Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry and twilight here in brackley this morning.
Todays plans bus to Bicester for usual break , and return home for lunch .
Health wise , weight slowly gaining ,and in the other area those Leopardine capsules have helped as well .
I am enjoying my Wiltshire Farm meals, finding them filling as a portion.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from a dawning Bristol. We are promised sunshine this afternoon.
Yesterday was awful. Everything went wrong…
I finally got information regarding written permission for work on my bathroom, etc. only two weeks to go! The warden’s incompetence means that nothing has been done, forms to be filled , etc.! I was incandescent.
I received information that the lease renewal would be north of £32k! No one had warned me.
My long awaited glasses had arrived and “were waiting collection”. I hadn’t been told, a phone call from me informed me! 🤬
The ECG went ok, but because the appointment was in the late afternoon no doctor was available to look at the printouts and, besides, the GP who had asked for them was on holiday.
Finally, all the bits I’d cutout and started to sew for a patchwork square were the wrong size and I ditched them.
You couldn’t make it up, could you?
Today has to be better, if only with the collection of my new lenses. Good bye headaches, I trust.
May today bring comfort to everyone. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good Morning, good to hear you’re gaining weight Michael.

Our first morning in Spain!
We eventually left the ferry at 4.00pm yesterday, the car deck doors wouldn’t open so we had a long, hot wait.

We drove 2 hours to out first stop Villarcayo, the journey took us through beautiful mountains, we climbed beyond 3000 feet.
My husband said it was one of the best drives he’s ever done.

The town is not on the tourist trail, a beer and a crisp white wine was under 4 euro!
We had a traditional meal of meatballs and patatas bravas in a local restaurant.

After breakfast we have a 4 hour drive to Avila, it’s an ancient walled City, our hotel was built as a presidents palace, it’s within the city walls and is the only hotel in Avila with a pool.

Temperatures are around 34 degrees.

Sago Tue 22-Aug-23 06:02:19

Oh grandmattie just seen your post!

Today has to be better🤞

Mizuna Tue 22-Aug-23 06:20:12

Good morning from a dry, dark Cornwall with some sun promised for later. I really feel autumn in the air; the ash tree above my patio is dropping its leaves. The gulls have finally fledged and left me in peace. I love winter, so the feeling of autumn and nature beginning to edge towards the colder months is wonderful for me. I find summer such a trial.

An unexpected late lunch with my youngest son at Wetherspoons yesterday where we caught up and had a laugh, then sat outside and people-watched.

Today I'm at a prayer friend's house for coffee and quiet time, then to the library. I hope today is better for you gM. I lived in a similar setting for two years with an incompetent warden, so I empathise.

Grandmabatty Tue 22-Aug-23 06:21:29

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15°, cloudy and breezy. GrandMattie what a catalogue of irritations! None of which will help settle your high blood pressure. Sago your Spanish trip sounds lovely.
Yesterday was hard work with dgs2. Lots of big emotions when things weren't going his way. Dgs1 was on the receiving end of a toy truck which was thrown in temper. I visited mum at night and she was blethering for a while. She didn't remember that my brother had been in though, and stayed for a while.
Today is another childcare day. Possibly we'll go to the park and feed the ducks. The last of the gammon for dinner. Have a good day all

Aldom Tue 22-Aug-23 06:21:40

I hope the lease renewal is being shared with the other 'inmates' GrandMattie. Hope today will be better.

karmalady Tue 22-Aug-23 06:29:01

Good morning from s somerset and it will be sunny all day. I shall have to be out first thing, to avoid uv on my nose

Today has to be better GM

Lovely day yesterday, lots of pleasant chatting and I shall have a mixed bag of pottering at home, after my walk today.

Taichinan, that oak tree and the developing wood, suddenly last saturday, I felt as though I had my focus back with somewhere to go and just sit. My allotment was that place too, up on a hill with beautiful views and skylarks and that was hard to give up when I moved. I feel as though some peace has come back into my life, through nature. I may get that in my garden, one day when my trees are more mature

Have a good day, or at least a better day

grandMattie Tue 22-Aug-23 06:37:41

No, Aldom, the lease renewal is for my flat only. An extra 54 years. It is for my heirs , for the sale when the time comes. It seems exorbitant.

cornergran Tue 22-Aug-23 06:44:06

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is waiting for the promised clear sky. Hope it comes

Settling into a routine here. Tuesday means an INR test for Mr C followed by a call from a very helpful and pleasant pharmacist with warfarin dosage. It also means grocery delivery, some light dust removal for me and with luck some garden pottering which I love. An hilarious video call from our not so little Littlest yesterday evening had us chuckling at his antics - when we weren’t treated to several views of the ceiling and the underside of a sofa. Good fun.

I’m so sorry yesterday was foul grandmattie. Today just has to be better. Pleased to read your positive post mick. You’d love it here karma, our little river is bounded by some very large trees, we can see half a dozen from our currently very scruffy garden.

Hope Tuesday is kind to us all.

baubles Tue 22-Aug-23 06:46:43

Good morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s probably raining or about to rain.

Good to hear that you’re improving Mick, it takes longer than you’d think to get back to full strength.

Oh Mattie, what a day, hopefully this one will be better.

Your trip sounds marvellous Sago.

DH has been quite unwell and has had a horrible cough for a week. He has taken two covid tests which were negative so yesterday morning I suggested he ring the surgery, which, to my great surprise he did and got an appointment right away. He’s now on antibiotics which will hopefully kick in before we go on holiday on Saturday.

After a great deal of thought I’ve decided that it’s time for me to retire, again. I’ve given notice that I will leave at the end of next month. I am sad but I know it’s the right decision as it’s such a physically demanding job that it takes all of my energy, leaving none for anything else.

Today I will sort out my packing.

Have the best day possible everyone.

RosesandLilac Tue 22-Aug-23 06:58:26

Good morning all!
I haven’t looked out the window yet so no idea what the weather’s like 😊
Oh dear grandMattie 🤗
Yesterday morning I spent 4 hours thoroughly cleaning and rearranging my kitchen (and sorting out the work surfaces so I have more space). It wasn’t actually dirty or anything, just cluttered and untidy. It now looks much better!
Today I need to drop some stuff off at a friend’s, cook a pork tenderloin with garlic and honey and try to get my act together for a painting break in a few weeks.
I hope that today goes well for you all 🌹

Gala Tue 22-Aug-23 07:00:21

Good morning from a breezy but brightening Sefton. The dog walkers are in their shorts & T-shirts so it must be warm out there.
Zoom exercise class first thing then a small food shop. Then a thinking & deciding afternoon - we have a holiday & a group buffet lunch to plan. Hopefully some decisions will be made. We're finding even simple decision making getting hard as we age and I no longer enjoy doing the required research. Could do with a PA/research assistant. 😁
((Hugs)) for those of you dealing with life's worries & struggles.

kittylester Tue 22-Aug-23 07:01:14

Good morning all from a brightening North Leicestershire.

The kitchen is now empty and desolate. It also looks much smaller - strangely.

Electrician today.

Have the best day possible everyone.

glammagran Tue 22-Aug-23 07:13:20

Good morning all.

It was our wedding anniversary on Saturday and we spent it at a lovely hotel in Wareham on the river Frome. The weather was great and the extensive grounds were beautiful. Our evening meal was excellent but we ate a lot later than we usually do and it kept me awake. Yesterday the weather was still warm but overcast so we walked round Poole Quay before driving home with another stop off in Salisbury.

On Friday evening we drank a bottle of champagne given to us at Christmas from my husband’s son. It was ok at best but my DH looked it up to find to his horror it is sold in the UK for £250+. Such a shame and a waste of money. Prefer Nyetimber. Saturday evening was spent babysitting.

I’m sorry you had such a bad day yesterday GM I don’t understand how the leasehold can cost so much as to cover the next 54 years. Surely your flat would be sold far sooner than that. I’d be inclined to take legal action. Surely that can’t be right.

Have a good day all and thoughts for those who are poorly or have worries. No childcare today for as long as I can remember. 😊

Grandmadinosaur Tue 22-Aug-23 07:14:41

Good morning from a bright East Yorkshire countryside.

We had a lovely morning yesterday. We spent a few hours at Hornsea overlooking the sea. It was lovely seeing the families playing on the beach.

We are early risers today as we shall pack up and head home. I have my coffee morning later and a hair appointment this afternoon.

Am off to get my peppermint tea now and will have porridge once I get home.

Grammaretto Tue 22-Aug-23 07:15:11

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Overcast.
Dentist appointment early today and I will try to see a doctor about this "cold" which has hung about for a month. Like your DH Baubles?
I need to choose and buy paint for the bathroom now I have 2 willing helpers here.

The Frenchman cooked us all a delicious flavoursome meal last night based on my garden broad beans in a casserole, with rice, kale crisps and a salsa salad. His cooking is truly magic. He doesn't use recipes and is modest.

Your Spanish holiday sounds fab Sago .
Your day doesn't gMattie!!
I hope today is much better,
Have a good day everyone.

monk08 Tue 22-Aug-23 07:16:27

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
Firstly may I send belated birthday wishes to Oops I hope you had a lovely day🎂💐.
grandMattie I hope you have a better day today.
Well we had a very enjoyable day at the zoo the weather was just right and it was nice and easy walking round before it's been to hot. Dgs1 was finally able to use the chairlift he was the right age and height the little one was disappointed he still has 2yrs before he can go on them.
Today we are meeting them again and it will be a trip to the playground at Tamworth and a tour round the castle .
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed ☀️.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 22-Aug-23 07:20:54

Good morning from a cloudy South Downs although sun is forecast all day.

Yes mick the body heals but oh so much slower than you anticipate.

gm yes we renewed the lease on Mum’s flat when she died in order to sell it and the money came out of the proceeds, it was about the same or a bit more than you are considering paying. My opinion of the leasing system is rock bottom I’m afraid. The landlord who inherited a portfolio of property, lives a life of Riley abroad and rakes in the money by doing absolutely nothing. Doesn’t seem remotely fair to leaseholders.

baubles good decision 🙂

karma I make a point in walking under trees every day - there is nothing like it for tranquility.

Yesterday I pottered to the pharmacist to get some stuff for a horsefly bite that has irritated for over a week and the redness was spreading from my calf to my ankle- he recommended hydrocortisone cream and anti-histamine tablets. Seem to be doing the trick.

Nothing planned for today - a mountain of ironing and pottering.

Baked haddock with goats cheese and thyme followed by hot mango and banana salad. I love puddings if all sorts and mostly don’t have them but occasionally I rebel and have a week of deliciousness😄

Harmony to all

Greyduster Tue 22-Aug-23 07:24:21

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a sunny South Yorkshire. Good to hear you’re back on an even keel Mick. I cut and trimmed the front lawn yesterday, and made a batch of chicken, vegetable and pearl barley soup. The problem is there’s three litres of it and I don’t have a lot of room in my freezer at the moment, so I’ll freeze what I can and then it looks like being soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner until it’s gone! That’ll learn me! I didn’t manage to wash the car - may do that later today when the sun has gone off the front. Hope to get a walk in at some stage.
Hope you have a better day today GM💐
Have the best day you can, folks.

Jaxjacky Tue 22-Aug-23 07:33:42

Morning from S Hants, Whitewave has described our weather exactly.
A day to be dismissed grandMattie with a flea in its ear.
A lovely area of Spain Sago what an adventure.
Yesterday was voluntary phone and quiz night, I did better at one than the other!
Today I’ve got appointments to sort out, my car’s first MOT is one of them and some general housework that must be done.
🦩🦩

brook2704 Tue 22-Aug-23 07:39:51

Good morning everyone from Lewis where it’s much brighter and drier than yesterday
So sorry to hear you had such a frustrating day yesterday gMattie, I hope today is much better for you
Your trip sounds really good Sago, I’d love to do something like that but I don’t think either me or DH have the confidence to drive abroad any more so we’d have to use public transport. I hope you have a wonderful time
We’re off to Harris this morning, somewhere different to explore and hopefully it’ll stay dry.
Well done with making your decision to retire Baubles, I’m sure it wasn’t easy but time to do something different maybe. I hope your DH feels better soon too
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Pittcity Tue 22-Aug-23 07:42:30

Good morning from a warm but overcast Colchester. Another dry day.
Early blood test followed by charity shop volunteering today. DH is off fishing, so DS and I will take pot luck from the freezer tonight.
Love to all 🦩 x

Gwenisgreat Tue 22-Aug-23 07:48:15

Good morning all from sunny Harrogate
Glad you are getting back to normal Mick
I am disgusted that you weren’t informed when purchasing your flat
about the leasehold being due Grandmattie - I do think a word in a solicitors ear could be worthwhile ?
I had a lovely day in Carlisle yesterday despite the forecast being for showers, no clouds opened above me!
Today painting at my art club, this afternoon chilling after a hectic time
Have the best day possible folks

grandMattie Tue 22-Aug-23 07:53:28

Regarding the lease - the solicitor was the one who recommended getting a longer one. I’m for it; it’s just that no one forewarned me of the cost! It seems quite out of proportion to the price of the flat.
I shall proceed but feeling robbed….
