...... just had a message from a well known organisation signed by someone with a very obviously female name. After her name, in red, and in brackets it said (she/her). What the heck!?

Who would have believed that the Women’s Institute accepts transwomen whether they have fully transitioned or not 😳

What about the natal women in our Institute who have sadly been in abusive relations, who will protect them?

It’s a disgrace.

Like most people, in my everyday life and dealings with people, I really don't care what gender they are - or what sex they are either.

What I do object to is the assumption, by some that women are, somehow, vulnerable, frail and weak - what an insult! We're not special and in need of protection.

It’s a bit of a good natured “thing” in our family - we oldies think it’s all a bit daft, our AC and older GC think it’s cool. One DD bought me this bag recently, as a bit of a joke…

I am at a loss to understand why this is a 'joke'. It is intended to be inclusive, to demonstrate that the carrier is empathetic and open-minded. Is that funny?

We were in our local supermarket the other week and my DH nudged and nodded in the direction of a person in front of us. I thought what the @~*&. A lovely long summer frock with trainers and a summery hat on the head of a man with a big ginger beard. I didn't know whether to think he, she, they, them but whatever they wanted to be they were still male.

It's not about what HE wanted to be, it's in all likelihood just another way for men to abuse women. It's called autogynephilia - I don't recommend that you look it up, but if you do, don't do so just after you've eaten.

For those of you who appear to find gender identity ideology amusing, it certainly isn’t. It's homophobic, misogynistic and causes great harm to children (both physically and mentally).

For those of you who wish to uncritically adopt this evil ideology and “go along with it” - I respectfully suggest you do some further research.

Sorry to lower the tone, but this just made me smile on Instagram grin

Smileless2012 Wed 16-Aug-23 18:38:21

Well if "they feel a connection to some aspects of a traditional male" why isn't labelling toilet facilities men or males enough?

Who needs to know if a man using them may "recognise their non-binary identity" and what does that even mean?

Me too Scribbles.

As we age it is usual to become more resistant to change.

I'm not resistant to change but I am resistant to daft.

OK Wenmore if my ignorance is so horrific then enlighten me please.
What does Male Non Binary mean?

It means that they feel a connection to some aspects of a traditional male while recognising their non-binary identity.

Quite simply that translates as having your cake and eating it 😉

I don't believe it's true either Mollygo but then again, truth seems to have little to do with it because the truth is, you cannot change your sex.

Louella12 Wed 16-Aug-23 18:15:16

I don't want to know anything to be honest, Wenmore

I'm not interested. Live and let live is my motto.

I do wonder if we'd have this amount of interest in all this if we didn't have social media.

I doubt it.

Mollygo Wed 16-Aug-23 18:13:52

It’s appalling to hear that, according to some posters, all young people think lying is the way to go to get what you want.

I don’t believe it’s true, but that’s what those posters are saying.

Doodledog Wed 16-Aug-23 17:53:47

The condescension to older people on a site for over 50s is as depressing as the way in which women's concerns are so easily brushed aside.

Age has no bearing on the ability to think, or the right to hold an opinion.

I've never heard of male non binary and a quick search didn't find any info at all

Non binary, address as male (he/him/his). Noone really needs to know anything else.

Moonwatcher how do you know the gender of that person.?Could be a false beard. Anyway, does it matter - as long as they are happy with the way they dress and look

.Yes, older people are so resistant to this sort of change in thinking. But, then odler people ahve ALWAYS (right back to Socrates) thought that the younger generation was stupid, degenerate, rude, disrespectful, etc. etc.

I find it weird that people on here actually seem to find their own ignorance on this matter funny. I find it rather sad!!!!

How pompous, respect needs to be earned, and I'm not letting a very small minority of people decide what I say or think. This very small minority have no right to alter my safety to be a woman. As for a bearded man in a dress. Well each to their own, but respect,no.

I don’t find supporting lies funny at all and it’s beyond sad (however many ! you add) that people think those who deny the lies are weird.

Ignorance of biological truth is not funny however old you are.
Accepting lies about sex allows cheating by those like Liar Thomas or other dishonest behaviour to go ahead. Younger people don’t believe that’s right, any more than older people.
