Gender reveal parties

What do my fellow grans think of these parties? also the baby showers prior to baby's arrival? Is this another import from our cousins over the 'pond'? I never wanted to know the gender of either of my children but I can see how maybe it's handy to know what baby clothes to buy whether boy or girl. I must be getting old I just don't 'get it' really

These have been on the go for several years now and probably imported yes.
Never had the choice when DC were born and I don't know if I would have wanted to although handy for gifts I suppose.
I think we had a baby shower but could be wrong! It's nice to be given practical gifts before baby is born but then you end up giving another gift when the birth happens. I do like buying gifts though and since becoming a granny my shopping habits have changed. Always check out the children's aisle first and look for bargains. Though DGS1 is now 9 and has his own opinions on clothes now.

It is an exciting time for new parents and they want to share everything with friends and family, It doesn’t have an effect on anyone else so I don't see a problem with it.

When I had mine you didn’t find out the gender, If it was now I would want to know but would not have a gender reveal party just because its not my sort of thing.

There was a thread about this recently -

I don’t mind the baby showers as they are a chance to get together with rellies you don’t normally see but ‘gender reveal?’ No way. Ridiculous.
