Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister God help us 🙏

What do you think?

Ilovecheese Sun 20-Aug-23 10:54:01

Fine by me.

Casdon Sun 20-Aug-23 10:58:46

Do you know something we don’t Nicenanny3?
I’d prefer Yvette Cooper.

I like Angela Rayner she s plain spoken says it as it is yes she ll do me fine

MaizieD Sun 20-Aug-23 11:02:28

I know she's not an Eton & Oxford educated , Bullingdon Club member, nor is she incredibly wealthy, but, apart from that, what is your objection to her?

She represents a far, far greater proportion of the population than they do...

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:02:51

😄😄😄 honestly if that all that is worrying you I would think that the country would say “bring it on”

It would seem that most women don’t agree with your sentiment.

Labour lead by 28 points amongst women.

Callistemon21 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:04:55

Have I missed something?

Like an election?

Glorianny Sun 20-Aug-23 11:05:29

So why not Nicenanny3. She's a great example of a hard working aspirational woman. She grew up in poverty, was a single mum at 16, has worked as a carer and is now a grandmother. She seems to me someone more in touch with the real world than most other politicians.

Exactly. would prefer Yvette however.

Nnanny- could you kindly explain why you object so strongly?

Labour's deputy leader made light of her lifestyle as she acknowledged that her personality clashed with that of leader Sir Keir Starmer's, whom she described as being like a civil servant.

Speaking to the comedian Matt Forde at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Ms Rayner said that she had just returned from a holiday in Spain where she had been drinking from mid-afternoon to sunrise the next morning with little food and only the occasional glass of water.(The Daily Mail)

Nicenanny3 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:11:58

I think she's uncouth and vulgar besides being uneducated that my opinion. Just a light hearted thread that's why I put it in Chat. Actually I think Starmer would like to get rid of her (she's the Unions patsy).

JaneJudge Sun 20-Aug-23 11:13:15

I don't mind her but I'd also prefer Yvette Cooper.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:16:00

Until Starmer wins the election, we won’t know who if anyone (it isn’t compulsory) is deputy PM.

MaizieD Sun 20-Aug-23 11:17:31

Goodness me. The Adored Boris wasn't averse to a bit of hard partying (even with Russian spies or when it was a criminal offence)

Talk about double standards...

NotSpaghetti Sun 20-Aug-23 11:17:32

What do you think?

I think this is a strange thread NiceNanny

MaizieD Sun 20-Aug-23 11:19:41

P.S. The Adored Boris was also cr*p at his job. Not, I think, an accusation which could be flung at Angela

MayBee70 Sun 20-Aug-23 11:25:34

Just remind me who’s deputy leader of the current government. Does he( whoever he is) inspire confidence? Hasn’t he replaced someone who left under a cloud?? For what it’s worth I don’t think Angela will be deputy leader because she’d be better deployed elsewhere. I’d like it to be Yvette. Either way, I can’t wait for the cabinet to be full of people who genuinely want to make this country a better place. I mean, what exactly has Coffey done to improve the environment??

I think there's plenty of strange threads on GN, scroll past if you don't like them, that's what I do.

I'm on a few Forums on Facebook and one of the reasons they give for not voting Labour is Rayner, it's a slow Sunday just thought I'd throw it out there

At least she's being truthful.

Since you appear to know little about Angela Rayner here is an extract from her Wikipedia page.

"Rayner was born and raised in Stockport, where she attended the state secondary Avondale School. She left school aged 16 whilst pregnant and without any qualifications. She later trained in social care at Stockport College and worked for the local council as a care worker. She eventually became a trade union representative within Unison, during which time she joined the Labour Party. Selected to contest Ashton‑under‑Lyne in 2014 and elected for the seat at the 2015 general election, she was appointed Shadow Minister for Pensions by Jeremy Corbyn in January 2016."

It seems to me that she has had more life experience than many of the Tory MPs who went to Oxbridge and have no empathy with a large part of the UK population.

At least she's honest about her view of Starmer.

Blossoming Sun 20-Aug-23 11:55:23

Uncouth, vulgar and uneducated? That strikes me as snobbery. The only thing I don’t like about her is her belief that humans can change sex.
