Gutted we are not now going to see Robbie Williams

As soon as tickets went on sale my friend and I bought tickets to see RW on Sat night at Sandringham.

A couple of weeks ago it was announced that you could not take folding chairs. I asked why not because you could at other concerts there and they said it was because other concerts are around 8,000 visitors but RW is 25,000!

I am pretty good healthwise but I doubt whether I could stand from about 3pm to 11.30 pm. All you are allowed is a picnic rug and then we both started worrying in case we can’t get up again! It’s sold out both Sat and Sun nights with waiting list of 7,000 so we got refunds on tickets. Gutted to be honest but have loads of recorded RW footage to watch.

Another friend is going to see The Who on Mon night and she said she will be so embarrassed because she has to get hauled up once she sits down.

The minds are willing but our vintage bodies are not. 😢

Enjoy your afternoon tea.
It was an experience…not one that I want to repeat. I can’t imagine why the f word is so beloved of so many.
You won.
They say that you only regret what you don’t do! … don’t regret not going to this…I did it for you🥴

PamelaJ1 - oh no! Thanks so much for such a detailed report. Several people I know have reported that they went on Sat night and said RW was excellent and they loved every minute. The local papers also said he had the audience in the palm of his hand all night.

I did hear the queues were horrendous and the toilets not good at all. One friend left Sheringham at 5pm and finally got parked at 8.30 and into the event at 8.50 so not long before RW started.

My friend and I are going to have a posh afternoon tea with our refunds.

Thanks again and sorry you didn’t have a good evening.

So…. We set off at5pm. It normally takes us about 20mins to get to Sandringham. It took us 3hours last night. It took longer than anticipated because the blue car park which we were heading for was full so we clashed with the red car park attendees.
Although the route was clearly indicated a lot of local fans thought they could bypass the instructions and caused a bit of aggression.
Anyway there were 4 of us so we passed the time playing I-spy and putting the world to rights.
So… we finally arrived at 20.05pm.
By this time we all needed the loo…. But the loos before we went in had a long queue and it looked as though there were quite a few that were out of commission. We decided to wait till we got inside.
The bag checks and ticket checks went very easily then we were in.
First stop toilets….OMG they were horrendous. We did go to tell the customer service team that they were in a terrible state.
They were extremely nice but said that although they were aware of the problem it really couldn’t be fixed. Totally lovely.
We decided that we would not be availing ourselves of the drink outlets anywhere on site in case we may have needed the loo again.
We propped ourselves up by some railings and awaited the ‘Kings’ arrival.
He started exactly on time.
He should stick to singing. His language between songs was appalling. At one point he spoke to a woman called Linda in the front row. She wanted him to sign an autograph. He told her that he was busy playing to his fans. She could shove her pen up her f…… a….
In between songs he was totally obnoxious.
Both myself and my friends have heard most rude words before but Robbie is a master of filth.
We left after about 6 numbers.
The best bit of the night was that we missed the appalling mess that we anticipated when it finished.
I think that the event organisers were greedy, perhaps they should have increased the basic price and reduced the numbers attending? It wasn’t their fault that RW was a total d…
It was total bedlam and I think this may have been my/our last outside event.
Primrose you missed nothing that was pleasurable.

We went, we survived and will fill you in later. Off to Wells now so will fill in the details later.

I think it's appalling the way the concert organisers restrict what yo can and can't do. Many years ago we The Jam at Hammersmith. Sitting up in the circle some younger people stood up to dance at their seats. The bouncers just threw them out and didn't even give them the chance to sit back down.

Dinahmo Sun 27-Aug-23 19:10:21

Oh for the days of my youth. In the 80s I saw Springsteen at Wembley and the Stones at Roundhay Park in Leeds. Both were disappointing because of the time lag between sound and vision reaching us. Never again.

It was different when I was young. The venues were Hammersnith Odeon, Albert and Festival Halls, Roundhouse, Saville Theatre and Finsbury Park Astoria. It was much easier back then.

Hope there havent been any accidents today

I am sorry you couldn't goPrimrose, I wouldn’t be able to stand all that time either. An extra £150 mean paying three times the cost, I wouldn’t do it on principle and all that time going in and getting out I’d rather have teeth pulled.. Can’t think of anyone I would do that for except my family if they needed me. Hope you got your money back.

Thank you Allsorts. Yes we got a full refund.

Yes, we’ve had heavy rain in north Norfolk and rumbles of thunder. It’s just starting to brighten up again. I feel sorry for people on holiday or who were looking forward to the long weekend. The plants will be happy though (and the weeds🙄).

I’m enjoying the peace too!

Downtoearth. If you know Knights Hill roundabout it was gridlocked at 11 this morning. They open the gates at Sandringham at 12 so I suppose everyone thought they would get there early. We are just a few miles away and yes the heavens opened!

downtoearth Sun 27-Aug-23 16:26:05

GSM Have you got the heavy rain and thunderstorms, the heavens have opend here in Mid Norfolk.
I read on my news feed this morning that an extra two hours was advised because of the traffic.
I dread to think of the congestion on the Hardwick roundabout at Kings Lynn, leading on to the A149,accident black spot at best of times, bikers and Bank holiday traffic use that route also for the coast.
I am home with a cuppa enjoying the peace.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 27-Aug-23 15:13:18

Thank goodness!

Unfortunately Norfolk roads are not built for an huge amount of extra cars and there will be delays and probably mega traffic jams! No motorways around here!

A friend just messaged to say RW was fantastic, a real showman as always. They arrived about 6pm and it took 2.5 hours to get in and over an hour to get out.

It will be very muddy at Sandringham tonight. We are 4 miles away and having a tremendous hail storm which has been going on for 20 minutes!

IClaudius Sun 27-Aug-23 13:29:46

The last open air concert I went to was to see Lulu. It had poured down with rain for days before the event and so the field was a quagmire. There was no chance of sitting anywhere because the mud was so deep and the portaloos were disgusting. Lulu was to be the last performer of the evening but we'd long given up by then.

Open air concerts + British summer weather is not always a good combination!

I know. We went to see Tom Jones once and it poured all night. We took a big fishing umbrella and 2 small folding chairs but those days are gone.

A few years ago we saw Quo outdoors late August. It was the coldest night I can remember. Everybody had coats, hats, boots etc and Francis Rossi said they all had thermals on under their clothes.

The best night was The Proclaimers in July. One of those rare summer nights when it was still hot at 11 pm. That was fixed chairs though in an amphitheatre. Best night ever.

Casdon Sun 27-Aug-23 12:21:03

SuperTinny is right, the Principality Stadium (although always called the Millennium Stadium still in my house) is a brilliant concert venue because it has all the infrastructure with massive TV screens, toilets, seating etc inbuilt, and by no means least, it has a retractable roof so if it rains you stay dry, a big plus in Wales!

We went to an open air concert recently where seats were already set out. It bucketed down all evening and when people sought shelter under the arches surrounding the square they were told to take their seats or leave. Sometimes you just can’t win! grin

They are in breach of the Equality Act. You are not allowed to have a rule or regulation which makes it more difficult for a disabled person to comply. I would be posting something on farcebook and some of the other sites and asking them how they plan to make "reasonable adjustment".

People who can't stand for hours are not necessarily registered as disabled; it's just that we're getting older!

Most of these groups/singers would appeal to older people anyway and I don't understand why they won't allow chairs in an open-air venue.
We went to a big open-air concert in Australia and there were chairs already in place.

PamelaJ1 Sun 27-Aug-23 10:56:13

We’re planning to arrive at about 7 tonight just when the rain stops.🤞

Primrose53 Sat 26-Aug-23 20:37:14

I am consoling myself tonight by watching all the Robbie stuff I recorded. There was a special RW night a couple of months ago.

PamelaJ1 Sat 26-Aug-23 18:30:57

I may be wrong about the umbrellas!
