good news if you use your fish and chip shops

Any wrapping used in a Fish and Chip shop is unable to be recycled.

Paper, cardboard or polystyrene all have to be put into the rubbish, we can’t put used cardboard or paper on the compost as it attracts rats, it’s always covered in grease no matter how quickly we get it home and unwrap it ( we seldom go to the fish and chip shop anyway though)

Foil cartons like they use in Indian/Chinese takeaway food is better, the foil can be washed and recycled leaving only the lids to go into the rubbish, maybe they could be persuaded to use these too?

But as polystyrene lasts for ever it’s a good move to totally ban it, wherever it’s used.

Our chippy only uses paper or card wrappings and they all go on the compost heap. We do not have a rat problem with food wrappers on the compost heap as it is probably only once every three month or so that we put chip shopp wrappings on it.

New rules are coming into place about this, the head of the fish fryers association was interviewed on the Today programme this morning.
Not every fish and chop shop belong to the fish fryers association ... but it’s a start.
