Yes, 82! How did that happen? I just saw a pic of him on FB and I want some of what he's having! Why do some of us age so much better than others?

My first crush, when I was twelve. Had all his singles, picture on my bedroom wall.....then the Beatles came along and changed the world!

I’ve never really been a fan. Always found him to be a bit creepy !

It’s another way of being rude. Says more about those who say it than the recipient.

Pmem I didn’t follow up your Google suggestion, but accusations about Cliff, Mick Jagger or even Shakin’ Stevens, or even about you, if not followed up by the police are given more credence if they/you jump in and start protesting.

A bit like the Royals - never complain, never explain. Once you start up a dialogue it can drag on and on. Worse if you are famous and could well have hundreds of different dialogues going on.

Sad really that people felt they had to hide their real selves but just how it was at the time.

Not really bothered if people colour or perm their hair but skin tends to get lighter as we get older and the wrong colour actually ages people rather than making them appear more youthful.

I like him.

Most people, me included dye their hair because it makes them feel better. Some get a wig for the same reason. If your age is in the public domain, you know it won’t make you look younger. I’m quite glad my age isn’t in the public domain.

I didn't mind a couple of his earlier songs, but I've never been a fan really. Especially when he started all the religious, holier-than-thou, guff! He gives me the creeps, a bit now. Not sure what it is about him....

I wish he wouldn't die his hair. Never looks good on an older person in my opinion.

It's not the dying that's the problem, it's the colour. As a person ages, they need to lighten their colour, because if they try and stick to their original shade, it's just looks false and makes them look older. I used to have dark brown, almost black hair, when I was young. I'm now salt and pepper, but occasionally dye it, just for a change, but these days I need to go light brown or it looks terrible! I'm a John Barrowman fan and a couple of years ago he stopped dying his hair and he looked so much younger! Then he dyed it again. Back to black! Oh dear. If only he'd chosen more wisely....

I am indifferent to Cliff, I watched Summer Holiday a couple of months ago and it was ok. I do remember my step-father had nothing good to say about him, and I wasn’t allowed posters on my wall until I was a teenager and then it was The Monkees, especially Davy Jones and David Cassidy

I will not judge him for his style or hair decisions as I would not like to be judged on my choices.

(Saw Tom Jones live a couple of years ago, his voice is still so strong and on note, looked good for someone who has been around the block more than once)

annodomini Tue 29-Aug-23 09:59:16

Cliff is three weeks older than I am, and I bet that when he sees himself in the bathroom mirror first thing in the morning, he doesn't look much better!

Kate1949 Tue 29-Aug-23 10:42:56

I think it's unkind to criticise the way anyone looks.

There is no question IMO that he's gay.. that's absolutely fine.. if that's who he is.. but he's always denied it.

A friend worked on the switchboard of a well know hotel and overhead very raunchy conversations between him and a 60's singer named Michael Holiday , and flowers would arrive in huge bouquets for cliff from MH every day

I do agree tho that there's something off with him.. He surrounds himself with Fag Hags.. the late Cilla Black, Gloria Hunniford... and joan collins ...etc...

Very recently Sue barker wrote about the way she was treated by Cliff and his entourage when she was being claimed to be his girlfriend by the Media.. it was not pretty

Ailsa43 Tue 29-Aug-23 11:16:39

..sorry not Overhead... should be Overheard

Lots of hearsay on here but . . .

Is it your business? My business? Our business?
Is it against the law to be gay? Is it against the law to refuse to share your sexuality with the nosy members of the public to satisfy their prurient interest?

I haven’t seen it used before but your choice of vocabulary for Cilla Black, Gloria Hunniford is IMO as unpleasant as your demanding that someone tell you about their private life - whether its someone famous or your someone on GN or your next door neighbour.

Why should he have to say he is gay? You wouldn’t believe him if he said he wasn’t.
At least he’s not claiming to be a woman!

Kate1949 Tue 29-Aug-23 14:35:17

I just watched him on Loose Women. Yes he told the same old stories but he seemed eather sweet.

Curlywhirly Tue 29-Aug-23 20:01:24

I saw a snippet of him on Loose Women too. I've no idea what he's done to his hair - it looked like a wig (and not a good one!). I have never been a fan, but thought he was a good-looking chap in his youth; today he looked very frail, but at 83 it's no surprise really.

Curlywhirly Tue 29-Aug-23 20:03:07

Sorry he's 82, not 83!

Deedaa Tue 29-Aug-23 20:24:02

Ailsa43 I'm surprised you haven't heard the term Fag Hag before, it's been around for decades. DH often called me one because I had so many gay friends.

I know rumours have always surrounded Cliff, but I would have thought that we would have had people coming out of the woodwork as soon as his house was raided if there was anything to hide. I've always thought that he's probably Asexual, it does happen.

and a 60’s singer named Michael Holliday

He sang ‘The Story Of My Life’.

Lovely voice, died quite young I think.

Yes, he committed suicide when he was 38

Serendipity22 Tue 29-Aug-23 22:03:20

Wowww.... 82! He's had facial 'work' done for sure, must have had something done to that hair of his too. Saying all that, he's a fabulous outlook on life, something no amount of 'work' can help and his stamina is absolutely marvellous but anybodies would be marvellous if they lead his lifestyle..

Bravo Mr Richards... 👏

annodomini Tue 29-Aug-23 22:19:15

I've often wondered if his song, "Bachelor Boy" was a not-very-subtle hint about his sexuality!

Ailsa43 Tue 29-Aug-23 23:27:58

Deedaa No..I didn't say I hadn't heard the 'fag Hag' term before.. I have known it for decades..
Mollygo you got your knicks in such a twist you didn't even read my post properly.. I never said he had to tell me whether he was gay or not, I said that was fine if that's who he is, I never said it was against the law or anything close to it.. ... nor did I ''demand to know anything about his personal life''... goodness me.. if you're going to try and attack, ensure you've read the post properly..

I'd hate to have you witness an accident.. you'd have the whole story back to front and have the innocent victim hung instead of the perpetrator... get back in your lane until you learn to read properly....

Kate1949 Tue 29-Aug-23 23:50:47

As someone who has alopecia totalis (no hair), I wish people would stop criticising other people's hair. They are doing their best with what they've got (or haven't got).
