Ahh love her / disgusted by her - is she your Marmite? Saw the interview on ThisMorning...she's made the front cover on Vogue...at 82
She can be very hilarious but loves her fart talk -was most interested in her mint front botty therapy....what do other GNs think?

LovelyLady Thu 14-Sept-23 12:42:36

No no no. She makes me sad and I wish she’d used her talent more appropriately rather than trying to crudely shock. Thank goodness she’s having therapy.

I love her! Shes honest and funny and her political views aline with mine

Not for me...

Outrageous and over sexualised behaviour is often found in people who have been exposed to sexual exploitation at a young age.

I share the feelings of many - I think she is a very good actress. I wish I’d seen her one-woman show of women in Dickens. Apparently, from the West End it went to several places round the country and elsewhere, but I wasn’t aware of it until quite recently. I enjoyed the Australian tour, where she came over - to me at least - as very clever, astute, genuine and capable, but there were times, as always, when she is just out to shock.
I read her book too - couldn’t put it down and found reading about her past fascinating - BUT - in places, unnecessarily and excessively rude. (I think she’s written a second book, due out any time now).
I read only a day or two ago that she is quite ill, and readily admits that it is down to her bad eating habits. I wish her well.
To sum up, I like marmite - but only a little at a time. I like Miriam in the same way.

I used to really like her until I read her autobiography. In it she names other actors that she doesn't like and goes on and on about all the men she has 'serviced'. That was creepy as well as her contact reference to being Jewish, her farting etc
She is so insensitive and doesn't care who she insults and hurts just as long as she gets to be the main event.
I feel very sorry for her partner . She is like a spoiled 4 year old kid needing content attention.

Miriam is a complicated person. I wasn't surprised to read in her autobiography that she has had counselling. I enjoyed parts of her book, particularly her description of her relationship with Judaism - very similar to my inlaws in that she sees it in relationship to her heritage and culture and not in any religious sense. She writes wisely about Israel too. However the book was spoilt for me by her obsession with sex (no details spared whether with a man or woman). I wasn't shocked by this but very bored with the repetition of such encounters throughout the book. That said, I find her very funny (eg on Graham Norton show) and I enjoyed her camper van trip in the US with Alan Cummings.

She's OK in small doses.

I'm struggling to read her book. All I can say is, she was a slut in her youth, not sure how she is now.

Kugala Thu 14-Sept-23 12:08:37

I don’t like her. She’s very talented but (like so many other actors) I’m not interested in hearing her political views or foul mouth.

Glambert Thu 14-Sept-23 12:08:28

They knew what they were getting when they invited her on the programme. Hollly can pretend to be shocked but I'm sure she did exactly what they wanted.

My daughter met her back in May when she went to her home to give her a get well card after she'd had a heart stent op.
She often sits at her front door and she was there when my daughter visited and she invited her and her family up the steps for a chat.
She was charming, kind and welcoming and admired my grandson's red hair.
Forget the swear words and risque stories, under all that is a genuinely kind and decent person.
Surely that's what matters. If you dont like her, don't follow what she does, don't read stuff she features in or switch off when shes on TV.

Beau1958 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:56:31

I find her intriguing. She says it as it is and I admire her for that and not caring about what people think, I wouldn’t dare say most of the things she says but i think them. Loved her on the trips to Scotland with Alan Cumming she had so much empathy towards his troubled upbringing. I really like her.

A hideous creature, can't stand her.

Eloethan Thu 14-Sept-23 11:54:32

Luckygirl What a fantastic review - so interesting and insightful. Is writing your profession?

As for Miriam M, I do like her very much, although sometimes her outrageousness irritates me. For me, her humanity balances out all those irritants.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Sept-23 11:45:28

I wouldn’t use the word ‘lady’.

mbody Thu 14-Sept-23 11:44:34

Revolting old lady

Bea65 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:10:00

Yes I do like her voice and she can be entertaining but I too, would be intimidated by her in a 1-1 situation or conversation- GrannyGravy I didn’t mention her weight/shape re Vogue photos..they liked her face😀

Harris27 Thu 14-Sept-23 11:03:39

Not my cup of tea. Can’t stand her. Marigold hotel thing put me off.

suzikyoo Thu 14-Sept-23 10:56:42

To use a good ole Aussie phrase: 'rude, crude and unattractive' !

annodomini Thu 14-Sept-23 10:18:36

I can't stand Marmite - much prefer Vegemite. However, I am ambivalent about Miriam Margolyes, On the one hand, she is a fine actor in a variety of parts. On the other hand, I wonder if she, at 82, is trying to get away with being the girl she always has been, but didn't exactly go public with it, until recently. Could I get away with it? We're almost the same age. Would I want to have a public persona at which audiences laugh but secretly feel slightly ashamed of laughing. Think about it. If a much younger woman came out with a string of expletives and references to bodily functions and excretions, would it be regarded as funny or embarrassing? I know she talks a lot of sense and I'm with her politically, but, I can't really like her as she presents herself.

Callistemon21 Thu 14-Sept-23 09:52:49

I like listening to her voice and perfect enunciation until she starts talking rubbish.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Sept-23 09:49:10

Oreo, I think Amber’s view might be different because she is attracted to women, as is MM.

dogsmother Thu 14-Sept-23 09:42:42

She speaks as she sees. No room for niceties. Only problem she has is she doesn’t really care about who cares. That makes me laugh.

Oreo Thu 14-Sept-23 09:10:46

AmberSpyglass

I adore her. Frankly, I have a bit of a crush. Once you overlook the bodily functions stuff - and honestly that just gets overquoted, I think - she’s brilliantly insightful and hilariously funny. And although she’s not typically beautiful, I think she’s absolutely gorgeous.

This is a joke right?
Shudder.

Oreo Thu 14-Sept-23 09:07:59

MrsThatcher

An appalling foul mouthed old bag!

😂
Straight to the point
