Plastic (especially single-use), DDT, petrol engines - and putting lead in petrol, factory farming, dynamite, air conditioning - and yes, Claretjan, bras.
Toomany people not thinking through the implications of the things they would do without.
Often things without which our lives as a whole would be worse in every way from health, to food, to opportunities and all the wonders of modern medical science.

I couldn’t agree more. Someone put up oil drills and yet they are happy to use a product to post on here that uses some of the most toxic elements known to man. Not a lot of thinking going on there.

Of course, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrible events but historians have argued persuasively that in forcing the Japanese surrender, as many as 32 million lives were saved.
That leap in atomic science has given us many positive things including cancer treatments and medical diagnostics e.g. PET scans and advances in solar science and space exploration e.g the Voyager programme.
Nuclear power is a divisive issue as is nuclear armament but much of the world’s energy is produced this way. Nuclear technology substantially reduce the costs of oil exploration and drilling. Without it we’d be paying even more to run our cars and homes.
A better idea for this thread is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of inventions and scientific breakthroughs.

No need to say more agree withe the two posts above.
I know plastic has saved lives in medical procedures but much of the plastic in our lives is totally unnecessary, I’ve chucked away about 4 single use plastic wrappers today and I do make an effort to minimise plastic I buy. Do we really need individually wrapped cucumbers? Those plastic containers with ready chopped melon , strawberries used to come in paper baskets etc I know it maybe saves some food waste, but we have to balance that out with the environmental impact.
I am very allergic to real Christmas trees so artificial trees are all l can have. They are realistic looking and can last for years as they are reused, making them much "greener" than real Christmas trees in many ways, as most are discarded after two or three weeks.
Artificial food additives and chemical laden cleaning products. E Scooters. Cigarettes and vapes Guns and bombs. Space rockets....the money would've been better spent on earth.
Earth’s resources are depleted and climate change is going to have catastrophic geo-physical and geo-political repercussions in our lifetimes and certainly in the lifetimes of our children, grandchildren and beyond. If man is going to survive he has to find another planet to survive on. In Dara OBriain’s recent two-part series on Channel 5 Wonders of the Moon he explains what work is being done to explore the possibilities.
