Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister God help us 🙏

What do you think?

Oreo Sun 20-Aug-23 14:13:51

I do have a sinking feeling about Angela Rayner in a top position and bet a lot of people do too.Yvette Cooper is my choice but the very left wing will make sure Rayner gets the job.Starmer tried early on to demote her but it didn’t work.

I like Angela.

Today's politicians are so bland.

Angela isn't bland.

Boris Johnson wasn’t bland.See the flaw in your thinking?

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 14:06:51

Not sure that I’d call that a lot of education but clearly we all have different ideas of what constitutes a lot of education.

Nannarose Sun 20-Aug-23 14:02:05

She trained in social care, including learning British Sign Language at college, and she trained in negotiation as a Trades union representative.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:54:44

What education is that Nannarose?

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:51

Oh yes, also Rachel Reeves.

Nannarose Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:32

Angela Rayner is not uneducated at all. She did a lot of education as an adult, and values true education highly.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:07

Either Jess Phillips or Evette Cooper would be a huge improvement.

I think that Yvette Cooper or Rachel Reeves would make a good Leader of the Labour Party. I also like Ed Balls although he is no longer an M.P.
Unfortunately there are not many M.P.'s with any integrity nowadays, it was so different years ago when we looked up to such people. Perhaps their secrets were better hidden, who knows?

Horrible thread total by the way nicenanny

The snobs on here are remarkable you couldn’t get anyone more uncouth than the Etonian Johnson his language around racism, omg , his whatsit (I won’t use the word ) up the wall, didn’t he bring his then girlfriend into number 10 (shakes head in despair) but because Angela Reynor has a full on accent and is not afraid to speak her mind she s persona non grata
Holds head in despair

I prefer Jess Phillips if the Labour Deputy Leader has to be a woman.

I for Evette Cooper. Articulate educated and measured.

It's snobbery pure and simple.

It's the same snobbery that made the most worthless individual in the UK into Prime Minister with a party with an 80 seat majority in parliament.

I think that 80 seat majority was, rightly or wrongly, about "getting Brexit done". Nothing to do with snobbery about BJ's background.

I disagree, Baggs. I think that Johnson was a huge factor in securing that majority.

I agree that Johnson was a huge factor but I don't think it had anything to do with snobbery.

My choice would be Yvette Cooper, an MP since 1997, more experienced along with being extremely articulate and on top of her brief.

Yes, but perhaps as Leader.

I'm not a huge fan of Rayner but such double standards in this post, surely when compared to other MPs in high office her personal habits are pretty OK?

Drinks a lot on holiday with friends but not see hung over at the airport after partying in Italy with ex KGB whilst Foreign Secretary
Vapes but doesn't smoke cigarettes and vote against banning smoking in cars with children like Coffey (Health Sec)
Uses robust language but has empathy and an understanding of the plight of people less fortunate unlike Anderson (Conservative dep chair)
As far as we know doesn't do lines of cocaine, consort with prostitutes, give lucrative contracts to friends, try to sell themselves to companies for ÂŁ10K per hour etc etc
Had a child whilst a teenager, whom she cares for and lives with but hasn't got an unidentified number of children with 3 wives and other undisclosed liaisons. Too many MPs to mention
Actually I'm beginning to warm to her, compared to some of the people we have had recently in positions of power, she's pretty unremarkable!

Yes, the hypocrisy is so flagrant and mind-blowing.

Quite.

Oh get rid of Starmer, he won’t be any good. There must be someone better who should walk in if they are half way decent.

I write as person who has always voted Labour in both national and local elections, but will not do so again whilst Starmer is in charge, but that is another story. I just wanted people to be know where I was on the political spectrum.

I think Angela Rayner epitomises everything thing that is wrong in politics nowadays. Yes the Labour Party was built by intelligent people who had to educate themselves whilst working , usually in heavy industry, often spoke with a pronounced accent, but were always grammatically correct.

Angela Rayner seems to think it's fine to speak as she does, to sit in the House of Commons with very little decorum, and seems to think that having a child at 16 years is something to brag about.
Unfortunately these are things that are lauded in some quarters, but not by me. It only gives me another reason not to vote Labour in the next elecion.

So, you don’t like Starmer and you don’t like Raynor, who is at the opposite end of the Labour Party. Can you tell me who you would want to be leader and deputy leader please?

Callistemon21 Sun 20-Aug-23 13:07:12

Angela Rayner is ignorant and uneducated, and has taken no steps to remedy the situation.

The thought of her as Deputy Prime Minister is appalling, but has a lot to do with the power of the Trade Unions.

Is this the best the Labour Party can produce?

Agree. She’s repulsive.

👏👏👏*eazybee*. The person who would be in charge in Starmer’s absence? Unthinkable.

Can anyone truly imagine her on the world stage?
