Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry and twilight here in brackley this morning.
Todays plans bus to Bicester for usual break , and return home for lunch .
Health wise , weight slowly gaining ,and in the other area those Leopardine capsules have helped as well .
I am enjoying my Wiltshire Farm meals, finding them filling as a portion.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, rather late, from coastal West Sussex. I met up with a former work colleague on the beach in Hove yesterday. I hadn’t seen her since before Covid so lots to catch up on. Stupidly, as it was cloudy to start with, I hadn’t put on sun protection and being absorbed in conversation I didn’t remember. I arrived home with very red arms.

I am quietly panicking as I haven’t properly packed yet for a festival we are going to for the weekend. DH is a volunteer and has to be there tomorrow so we will be leaving first thing. We will have the campervan with some provisions already stashed but the weather looks to be cooler and showery by Friday so all types of clothing and footwear required. Gala, we have the same problem with decision making and planning. We’ve always been indecisive but it’s getting more stressful - I used to be happy to be “spontaneous”!

Glad you are continuing to improve and settle back into your routine, Mick. Sago, your Spanish trip sounds lovely, as does your Orkney trip Scapal.

I’d better bite the bullet and do my packing. I will be off-grid until after the weekend so wish you all well with whatever you are doing.

A late good morning from Giffnock, children in school and about to tackle the ironing before going home.

I’m envious of your holiday Sago, I hope you have a wonderful time. My DH and I made many journeys like that and the best memories are from the joys of being in towns and villages off the beaten track.

May things settle down for you grandMattie, yesterday sounds horrendous.

Good decision baubles and glad that your DH has a full week of antibiotics before your holiday, that should make quite a difference.

Best wishes to everyone.

Morning all from an overcast Orkney where it shows signs of brightening. Lovely day yesterday wander round the shops in Kirkwall for some essentials plus a replacement earring from Ola Gorie. Goodness knows where I lost the other one somewhere at home. They provided me with one straight away and even polished up my old one to match. Then over the Churchill barriers to the place I find most peace in the amazing Italian Chapel. So beautiful and made out of the very basics by the Italian prisoners of war who were detained in Orkney.

Good morning from a warm humid Co Armagh, at least it isn’t as breezy and not raining
gM that was a horrible day for you ! I hope things look up today , I would buy the extra years on the lease , but I do agree it is a very bad system
Enjoy your lunch Marydoll , our PP consults opinions , then does exactly as he thinks !
I am trying to sort clothes for our coach trip next week , it’s wonderful what is hiding at the back of the wardrobe ! I need comfy trousers for sitting on the coach for several hours and found things I bought on such a trip a few (?ten ?) years ago 👍

Good morning Mick and all from a dull northwest coast.
The Memorial Concert for the music club founder went well, although there were no refreshments in the interval and I was first on and not on at all after the interval, so got fed up hanging around. Our piper in kilt etc played and that is always so stirring.
Back again today for the usual meeting, so it’s a way of life at the moment.

There’s a dull noise from somewhere in the house, a tapping sound, it’s bothering me. No heating on, so don’t know what it can be.
GM I hope things settle down and my DD sold her flat and is in the process of buying a new one. Problems with each. It rather puts me off downsizing, which I should do…
I have to return to the GP for a repeat blood test, so don’t know why…
harrigran, after being widowed, some music has become unbeatable me, it’s sad.
Thoughts to all with troubles 🌹

TheGood morning Mick and all from cloudy and damp Lancashire. I’m glad you’re getting back to normal Mick and that the Wiltshire Farm Foods are suitable.

Yesterday turned very muggy and I was out of sorts all day with a queasy tum, no appetite and aching limbs. I didn’t get much done, today will be better.

Definitely one of ‘those’ days Grandmattie, hope today is better and the glasses do the trick.

Hope the tiny terror is better behaved today Grandmabatty.

Glad things are settling into a routine Cornergran.

That sounds like the right decision baubles. Hope your DH is soon better.

Have a lovely day In Glasgow Marydoll. I have a friend lives in Avila, she married a Spanish man and they run a language school there.

As always thinking of Baggs, Kalu and Urms and all dealing with troubles.

Have a good day all whatever you’re doihg🌻

Ziplok Tue 22-Aug-23 09:26:01

Morning all.
A lovely sunny start to the day, if a little breezy.
Going out for lunch with DH today. Enjoy yours, Marydoll.
Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning from Staffordshire, where it is bright and sunny.

Took the girls to Baggeridge park where we had lunch, then walked and picked Blackberries. More than enough to make a lovely apple and blackberry crumble for the after the evening meal of my homemade Lasagne.

Today they want to go to see the Barbie film. Then we will have fish n chips afterwards as the showing isn’t until 3.30pm.

Wishing you all the best day

BlueSapphire Tue 22-Aug-23 09:10:07

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton. Up later this morning as I had a late night last night, but nothing to rush out for so all is ok.

Shall change the bed this morning and wash bedding, then after lunch out to meet friends for a health walk. May cut the front grass when I get back.

Yesterday afternoon was spent cutting the back grass, slightly easier than last week, then spent an hour tidying up everything that was growing over the pergola. There is a vine that goes berserk if left to its own devices! I then sat in the sun and read for an hour or so. I am hooked on the Outlander series and am on book 2.

Shall cook a Bolognese for dinner tonight, and extra potions for the freezer.

Oh dear grandMattie......

GrannySomerset Tue 22-Aug-23 08:54:30

Bedding in the machine but putting on the clean stuff awaits arrival of Wonderful Cleaner as we need to turn the very heavy mattress. Supermarket trip the highlight of the day; I am so uninterested in planning meals so when hungry eat something quick and not particularly good for me, but need to try to get better organised. A diet of bread and home made plum jam is not good enough!

Sorry gMattie has had such an awful day and hope today is better, though I agree that the lease renewal should not have been such a shock and second Foxygloves’ views. Glad Mick is picking up his routines again, and hope Marydoll enjoys her lunch out - carpe diem and all that.

Susan56 Tue 22-Aug-23 08:46:59

Good morning from Shropshire.

We had a relaxing day yesterday and another one planned today as tomorrow is our first full day of childcare in a while.DD1 and family have just got on the ferry at Dunkirk. They had a lovely last night of hols staying in a lovely hotel and a meal on the Princess Elizabeth, a boat used in the Dunkirk evacuation.

We have had the quote for a new boiler, shower and radiators. It was what I had thought but had hoped it would be less!

Happy retirement baubles. You did so well going back after your serious illness but now it’s time for you.

grandMattie I hope today is a better day🙏🏻

Marydoll what a shame about the PP.We belonged to a church many years ago where the minister made what to us was an unwise decision. We hadn’t been there that long so decided to move to a church where we have been ever since.About 75% of the congregation left.

Enjoy your lunch in Glasgow.

Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩

harrigran Tue 22-Aug-23 08:45:37

Good morning from a sunny Yorkshire after a disturbed night. It was so windy during the night that there were a lot of bangs and crashes.
Yesterday we spent 7 hours in Harrogate. Our afternoon tea at Bettys was wonderful. We were enjoying the piano music and I said to Dd and SIL that DH would have liked it too, the pianist then started playing DH's favourite song and one we played at his funeral, DD and I started to cry.
When we left the tearoom they gave us a book about the history Bettys and I spent the evening reading it after a light supper back at the cottage.
No plans yet today but at some point will have to find somewhere to eat, I was surprised to find that most establishments only open Thursday to Sunday where we are staying.
Thinking of poorly people.

Georgesgran Tue 22-Aug-23 08:36:20

Good morning from a blue skied, but breezy Durham. The past few days have been hectic - babysitting, dog sitting, child minding - the lot! A great day yesterday with DGS1 at Hall Hill Farm, he loved it. Northumberland Zoo today - we are members - then I’ll take him home and probably collapse in bed when I get back here. I’m just thankful I’m fit enough to help out.
Leasehold nightmare gM a bit of a shock to say the least.
Mick I think Imodium is my Dumbo’s feather - have it with me and I don’t need it, but have none in my bag and disaster! I should have shares in it.
Some lovely holidays being reported by GN’s - enjoy.
Best wishes to all. X

Foxygloves Tue 22-Aug-23 08:34:19

grandMattie

No, Aldom, the lease renewal is for my flat only. An extra 54 years. It is for my heirs , for the sale when the time comes. It seems exorbitant.

At the risk of sounding crass, I rather think another £34k will be neither here nor there to your heirs when that sad day comes whereas losing a large chunk of your savings (I assume) might be significant now.
Bear in mind what you might want or need it for in the future- for instance, to help D or S or the GDs should they need it, a new hip/knee/etc operation, private health care in the event of illness, white goods or furniture which might need replacing, the freedom to travel on holiday or for weekends away, extra expenses such as taxis instead of buses to make your life generally easier and more comfortable.
I could go on but I imagine you can see where I am coming from.

EkwaNimitee Tue 22-Aug-23 08:24:27

Good morning Mick and everyone from wet Carlisle where it is currently showing signs of drying up.

The garden seems to think summer has gone, I'm deadheading daily and my amelanchier tree is showing its autumn colours.

Today, I shall plod on with the housework in the morning and there are plenty of things to entertain myself with in the afternoon including a bit of retail therapy on the computer.

That was a bit of a Black Monday for you grandMattie, I hope you are soon sorted lease and bathroom-wise.

Happy retirement Baubles, now you have the opportunity to develop other interests.

Envying you Sago!

And the best possible day to you all.

Taichinan Tue 22-Aug-23 08:22:10

Good morning Mick and all. It's a lovely September morning again on the Angus coast. I was greeted by a beautiful rainbow when I went to close the west facing window in the bedroom against the "stiff breeze" which was carrying spatters of rain. Truly autumnal, although there's no sign of the leaves changing yet. The Victoria plum tree in the garden is heavy with fruit - they'll be ripe for picking soon.
What a day grandmattie! Hopefully that's got all the bad stuff out of the way for a while! Days like that are so unpleasant.
The Farmfoods sound excellent for you Mick - it's good everything's coming together now.
Enjoy that holiday Sago - it's lovely to get off the tourist track, isn't it.
Well done on that retirement decision baubles!
Our committee meeting yesterday has left me with a jumbled list of dates and times for this and that that my head refuses to get round. I think my brain was having an away day! I hope it's back in time for class this morning 😉
Have a pleasant, warm sunny day everyone - if not in actual fact, then at least in mind x

Foxygloves Tue 22-Aug-23 08:21:58

Good morning from Foxyland 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
Hygienist this morning then coffee at Castle Ashby with a friend this afternoon. No doubt a browse around the couple of very nice shops there will feature. It’s another friend’s birthday on Thursday so that will be my excuse.
GM I am horrified by your bill for renewing your lease. Is that payable now or is it a nominal figure to be met in the eventuality of selling?
If you had no prior notice, somebody somewhere -solicitor, surveyor, estate agent- has either not done due diligence or has been negligent (or in the case of the EA, downright economical with the facts). I would take legal advice - going back to your own solicitor first. I sincerely hope this was not a case of “buy in haste, repent at leisure” and that something can be salvaged from the wreckage.
As for your Warden-words fail me. That is sheer incompetence .Is any redress possible from the management company?
With kind thoughts to all who are in pain or distress, I hope all have a pleasant day.

ginny Tue 22-Aug-23 08:18:02

Good morning.
We enjoyed our visit to Sulgrave Manor yesterday. The ancestral home of George Washington. Small but interesting.
Not much on today. DH has to take his Mum to the Doctors and I have ironing to do.
Wishing all a good day.

Marydoll Tue 22-Aug-23 08:14:58

Good morning all from a wet and cloudy Glasgow. Good to hear things are improving for you Mick.

Firstly, belated birthday greetings to Oops, I hope you had a lovely day.

GM, a dreadful day indeed. Thank goodness we don't have that leasing nonsense here in Scotland. That is a lot of money to find on top of actually buying a property.

Sago, Avila is beautiful! We were on a fabulous, touring holiday in Spain and Avila was on our itinerary.

Baubles, I have always had great admiration for you going back to work, I don't know where you find the stamina.
Hopefully your DH will pick up in time for your holiday.

Yesterday was a very quiet day. I received a call from my friend, who recently lost his daughter. He is still in hospital, awaiting two lots of surgery, one major heart surgery. He had a triple bypass a few years ago. He actually collapsed in the entrance to our local hospital. Ten minutes earlier, he would have been driving! A very luckyy man.
The funeral is on Thursday and he has been given a day pass to go.
He was asking me for help with a couple of things, because he didn't want to deal with the PP and his wife is also very unwell.
It was an upsetting phone call and I felt quite humbled that he had asked me help him.

Later while I was on the phone to the PP, my mobile which was lying beside me, rang. It was my DIL and somehow I managed to answer it, instead of stopping the call. There was I, landline handset in one hand, mobile in other, when DIL started a rant about the PP. 😱
I frantically tried to stop her, saying I would phone her back.
I was so flustered.
The PP, despite my advice, has made a foolish decision about something, which is going to implode. Parishioners are up in arms. I'm dreading the fallout and trying not to get involved. In his world, black is black and white is white. I totally disagree with him and feeling quite stressed about it. Life should be interesting in the next few days.

Today, we were supposed to be going on the train to Ayr to meet an old colleague of DHs, but it has been postponed.
Instead, we are off to Glasgow on the train for lunch. I would have liked a vino, but there is no way I could walk to the station, so I shall drive and DH can have a beer.
Our plan was to use a Christmas voucher, but to my horror it had expired! I decided to email the restaurant and much to my surprise, a director messaged immediately back, to say that they would honour it. A nice end to the day.
Now I am agonising about what to wear, I've not been in Glasgow for about a year and it is also raining!! Decisions, decisions.

For those holidaying, enjoy and for those with worries, I hope today is a gentle one.
Have a good day everyone.

Gingster Tue 22-Aug-23 08:07:22

Good morning all and it’s a little overcast here on the Suffolk coast. The weather has been perfect for the last few days and our evening of Opera in the Forest was warm and beautiful as the sun gradually set in this idyllic setting. Nephew and cast were great in The Magic Flute.
Brother stayed over and we enjoyed time together. His wife died a few months ago and although she’d been in a care home for 2 and a half years (dementia), he of course misses her terribly.

Those pesky seagulls have been making a racket here Mizuna. Huge babies squawking at their mothers side wanting to be fed. Mothers ignoring them and eventually flying off.
I too like the autumn and winter.🍁🍂🍃.

Today we’ll walk in the forest with little pooch and do a bit of shopping. We did think about a swim in the sea - who knows!

GM what a day you had! Hope todays an improvement 🤞.
Brook and Sago enjoy your hols.
Mick glad you’re getting back to near ‘normal’. 👍.

Have a gentle day and enjoy whatever you do.🌻

Liberty Tue 22-Aug-23 08:04:04

Good morning from what looks like a lovely day in Suffolk.

We arrived home from our wonderful cruise around the British Isles yesterday afternoon and the second load of washing is on. The weather in Scotland was good and better than the reports we had from home. We spent a great day on Harris with a wander around Tarbet and on their wonderful beaches in warm sunshine.

I’m off shortly for typhoid and the triple vaccine of polio, tetanus and diphtheria in preparation for my trip to India in October with one of my dearest friends. In the meantime household tasks to contemplate if not actually do!

Our little dog,who was staying with neighbours, has been unwell whilst we were away. Luckily she loves them and is very comfortable in their care but DH has been worried about her suffering ‘separation anxiety’ in our absence. He is going to make a vet appt today as he thinks she needs the usual vet prescription of a jab of long acting antibiotic.

I’ve been off grid on holiday so am not up to date with everything that has been posted. I hope that life has been positive and happy for most and not too stressful for those with illness or other worries to deal with.

Good morning from a grey W Kent. DF coming round this morning for a catch up but otherwise another quiet day.
