Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister God help us 🙏

What do you think?

MayBee70 Sun 20-Aug-23 20:49:34

Could somebody post that picture of Coffey smoking that cigar?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 20-Aug-23 20:07:48

I cannot believe how many think that she would not be an embarrassment as deputy PM. Uncouth and uneducated. Appalling.

Rayner is an embarrassment, not a threat - depending of course on who you’re trying to appeal to,

I don't find her embarrassing, she is as much a product of her upbringing and opportunities in life as most people. She didn't choose any of it but what she has done is turn her disadvantages into something positive and for that I have huge admiration. I'd rather like her to tone down some of her language but I think that says more about me than it does about her.

Oldbat1 Sun 20-Aug-23 18:46:21

Well I like her. She says it as it is.

VioletSky Sun 20-Aug-23 18:30:55

Great choice, well done her

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 18:29:50

Who is the woman that gave the finger to the press?

Remind me who is uncooff and vulgar😄😄😄

westendgirl Sun 20-Aug-23 18:23:50

Is Rayner more of an embarassment than the Tory ministers trotted out to recite that day's script on the various news channels. You know the ones I mean. They can't even answer a simple question.
Come on !

westendgirl Sun 20-Aug-23 18:20:09

Why do you say she is an embarassment. ?Would that be more of an embarassment than Johnson or Hancock or indeed Truss ?It's rather a glib statement unqualified ,as it is.

.or Truss

MayBee70 Sun 20-Aug-23 18:13:22

Is she more embarrassing than Dorries? Is that possible??

One of the reasons people in senior positions get rid of people is because they perceive them as a threat.
Another is that some people aren’t afraid to point out that the emperor has no clothes.
That doesn’t make you a good leader. Sooner or later your going to be found out.

Who has Starmer seen as a threat?

I’m not sure it’s relevant when we’re currently living under a government where four prime ministers have been forced out since 2010, and a total of 39 Cabinet ministers have, excluding reshuffles either been sacked, resigned in disgrace, or quit with an axe to grind at the government. I don’t see Starmer surpassing that somehow.

The labour deputy prime minister doesn’t have to exist. Starmer does not have to appoint one.

John Prescott made a colourful DPM though.

I prefer Jess Phillips if the Labour Deputy Leader has to be a woman.

Here hear 👏👏👏

Personally, I think that the only person that we could have TRUSTED would have been Corbyn!

He couldn't make his mind up whether he was for or against the EU!

I know Johnson couldn't either but he did spend a weekend pondering the pros and cons before jumping off the fence the wrong side.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 20-Aug-23 16:11:17

You cannot be serious!

I attended a literature festival talk by Angela Rayner a few weeks ago. She came over as articulate, amusing, intelligent and honest, and had a standing ovation at the end from her very diverse audience. I could actually see her on the world stage - she would certainly hold her own.

What I think is that her rise is a testament to her character, determination and sheer hard work. She was brought up in poverty, which was even more acute when her father died young. She knows what it’s like to be at the bottom of the heap, and she has always had a strong desire to improve society for the sake of children now growing up as she did. It’s snobbish and shameful to sneer at her lack of formal education - her own mother couldn’t read or write, and she was herself working to support her own child from the age of 16. Under the circumstances she’s done brilliantly, and her story will be inspirational to children from similar backgrounds.

So what are her crimes then? Speaking Northern, vapeing and enjoying a drink with her friends on holiday? I can think of much, much worse behaviour from some of the upstanding Eton chaps many of you seem to prefer.

No, it's her views on issues such as people being able to change sex which concern me.

Would she be pressurised and cave in to persuasive, vociferous groups without doing the necessary research to find out the true facts?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 20-Aug-23 15:50:39

That’s the first thing I think when I see a young person with a double-barrelled name - they or their parents are unmarried.

Urmstongran Sun 20-Aug-23 15:47:55

I guess that she'll appeal to some of the snobs on here with her double barrelled name

I don’t think that holds anymore! Two surnames often indicate an unmarried couple who just use both surnames.

Louella12 Sun 20-Aug-23 15:46:14

I've never said Keir is a nasty baddie getting rid of people, *Maybee70!

You must be thinking of someone else flowers

Do you really think Starmer has strength of character, Wwm2?

Interesting how we all see things differently

So, one minute he’s a nasty baddie because he gets rid of people that he doesn’t like and the next minute he isn’t a strong leader. Surely he can’t be both?
