Temu: Has anyone bought from them?

I have now bought a lot of things from temu since posting my original message, and have found the quality to be very good. I'm not so keen on ordering clothes, as I have had to return 2 dresses to date, having got the size wrong. I've learnt it's best to go by measurements rather than the size, but it's still a bit of a gamble and a real pain to have to return items, although to be fair, temu are very organised and keep you informed at every stage. Still waiting for my refund, though. It takes 5- 14 days or more.

Have used for a handbag and toys. Both very good, I'm happy. Down side is the time it takes to arrive and I think clothes sizing - I wouldn't want to have to return to them.

Seems this is the data they are supposed to be selling

As far as I know you can pay by Paypal, so they won’t get your bank details. I’m not sure exactly what ‘data’ they are meant to be selling.

I’m not defending Temu, but, people don’t think twice about ordering from EBay or Amazon. 99% of the goods come from the same source.
I wanted a walking foot. Temu were £2 cheaper than either of the above.

I refuse to buy anything from Temu as they won’t even allow me to browse unless I download the app . Which I refuse to do . I don’t care how cheap they are , I’m not being blackmailed.

They are rock bottom prices for a reason - they sell off everyone’s data.

I bought some board games for my DGC they other day. It was a UK company based in Norfolk. and the product was very well made. I assumed it was made in the UK. When I looked at the boxes in more detail it said 'Made in China' on all of them. It was Orchard Toys
I just looked at the link you provided. While they don't say the toys are made in the UK, they are very keen to promote their "British roots" and say all their toys are designed in Wymondham in Norfolk. These companies never seem to feel the need to say the products are manufactured in China. Of course huge amounts of products are now manufactured in China from the lowest priced to the highest priced. I haven't shopped on Temu, a relative has and got a lovely cardigan for an absolute pittance, but I think it's always taking a chance as to the quality.

Well I ve only bought one item from Temu it looked so lovey I couldn’t resist It was awful and gone straight in the bin terrible material wouldn’t be seen out in it I haven’t even kept it for dusters !!!

I have just seen some lovely potential Christmas presents on Temu but am worried about the quality and reliability.

If I could find these items in the UK I would by them in the UK. Though buying from a UK company doesn't necessarily mean there products made in the UK.

You're right, Elegran, we do need to be aware of these things. I would much prefer to buy British but so many of the shops closed down in our area, probably due to high rates, and there are barely any shops to buy from. The other problem I have with British firms is their poor customer care. I bought a brand new hoover from a leading electrical company in the high street and when I arrived home, it was faulty. When I tried to return for a replacement, they refused, saying they would repair it instead. Legally, that would have made it second hand. My husband had to really assert himself in order to get a replacement. We never shopped there again. I know that if I buy a product from Amazon, and it's faulty, they will exchange, usually without a quibble.

You will now get marketing ads from Temu at very frequent intervals. They are aiming to overtake Amazon in online sales. most of the items on sale are manufactured in China and sold by Chinese firms based in China, so nothing at all of the money you send them will be received, spent, or taxed in the UK.

If you help them to get a monopoly, don't complain when you find that British firms making or selling the same things go out of business and Britain slips down the international league and becomes a third-world dump.

It’s not just Temu that are being investigated ( good luck with that 🤔)
It’s not just Temu, Shien and Nike. Temu is a platform company whereas Nike have used slave Labour for years.
Interesting that the US hasn’t investigated them before.

I wasn't aware that they were being investigated. I've only just become acquainted with their company. It would be interesting to know what the investigation reveals.

A friend of mine has bought lots of things from Temu, so I decided to try it. I bought 2 T-shirts for my granddaughters. The fabric was cotton, of a decent quality, and washed well. The sizes were appropriate for their ages.
