if you get a call from a person or number you don't know

HANG UP AS SOON AS YOU CAN

This AI(Artificial Intelligence) can now capture your voice and use it to open bank accounts and the like.

Although I’m sure that AI can capture your voice, it will take more than just your voice these days to open a bank account, there will be paperwork, taken in person to the Bank, with your passport and some household bills in your name with your address on them.

your voice can indeed be captured and you could get a phone call from a `relative` who is an AI robot asking for cash to get them out of a tricky situation, this will allow them access into your bank account

Vod are very good at stopping scam calls. Landline were the worst so I got rid of landline two years ago

If a ‘relative’ calls asking for money then surely it’s very easy to ask some questions that an AI voice wouldn’t know the answers to?
I think there is some overthinking going on here.

How can a relative who is really an AI robot gain access to my bank account??

Franbern Fri 25-Aug-23 07:39:12

Yes, there are lots of scams out there. However, there does seem to be people who seem to want to believe every silly little runour that goes round. Similar to those stories about the Covid Vaccine containing a chip, and Alex listening in to everthing you do.

If anyone has tried to open a new bank account these days, and knw the amount of details that are required and how long it all takes - a voice on a phone will get you nowhere - and even assuming that it did, what use is that bank account with no money in it?

infoman, stop stressing about so much that is untrue.

My thoughts too!

"stressing out" if your not happy with my posting/s,
can you please put me on your ignore list.

"fancythat" gave me a thank you about a scam and I will take the positive from that and not the negative.

So…. The AI would have to get a recording of your relatives voice before your ‘relative’ could have a conversation with you?
How does the scammer know who is related to you?

infoman Thu 31-Aug-23 18:41:15

not sure how the word "relative" was slipped into the replys.

Surely every one has made a phone call to a company, and you getting the options.
e.g.
Whats your call about? say "yes" "no" or "something else" etc.

I rarely use telephone banking but when I set it up a few years ago I was invited to set up Voice ID which removed the need to use my telephone banking number and personal ID number if I phone the bank call centre. If I phone I’m asked to say repeatedly “My voice is my password” until it recognises my voice and then I get through to a human. I’m beginning to have second thoughts about using this method 🤔

Scammers pay a lot of money for information that will tell them everything about you.

Your thread was largely believed a month ago.
More doubters on this one.
