Good to hear the items will come in a cardboard box instead.

I was beginning to wonder how they would know whose was whose without packaging.

When I went to pay this summer, for some underwear and there were no bags offered, I asked for one of the plastic bags I saw, which had been used to transport the goods from the factory to the shop, that was lying in a pile behind the assistant. She was astonished but gave one to me.

Actually when I lived in UK I did pick up packs of knickers en route to the food hall and paid for everything together. I keep a waterproof fold up bag with me all the time now, so useful.

We don’t get bags now and haven’t for some time. Just take your own.

An update on marks &Spencer no bags. I collected my order. Still arriving in the green plastic bags but I asked the assistant what will happen in the future. She said your orders will come in a cardboard box , phew , I had visions of walking around the shop with a 6 pack of full briefs , double gusset on view for everyone to see , 🤣🤣🤣🤣

What happens if you go shopping in store carrying a basket?
All kinds of clothes might go in the basket, do some people buy a jumper they dont really want so that they can cover up the underwear in the basket?
What if 😲 a man serves you?

No problem with it at all, wouldn’t bother me to carry clothing, including underwear through the store. Do some people screen their washing lines?

I always have 4 roll away into a tiny bag shopping bags in my handbag, one is devoted only to clothing, so clothes do not get damaged and soiled.

Personally, this isn't a problem and I couldn't care less wheather I am seen wandering through a shop clutching new underwear I ambuying/bought, for everyone to see. How does it differ from putting underwear in your shopping trolley at Tesco and putting it on the belt with all your other shopping while you wait for it to be scanned?

I went along as usual with a bag ready to carry the teddy fleece hooded blanket I'd ordered and was surprised when it was handed to me in a sealed plastic bag. It is literally feather-light and possibly difficult to cram into a shopping bag. I'm almost looking forward to those chilly nights in front of the TV!

Paper bags disintegrate if they get caught in the rain. Not at all practical for some.
I have clear memories of seeing broken jars of jam etc tumbling from paper carriers on the bus when I was little. Paper bags are not a new invention😐

Though it has to be said that many more food items were delivered to your home and it was quite “normal”. Apart from milk there was a veg van, a pop van, even I recall a laundry van. And a bread van. This in an area with butcher/baker/candlestick maker virtually on the doorstep! Good times🙂 lots of cardboard boxes in use as well.

I collected an M&S order the other day and the email did say to bring your own bag. TBH I thought it great that they’re cutting down on plastic - it was no big deal to take my own bag. And I wouldn’t have cared tuppence if it was underwear they were handing over - not even if it was XL granny knickers.
Which it wasn’t.

I’m really surprised that anyone here would object. I have a very prudish elderly aunt who would have a pink fit if any MAN 😱saw her receiving unwrapped knickers (I’m not exaggerating here) but she’s 90 and has always had Funny Ideas anyway,

It’s something we all need to get used to, and I always have a couple of canvas bags folded up in my handbag. Though the other day I bought quite a lot and filled them both at M& S Food, with more to pack. They gave me a sturdy plastic one, which I assumed I paid for.
The rare plastic bags I get these days do get reused, or given to one of our local market traders who are always glad of them.

I'm so much in the habit of carrying a couple of little folding up bags in my handbag now that this is never a problem.
Just remember to put them back in your handbag after use.
It's so easy.

Surely everyone carries reusable bags with them, if you are picking up food especially.

Broccoli, eggs, two ready meals and six pairs of knickers - it's not something I've ever ordered together.

When you do a click and collect order with M&S the clothes will only be unwrapped if the store you're collecting from had them in stock. Any item in your order delivered to the store from the warehouse will be in a sealed bag. You can bag up any item not wrapped at the counter where you collect it before going through the rest of the shop.

The poster said she was collecting from the Food Hall, not that she was buying food. If she was, I would imagine she would have bags for the food with her.

The email/text does not say the clothes will not be wrapped.

Talk of making a mountain out of a molehill! Some people just enjoy complaining

M&S not giving me a bag would not bother me , often have one with me anyway.

I think it’s a bloody cheek tbh on their part.Any clothes that you buy should be put into a bag, who wants to carry six pairs of new knickers if you go without your own bag?Why can’t they make compostable bags to give shoppers? It suits them that’s why, it’s cheaper not to provide free bags.

I agree with Oreo. Lots of shops are providing paper bags now, so why can’t M+S do the same? It’s one thing to take along your shopping bags for the groceries, but quite another to be expected to carry new clothing through the food hall, especially underwear.

I agree with the poster; it is unacceptable. Paper bags are perfectly acceptable, and one does not want to mix brand new clothing with, say, vegetables in your shopping bags.

I remember 30 years ago shops insisted you have the goods in a bag and I always refused! So I've been taking my own bags ever since and I can't see what the problem is. Just take your own bags.

Fine Chestnut if you take a nice clean bag,I keep some for food shopping and some for meat.
I learned my lesson many years ago when DH turned up at the maternity hospital with my clean nighties and underwear in a bag full of soil.It was the bag I used for the veg shopping much to the amusement of some of the nurses who knew us.

If this is a "click and collect" then your item will be wrapped - but not in a bag.

I have had this text too but so far anything I have collected has been in a bag. Shops stopped supplying goods in free bags years ago so what's the problem? Do people still go shopping and forget to take their own bags? If you do then just buy one at the till.

If this is a click snd collect clothes order I seem to remember (from very recently) It does NOT say it won’t be wrapped, just that they don't supply "bags". This is because they would have to charge for them.

I have collected a few things recently and they have all been in wrapping with handles. As far as I am concerned their system is second to none.

If you are lucky enough to have a local store, click and collect is free. Their turnaround on refunds us the fastest I know. Although you can do the whole process of collect and return yourself, by instore machine, there has a.ways been help if you need it.

Some people do seem to look for problems, but take a deep breath and I think you will find all is fine.

Not picking up from the shop but I had a home delivery yesterday. Not only have they raised the amount you have to spend for free delivery they had reused the bags from another customer who hadn't opened them carefully the garment had been all creased and luckily didn't fit so I stuffed them back through the hole in the inner bag and plastered the outside one up with sellotape.I wouldn't like to be the third to receive it.
DH did our food shopping , bought a bag for life it is made from strong paper and doesn't fold up like plastic ones did.
They need to watch what they are doing or their sales will fall again.
A friend went to our nearest clothes store and wanted to ask about a different size, she could not find an assistant anywhere and the tills even for clothes were self-service, knowing how people abuse these tills in food shops you can imagine how the clothes ones will be abused a packet of pants dialled a blouse stuffed in own bag and carried out of the shop.
