Aug-23 10:27:32

Definitely Queen Camilla. A lady who has weathered the storms of life like many of us and she's done it in full public critism. I like her smile, her no nonsense attitude and her sense of dress style. Every picture of her makes me smile.
